You'd better believe I'm excited! :D I'm already planning easy dinners that hubby and the kids can make and I'm working out the outline for my novel, Cutter's Revenge. It's a western. :)

:: Waving from Little Rock :: This is my first NaNoWriMo so I am excited.

I'm still undecided about what I'm writing. My son's eleventh-hour change in college plans still has me in the "adjusting" phase so the epic fantasy piece about a race war might have to be put off 'til next year. ;-) Right now, the safe, boring romance is pulling ahead.

Anyhoo, glad to see the Arkansas section getting some action.

Fourth year in a row for me to write a historical romance for NaNo. Oh well, maybe I will branch out next year.

Hi everyone. I have had a lot of personal experience to draw from in the last year. I hope that I can someday watch a movie where someone dies without becoming a basket case. I am going to make a few outlines and see which one is either terribly painful or terribly fun! I got lost last year trying to write something that required a lot of research, so I think going with something in my experience range would be better. If that is cheating...I really don't care! :) Kathy

The write-from-experience method actually sounds like a good one! I can definitely relate as far as the mourning-basketcases goes!

Last year I was going through the joy of having someone I love/depend on in jail for a month. And guess what month he happened to do it in? Yep. November! The bastard! lol.

So this year I'll be dedicated. I have nothing better to do, really.

I'm thinking Romance as a broad genre...I love reading historical romance, but that would involve a lot of research...something that will probably ruin the spark of creativity for me.

I'm excited to see people from all over Arkansas posting. :) I'm also excited to see so many people planning to write romance because that's my genre and I'm in the minority with that in the Fort Smith group (FYI, that's in no way a complaint, you guys know I love you).

I'm writing a contemporary category romance called All Roads Lead to Ross. It's targeted toward Harlequin's American Romance line.

Or at least devote 50k to for NaNo. I've been in a real slump lately and I need a serious kick in the pants. I'm hoping NaNo will be it. My royalty checks keep falling off and I seriously can't afford that! LOL

This is my first NaNoWriMo. I finished my first novel last year in September. I haven't started anything new, although I've been thinking a lot about it. NaNoWriMo seems like a great way to get jump-started on a new project. I'm leaning towards a novel about a very difficult mother/daughter relationship, tentatively titled 'Kudzu' ... I'm in Little Rock, and I am surprised that there isn't a Little Rock region ...

I'm not sure why Little Rock doesn't have a region, probably because no one has volunteered to be a ML. There are several people in Little Rock who were active at the forum last year and I know they planned a few write-ins. They might start posting the closer we get to November.

This is my first NaNoWriMo. I am working on an outline for a dark horror book. I am located in Gravel Ridge.

Hi all! This'll be my second NaNoWriMo. I'll be glad to start this one on time, and not two weeks lae! I'm still largely undecided on what genre i'll be writing. I have a few ideas, a few requests, and a few stories i'd really just want to see as a reader. I'm extremely excited, even though my busy schedule will probably mean I don't get to meet any locals. But so far my stories will be one/several of the following: epic post-apocalyptic sci-fi dark fantasy space opera tragedy. Zombies, bonanza in space, aliens, faerie, or plain ol' man vs man... I'll pull it together before long though!

That is a tough one to answer...looking at a space operaish type story but at the same time I am thinking some sort of historical fiction..maybe I can blend the two? Honestly just not sure what I will be writing but I should know more after this weekend.

Great to see more Little Rockers!

Am leaning toward something almost {shudder} mainstream. Mostly b/c I can't get the idea to let go. Plots would all be around vacuous college-age relationships, which bores me stiff in real life, but as an author the manipulation factor is enticing. And the late 70's early 80's was a droll time for kids that age, so I should be able to wrap it in humor, which is my forte.

Maybe I won't need to resort to ninjas, wallabies, flying monkeys, or UFO's. "Rocky Horror," however, would fit perfectly (or so I've heard, *naughty snicker*) since it was an integral part of the times.

Also, it was the time of Queen's musical reign. What a great excuse to drag out the old LP's and do the stomp-stomp-clap.

I dunno, though, I may just drag out Gammy and Junior for another spin. Or take the original character from my fanfic and cross her over with them ...

[Edit:] Pretty sure I'll do the coming-of-age novel. It'll stretch me to write something I don't normally like (to see if I can make it interesting), and a couple of my friends say they'd like to read it, but MAINLY it won't leave me alone, keep getting ideas -- you know the feeling.

I, too, am surprised there is no LR region. I just moved to LR 2 weeks ago and was excited at the thought of a local region. But, at least there are some events planned.

