Hi all, I'm Edrei. I'm 26 years old and I'm from KL for most of my life, but currently in Australia at the moment working as a medical scientist.

I've been wanting to join NaNoWriMo ever since I've heard of it a few years ago, but I've never had the opportunity to do so because I've always had exams or massive deadlines in November. This year however, I "should" be home free and this would be my first time joining NaNoWriMo.

I'll be writing a novel about tragic loss, tragic loss, the ensuing insanity and the eventual healing which comes from an unexpected source. It's going to have a science fiction element to it and I'll be drawing heavily on my personal experiences. Although, being a first time novel writer, I'm not exactly sure I know how to put it all down on a page, but I guess, there is only one way to find out.

That being said, now how about yourselves?

Odd that the first two Malaysians posting in here are the ones out of the country!

I'm Jha, currently in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. This will be my seventh NaNo, and I expect a seventh win (yes, hate me, I don't care!). I'm also the ML for Halifax. I'm originally from Subang Jaya (SS15 represent, ya'll!). I'm currently jobless (lost my job last Monday, go figure!) and am applying to grad school. Hopefully October won't be crammed with too much since I am also writing for tor.com's Steampunk Month.

This year I have no idea what I'm writing. I was going to write something set during the Opium Wars in Canton, and then I thought, too much research (I had to do other research for an essay on steampunk at the time), and so I moved on to a plot set in Victorian London about a lady detectivess hired by the Queen to investigate the theft of the Crown Jewels. Now I just want to write a whimsical story about deathrays and DOOMsday devices and listen to a lot of Awie and other such emo Malay rock musicians from the 80's while I'm at it. We'll see.

Hello Edrei and everyone else.

I'm 15 years old - 16 this year, and have not move out of Subang. Next year is my SPM, and I'll have to miss NaNo 2010 then.

My usual habit of roaming about the Internet without a sense of direction got me here recently. So, here am I, writing my first Science Fiction that survived the plot. This novel is the main reason I'm out of writer's block few months ago. For once, I did not choose fantasy and a smart character.

@Jha'Meia: Hey, there is nothing wrong with death rays and doomsday weapons played to the tune of 80's Malay rock.

I somehow picture that to be smeared in all sorts of cheesy awesomeness. :)

ZOMG THERE ARE PEOPLE ALREADY. Welcome one and all to NaNoWriMo 2009, Malaysian chapter! Go to our blog at nanomy,blogspot.com.

Err, Hi. I'm Erna, your easily excitable ML. And this is my sixth year as Malaysia's municipal liaison.

So you need an agony aunt/taskmaster/moan mommy, I am here.

Just don't spend too much time foruming instead of noveling!

In real life, I'm a news editor at a rather well known alternative news site.

My novel will be slightly political in nature, though am thinking it might work better as a screenplay than a novel. But we'll see how it goes!

Hi,

I'm Naoko, returning for a fifth year and hoping for a 3rd straight win in a row. Considering that this is supposed to be book 3 of a trilogy I've got high hopes that it'll be finally done this year.

I'm a copywriter by trade and a fiction writer by passion. :D Am from the state of Selangor and a otaku. :D Nice to meet you all!

Hi, everyone. It's always great to see some familar faces and wonderful to meet some new ones too. Looking forward to another fun month ahead with you at the helm, Erna. :D

Dragoninabottle over here. I'll answer to either Dragon, DB or Cindy. Take your pick. I think this should be my fourth or fifth year NaNo-ing. Missed last year's fun because I was away attending a writing workshop.

Hope everyone's ready because I know I am. :D

Hello. I'm Willian, 20 years old. I'm from Klang but currently studying for my degree in chemistry in UKM. Joining NaNoWriMo during second year when studies in a brisk of falling grades is risky, but I know how to handle this, despite this is the first time joining NaNoWriMo.

Actually I've been writing web fiction on two sites: http://murazrai.xanga.com for Chaos Fighters and http://cyber-murazrai.xanga.com for Chaos Fighters: Cyber Assault, which the updates will not be interrupted by joining of NaNoWriMo, so I need to complete the drafts up to December so I can completely focus on completing 50,000 words.

I think I'll write something sort of like Mega Man Star Force (the anime and the DS games) + Star Ocean, which brings the novel into science fantasy genre. But the rest of the plot is yet to be planned. I'll post it up on a new site when I start writing. Hopefully I can become a winner.

Hello everyone! My name is Evangeline. I'm from Melaka. I'm 15 years old. I can quite safely bet I'm one of the youngest here. :p This is my first time doing NaNoWriMo and with my busy schedule, I'm not too sure if I can get 50k words. Anyway, no harm in giving this a try. :) Feel free to drop me a NaNoMail. So long!

Huzaah! Wait, that's not quite it- Oh, hi there! I go by Syetha. I'm currently 16 turning 17. I joined NaNoWriMo last year, and it has been an annual obsession of mine. Exams are approaching, but I'm more fervent about writing than studying for Physics... imagine that. I mainly write in FP and FF, as well for the school's column and magazine- that pretty much sums up my writing experience.

