Hey, anybody around the Union County area want to organize a weekend write-in? Or several?

I'm in. Did you have any place in mind? Saturday morning or Sunday night would work best for me. What about you?

I like the Barnes and Noble on 22 - it has a cafe, but if you know of any place, I'm good. :)

Friday night, Saturday any time, Sunday afternoon. We only need more people....maybe if we started a Union County Facebook Group for nano?

Ooooo...I could easily attend this on a Friday night. I usually take 78 home from work but I also take 22 often (especially if I need to shop).

Barnes and Noble works for me, too. I'm guessing we're thinking early Friday night, like 6-6:30 (if you're heading over after work, Katie?)

I'll cross-post to Northeast, see if anyone there is interested.

Sounds good to me. I may be slightly late (pushing towards 7pm...don't wait up for me though) because I sometimes get out of work at 6 and there may be traffic....but usually my co-worker is pretty good at getting in at around 5:30 to take over. 6-6:30 works pretty well.

I can put it on the calendar too if you like.

Okay, so we've got A Friday in November 6-7ish, until...when do you want to go to?
They close at 11 all days.

Here's the link for the store on the B&N website: http://store-locator.barnesandnoble.com/store/1884
Good news: According to their website, they have no Friday Night Events planned for the month of November!!

Also, should we contact them about a group of us meeting? Who should do that? I can, if you want, as long as I'm told what to say.

I'm not going to lie but...I'm hesitant.

I don't think it's THAT important. I've been to B&N write-ins and I've arranged B&N events (we've had a Kickoff and TGIO at B&N in the past). If there's 4 or 5 of us camping in the cafe, it's not that big a deal. If we get into the teens, then I'd consider contacting them about it. But for the way things are going on right now, I think it would make things too complicated than it needs to be. This may work better as an impromptu gathering instead of when they are expecting to see us, someone being in charge, etc.

I'm almost positive Jamie and Pat don't call the Menlo B&N to "schedule" their write-ins. And I've heard SOME (not a lot and not in NJ but SOME) horror stories of people being told they weren't welcome to camp and write when they tried to arrange something with the store. If there's only a small group of us, it'd probably be easier for us all to go under the radar. If the group is too small, they might not care enough to make it an event.

I'm only saying this in order to avoid unnecessary work and possible grief. If you still really want to give it a try, I'll help you out.

I can probably stay and write until 11 but how does 6:30 - 10:30 sound for the sake of putting something on the calendar?

Okay, I just haven't done/been to a write-in before, so I don't know anything about organizing it, sorry! I'm fine with remaining under the radar; it was just to throw the idea out there.

6:30-10:30 sounds great with me --- which Friday?

As of now I'm good for any (or all) Fridays.

I can actually travel this year so I'd like to try and hit up as many areas as I can. :)

I second keeping it as a standing event. Then if someone's free, they know we'll be there.

And I wouldn't get formal about approaching B&N. This is my 3rd year doing NaNo, and I've only encountered one other Union County WriMo. I don't see this turning into a big event. If there are only a couple of us, and we buy something at the cafe, they probably won't care.

How happy I am to have found this. You guys mean the B&N on 22 in Springfield, right? I go to Kean so it's a wonderfully short drive for me.

Hi all!

Just took the proverbial leap and signed on for the NaNoWriMo challenge! I'm based in Union County. Free-time is subject to kids' and parents' needs and freelance work, but when I AM free I'd love to meet some of you for mutual support and some uninterrupted writing time.

I do not mind driving up to 45 minutes to get to wherever you all are. Parkway, 22 and 78 are all easily accessible.

May I assume that kick-off is at midnight tonight? I wish you all high quantity writing and lots of satisfaction!

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I've been planning my novel for some time but have only now gotten around to signing up officially. I'm looking forward to meeting others from this area at B&N on Friday!

Can someone tell me, will we only be doing actual writing at the write-ins, or will we be able to share ideas, brainstorm, etc.? The problem is, I only have a desktop PC, so any actual writing I do would have to be longhand -- which is difficult for me because my hand cramps up very easily. But I would love to talk with others and discuss our stories if people are into that.

My experience with write-ins is that there has been considerable conversation in addition to writing. some people don't bring anything to write with but they do want to socialize...and sometimes conversation just happens. Most of you would probably be meeting each other for the first time or maybe this is the ONLY time you will see each other. So chit-chat is understandable. If I need to work on my count that badly I usually bring some music and headphones.

I may be a bit late in finding/joining in this write-in, but I'm definitely interested in coming if there is still room. This is really my first official nanowrimo and having a place so close at hand is great, especially since I don't drive.

Not sure if I'll be able to make the meet-ups, but I would certainly like to try if folks don't mind a NaNo Rebel in their midst. :) (Writing a creative nonfiction work-in-progress.)

I know this is epically late but I'm coming to the first one (98 and three quarters percent guaranteed). I may come to others too (excluding the thirteenth when I shall be at a wedding rehearsal in PA) I'll be in an MSMA hoodie and jeans