I'm doing a paranormal romance, angel and demon. My goal for the finished project is 75K and it's aimed at Nocturne. I just finished a 27K angel romance for the Samhain Angels and Demons call... I sent it in Sunday... and now the angels won't leave me alone. I usually write contemp romance.

Man so many ideas! I think I have locked in on a dark fantasy story.

Hey! I'm from Little Rock and I'm going to be writing a serious mainstream novel about a girl who has been raped and also a story about the wife of the rapist. It's going to be a difficult book to write, but I like a challenge. Add me as a NaNo buddy so that we can participate in this together.

I also came up with another project about a group of people in a futuristic setting. Both need to be developed some more, but I don't know which one I'm going to do for NaNo. The more realistic story would be simpler, but would be slower to write than the stranger science fiction novel.

I'm writing a Mystery novel, loosely titled "Truth on the Rocks." It should be part humor, part adventure, part traditional for the genre. I've decided to go against the grain and cast the main character as something other than a traditional detective type (she's a reporter), and the setting is during the tail end of the Silicon Valley era (it's essential for one of the main plot points that technology be around, but not that accessible). It has a Russian Mafia boss who isn't actually a Russian Mafia boss, an annoying co-worker who you can't live with but it's not legal to kill, and an Editor who abuses a few too many non-prescriptive substances (with good reason!)

I hail from Little Rock, and this is my first Nano Wrimo. I've written numerous short stories before, but nothing of this magnitude. So far, it's been loads of fun. Wish me luck!

Oh, and why /don't/ we have a group for Little Rock? I'm disappointed that we won't have one of those all night write-ins. I was looking forward to attending one, when I heard about how much fun they were from my Nano sponsor in Austin, but we don't have one! ::pouts::

I'm really excited to see so many people here in "Elsewhere", Arkansas doing NaNoWriMo! Most people I tell about it are like "wha?" haha I just started today (I always mean to do NaNo and forget until its too far into November to do so but this year I didn't let that be an excuse!) and just finished the planning. Gah, I'm a loser for putting it off.

I'm writing about/the only way I know how to do (musefully); I'm doing a delightful mixture of comedy and fiction. I am sooo jealous of those of you more than half done! Or hell, anywhere over 10k. I feel meek around you guys D: But enough rambling. My story involves teenagers (duh haha), cookies as currency, a hypnotist, synesthesia, Ohio, Where's Waldo, and drinking games, to name just a few of the very funny things I'm going to throw in. Yup, I raided the dare section and intend to use it all :D

I am writing a book about death and dying. Talk about your upbeat subject. WHEW!!! It is not a dark story but it certainly isn't an easy one to write. Good golly Miss Molly...sometimes I just have to step away and let myself breathe. My protagonist just has to find her way without me some days because well, you can only stare death in the face for so long. I don't know how hospice staff do their jobs. I have a new appreciation for those who have devoted themselves being part of the process that helps patients and their families deal with the dying process. They must have great fortitude.

I hope that everyone is seeing their characters take on their own personalities and breathe without constant attention from their creators. When our characters can make coffee and fry eggs without our help then we know that we are doing our jobs right.

I am writing a story based loosely on friends and adventures I had growing up in Western PA. The main character is the narrator and serves as the POV, then there are six friends that have their own personalities being developed as things unfold. The problem I have right now (it's a good one) is that I want to explore each character within the narrator's context and I haven't quite been able to do that yet.

Six of the kids have been friends 'forever' and one kid is basically new to the area. Two girls are fraternal twins. I haven't quite pegged the ages yet, but it would sit around 8 or 9 yrs old, I think.

The kids are on a quest to find the fabled "madman" living in the woods near the suburbs where they live.

As far as the story goes at this point (and I am skippiing way ahead here), the narrator and another character fell into a lake at the bottom of an old rock quarry (one kid was pushed). While drying off, the gang eats lunch and gets into a skirmish with one of the characters who feels like an outcast among his friends.

This is my first crack at nano, and it's been fun, though somewhat consuming my free time (what little there is).

I love the quest to fine the "madman"...I went on such a quest several times at the old state hospital cemetery where an "albino axman" was supposed to be the caretaker at the cemetery. I never did find the "albino mad" in this cemetery that had a suburb built around it but we had lots of wonderful adventures trying to track him down.

Goodness gracious, my protagonist's best friend is turning into a MEANIE! I was writing a scene where the protag was giving the friend a ride to a mutual class for an important test, and ran back into the house for s/t she'd forgotten. The friend waits and waits, thinking how rude my protag is, and then finally (best friend, she has a key) takes the truck and goes to class herself. I laughed myself silly writing it, but am still ANGRY at that imaginary girl.

Is that real enough? :D