My novel info can be found at my profile. Sad to say, even though I love the excerpt and the summary, it s a bigga bunch of traditional stuff and killing and murder and romance. A messy blend of Eastern and Western culture, my novel is sure going to be a headache to write. Not to mention it's of the YA and historical genre- it's pretty ridiculous to venture out of fantasy, romance and fanfiction, but then again, I'm excited!

Good luck, everybody~

Hello all. First time WriMo participant.

Lived most of my life in Kuala Lumpur, but am currently located in Sydney, AU. Thought I'd fly the flag for the home country by making this my default region.

Participation in WriMo is more of a whim and fancy; will be finishing a 20,000 worded thesis (non fiction, of course) on October 30 and jumping straight into writing a 50,000 fictional piece for WriMo on November 1 - you'd think I would have had enough of writing this year ;)

My project is something in the hard sci-fi, dystopian-esque genre.

Nice to be part of this!

Returning WriMo. Participated 7 previous years - 2002 to 2008 - and won 5 of them - 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Not sure if I'll be able to repeat my "success" this year. Will be a rebel and writing creative non-fiction. For me this year, the "No" in NaNoWriMo stands for "Non-fiction".

Hello alll!!

My name is Nadeera, and I'm sixteen. And I like in KL! And I want to Las Vegas, Nevada because I think my calling is telling me to write a novel over there so I can every visualization aspect of my book right. But unfortunately, that won't happen until I'm 21. I must emphasize on the: 'unfortunately' part. Anyhow, I've returned for another year of insane writing. My first time was last year, and yes, I didn't succeed. But I somewhat plan to this year. For now, I have no idea what I'm going to write. I have two big ideas for a novel, one is for a character named Damien Fudd whom has somewhat decided to live in my brain for an eternity or two. I 'discovered' him from a Harry Potter roleplaying site which I simply adore to bits and pieces. It's insane how an RP site can make such a 'splash' in my life. I'm obsessed. Oh, and even though the character is from a HP ( yes, I'm a HP dork ) site, he's just oh so 'real' in my head now, I can definitely transport him into real life settings. But like I said, won't happen until I get my bum in Nevada so I can get every detail right.

My other idea is this.. circus-themed thing. It's like the Ringling Brother's kind of circus, the ones with the elephants and the clowns and the tightrope and all. Old school circus, just, based in the 21st Century. And once again, I can't write it because I haven't been to a circus before and I can't exactly get every detail right, which means, I have decided to write a novel - this year - which settings is local (:

I think for this year I'm going to write a novel about the typical 21st Century Malaysian teenagers life. Well, the KL kids, that is. If Brett Easton Ellis wrote Less Than Zero that pretty much exposes the lives of a typical kid in L.A., then there's definitely no harm in exposing a typical teenagers life in KL that should just sum up one thing: Times have changed, things have changed, and can the current amount of damage be healed?

Well, I don't know! But we'll see! (:

Wait, I just went wayyy off topic there, lol. Sorry. Anyways, HELLO ALL! (: And good luck for this year!

*Points upwards* Hello Nadeera! :D (No, I'm not your stalker. Check your MSN contacts.)

Sorry for the off topic -- I'm Pei Yun, and this year, my second time Nano-ing I join the ranks of Malaysians abroad! Okay, so it's not very far, only Singapore. I'm 15 too!

Dirt on the creative (huh?) side of me -- tried Nano last year and epic-failed 12700 words into it. (Ahem, at least that's more than 20%. Ignore my self-indulgence.) Last year was some adventure-Alex Rider-styled drivel; hopefully this year it'll go further with some semblance of direction. Or not.

I can't tell you what I'm writing about because... I haven't thought of it yet. Oh yes, I just came back on the site today and have splurged on a diarrhea of posts. But off the top of my head, I promise I shall do my best to include, among other, (a) a copy of Neil Gaiman somewhere and (b) any random object the poster after me elects! (Bring it on...)

CAN'T WAIT FOR NOVEMBER! Let's hammer out those words!

Hello!

I'm Mia and this is my first official Nanowrimo. I've heard of it and have stalked the forums and LJ comms on it for years but I never had time(or lack the self esteem) to join in because I seem to always have exams in November. Thankfully, my exams will end early november this year. Horrah!

I might write in Malay just for fun but the thing is, I haven't written anything over 200 words in Malay since SPM 2004. My boyfriend(and writing inspiration, Shahriman Latif) did challenge me to write some malay prose for my blog but that was it. It seems like a fun idea, so what the heck right? I can always switch to English midway.

I'm not going to do a plot but I do have a main character, someone that I created a long time ago. It will be an urban setting but not too cosmopolitan. Very Klang Valley and possibly not so innocent. The character will be about a rather liberal Malay female character conformed to her cultures and her surroundings. I guess this will be a moral exposure piece and a personal piece but hopefully, I'm not going to create anything cheesy or political. Da-ha!

Seriously though, my muse is so unpredictable. I might change my characters and the whole storyline in a matter of minutes. Hence, the lack of plot for now. I'm just going to have fun and write. Maybe a touch of Fantasy might be good, huh? For all I know, I might end up writing about alien rabbits taking over the world using Subang Airport and my character might become Rojakman. Saving the world, one kuah kacang at the time. Depends on how many Hersheys I will eat next month.

