Hi Everyone!

I'd love to get together with other NaNoWriMo participants in the area this year, especially as I'm new to the area. Don't mind organizing events, either - just say hi. :)

Also, I'm actually in Qualicum Beach, but have no issue traveling to Nanaimo or Parksville, especially if meetings were during the day.

Hey there. I'm in Nanaimo and I'd love to meet up. Not sure if any of y'all are VIU students, but there's a cafe and a cafeteria on campus, both with places to sit and write. I have a car (or will have it back from the mechanic's by the end of the week) so if you can get to the place we meet, I can give you a ride home. :)

I'm in Nanaimo. First time taking a kick at NaNoWriMo. It would be interesting to meet with other writers (although between work, kids, and the actual writing, not sure how much time I'll have). It's gonna be one wild month.

Just signed up for my first year, and hopefully not my last. This is going to be one heck of a month.
I just hope that my young and untainted mind can pull out the 50 000 words on time.
I've already got an unpublished, unsubmitted, and slightly unfinshed 300-pager in the works, which I'm going to have to drop if I'm to get this done. At least I've got some experience under my belt.

Anyway, I'm in the Departure Bay area.

Hello all, another Nanaimo-ite here! I managed to miss all the local NaNo get-togethers last year, so I'd really like to make it to one this year :P

Hey all. I'm from Duncan and I'm willing to go up to Nanaimo.
This will be my third year. Are there any plans as to when and where you want to meet?

:x silly me for not checking this forum first before I posted something in the Victoria forum asking if anyone else was from Nanaimo!

I live about 10 minutes from South Nanaimo/Chase River. My mom's the manager at the Chase River Tim Horton's, so if anyone wanted to meet up there in November to do the cliche writer thing and sit and sip coffee and write, then we could hang out!

depending on the day and time, and assuming I can get up there, I'd be up for it

Has a meeting place/time been established? I'm in Nanaimo, and I would love to get together. I was thinking of hanging out at The Vault, because it has such impressive (inspiring?) architecture, but I'd love to get together with someone else to explore the power of peer pressure as a motivator. Is anybody free to meet somewhere tomorrow (Sunday the 25th of October) -- just to meet, this time -- writing get-togethers to follow during November?

This is so cool! I thought I'd be the only NaNoWriMo in Nanaimo (how can we *not* have a meetup with that name?).

I moved to Nanaimo exactly a year ago from Vancouver (and many places before that). I don't know many people here and look forward to meeting all of you. This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I'm still deciding which story to dive into.

Sandra, I *love* The Vault - it's one of the reasons I moved to this city (yes, I judge a city by the coffee shops it offers for writing). I was thinking maybe we could schedule a NaNoWriMo reading there the first week in December - more pressure...I mean, motivation. I'll be around tomorrow (25th); email me if you want to meet.

Lady_M - I also thought of doing a reading at the Duncan Garage Showroom. Have you ever participated in their For the Love of Words night?

Cheers,
Sarah

p.s. The Tim's at Bowen & Wallace is 24 hours if anyone wants to make plans for the all-nighter (Nov 22nd).

Sarah, I missed you at The Vault this afternoon, but I did some writing (and ate some carrot cake) while I was there. I'll keep checking back, to see whether we can manage a meeting before November 1.

S.

For the Love of Words?
No, I haven't even heard of it, but it sounds interesting.
Do you know when it is?

Just touching on this, briefly -- I had a car. Got it back from the mechanic's and it got a flat tire, and I've also been informed that if I don't replace the timing belt, oh, yesterday then I won't have a vehicle anymore. Engine will go 'splodey. So. I have no working car as of now, meaning for me meetup places will have to be within range of the university area so I can bus/walk/bribe a friend to drive me. :)

Sorry I won't be of as much use as I thought! =/

For the Love of Words is at the Duncan Garage Showroom on the last Tuesday of every month (oops - I'm a day late).

Someone told me there are also readings monthly at the Mermaid's Mug? (Then someone else told me the Mermaid's Mug had closed).

Mermaid's Mug is closed, unfortunately. They closed down a few months ago.

I'm in Port but I come to Nanaimo every Friday for Voice Lessons. This is my first time doing NaNo and I feel a bit overwhelmed but I'm sure it will be great.

It's October 30 now. I don't have to work either tomorrow or Sunday, so I hope to stay up really late (for an old lady) just to see NaNoWriMo in. I went by The Vault tonight to ask whether they are going to be open tomorrow night, but I was too late. They were already closed. So. I'm going to go down there tomorrow at about 11 a.m. for a cup of coffee and a chat. I'm hoping that they're having a special Hallowe'en party or something that would keep them open after midnight. If they aren't open, is there anyplace else that folks would be interested in meeting tomorrow night? We could count down to midnight, write our first 500-1,000 words in company, and then go our separate ways. I'm definitely not a night person, so I don't even know what is open after midnight (short of the pubs, which might be not so good an idea on Hallowe'en).

Tim Horton's *should* be open after midnight, and they've got good lighting. That would be my place of choice. The Vault may or may not have a band or something equally noisy, and I'm not so keen on that stuff going on while I'm writing. They're great for during the day, though.

May be able to make it; maybe not -- if I can't I'll be there in spirit!

A meeting in Nanaimo would be great! I work days, but evening and weekends are usually flexible.

Anyone going to be at VIU tomorrow? I can meet at Java Bean or the Upper Caf around 4-ish or later if anyone's interested.

I can do that - except that I don't know where Java Bean is. It sounds smaller than the Upper Caf, so I'll look for it before I brave the caf. I'll be the old lady - make that "woman of mature years" carrying her Netbook in a faux-reptile purse.

It's the coffee shop right next to the main library entrannce. I'll wear a yellow jacket.