But hopefully, that won't happen.

Can't wait for November! :)

Aloha. I'm Amirul, in the last year you're allowed to be called a -teen, and this will be the first time I'll have picked up the NaNoWriMo flag in the last four years. In 2005 I produced 51,000 words of a novel I called "The Conspiracy of B", which I'd much rather forget, much like everything I did and said when I was fifteen, thank you very much.

My day job casts me as a writer for an English-language news/lifestyle magazine where I get to write for money and wear a hat (for free).

Hey everyone! Seeing some familiar names from last year, which is great!

I moved to a diploma course, and I'm happier. Was thinking of skipping Nano, but just thinking about it felt sacrilegious, so here I am again. Call me hooked.

And wow, Tor.com is awesome. ABR, great to meet a hat fan. I have a pretty good one. It's a bright orange, soft, reaches my ears...and, wait for it...is cat-based in design XD

Salam sejahtera semua. I'm Azimah and I attended last year's Nano launch. I was preparing for my wedding in November at that time, so you can imagine it was a pre-tty crazy month for me.

Now I'm expecting my first baby girl (yep, the doctor confirmed it) due this December, so my novel's gonna come out before she does =) so if she grows up interested in writing, blame it on Nano, dammit *grins*

Hello everyone!

juzblue here, (attended last year's kickoff!) and this year I'll join the ranks of those not in Malaysia. Just started my uni life in Singapore in August, so I'll be writing from there.

Gosh, I have no idea what to write about. At all. Joining NaNo is an instinct now (started in 2004), and I seriously hope something will pop out of thin air. :P

Anyway, I'll miss you guys! Will still pop in here, of course, you don't get rid of me that easily. :)

Hey, hey!! blueberry_jam90 here~!

Sorry for my tardiness in rejoining the forums. I... I kinda forgot about it. Anyways, I'm a girl aged 19 and from PJ (I think I am... my current residence is hard to describe since it's in between Subang and KJ yet still in PJ).
I should skip Nano this year since I know I probably won't be able to reach the 50k mark but I thought I'd just give it a shot. Who knows, maybe this year is my lucky year!! Oh and this is my third year participating!

Plot...
Hm... I don't have one... yet. But I have my characters roughly fleshed out. And they are ordering me to think up a plot already or else they'll abuse me (yeah, my characters abuse me). Well, all I know for now that the genre is gonna be fantasy, again. Though it's ok since none of you read my crappy works before. =)

Neways, nice to meet you and I'm glad that Nanowrimo's back!!!!

Hey everyone!!

I'm Weng Yee, 18 years this year and living in PJ.

I've always loved reading and writing but it was only this year that a friend of mine told me about NaNoWriMo. Most of what I write is pretty short so I'm taking up the challenge this year to do a full blown novel. I definitely expect lots of sleepless nights and cups of coffee seeing as I'll have to juggle my novel along with studying for my AS finals(help!). But I do intend to have fun =).

Don't really have a fixed plot in mine as I only plan to think of a beginning and an end. Everything in between I leave to my characters to do the writing.

Hopefully they won't decide to abandon me halfway with writer's block.

Hey, I'm Andrea and I live in KL like most of you here.

I'm 15 this year (just finished PMR! :D) & this is my first NaNoWriMo. I first heard about this event last year, but it was already mid-November so it was a little too late to join in the fun by then. So here I am this year! A couple friends of mine might be joining too, since we have plenty of holiday time at the moment.

I'll be writing a mixed novel of sorts. Not really sci-fi but it plays a small part in the concept, a little of romance written in, but it's mostly about how a girl deals with an oppressive government and the novel explores how people fare under the iron fist ruling of such violent authority.

Not as political as it sounds. I'm a teenager, after all. Aren't people my age supposed to write chick lit or something that has sappy and cheesy romance in it? Well...I never did believe in that sort of stuff. Very nauseating.

Anyway, I'm hoping to escape the clutches of writer's block because well, it's not a very pretty sight watching me down cup after cup of coffee in my attempts to stimulate the writer side of me. I'll probably be spending November holed up in a dark, air-conditioned room, hunched over my laptop. It sounds so emo and anti-social but it's probably the only way for me to commit myself to writing 50,000 words in 30 days. :)

Best of luck to all Malaysian NaNoWriMo participants! Don't let writer's block wear you down!

Greetings to all~!

I have been participating for the past 3 years, but somehow never managed to get past 50k once!
Maybe because I can be easily distracted, or maybe student life is too demanding to let me concentrate... but enough is enough. For once I want to go for that golden ring beside the username in full-throttle (quantity over quality, obviously).
This year I will be relying on support from you guys - and gals - to keep it up till 30th.

To newcomers, welcome to the marathon. To others, all the best and see you at the end of the line (most likely with red eyes and overdosed with caffeine).

If only I can ask for one month leave from work...

The "golden ring" besides the username is a donor's halo that you can get by donating some money to the NaNoWriMo cause. The reward for completing 50,000 words is a full green bar for your word count, which turns to a purple bar after your word count is verified.
