I'm sure everyone has their favorite places to write..........share about what is yours and what makes it special!!!!

For me, I think my favorite place to write is the Starbucks on Quaker. For one, I usually get more writing done when I'm away from TV and the normal hectic life routines. But, also, I love to people watch and have come up with several new characters from the people inside Starbucks. Last year I was in need of some minor characters who attend a funeral. After a couple of hours, I had a plethora of characters I had created.

Plus, a good espresso rush is great for writing early in the morning or later at night :-P

I'm boring. I mostly write at home. My office is set up with no distractions, so I don't have to wrestle with the temptation of doing something else and putting the writing off.

Before I moved to Lubbock, there was a park in Amarillo that I used to go to and, morbid as it might sound, I used to go and sit in a mausoleum to think and come up with ideas. The second was actually something I picked up from one of my old high school teachers who is now a very successful full-time author.

I used to do all my writing at the Koffee Kup (Slide Road & 29th Drive). It was great. Very quiet (a few people around) and good coffee. Unfortunately, it was too quiet. I guess they didn't get enough business so they closed.

I've been trying to find a new writing home. There are too many things to do at the house (laundry, dishes, TV, etc). I've gone to Hastings (Slide & 82nd) a few times. It's OK until you get a couple of Hastings employees in there talking and running the blender. Then I can't think.

I wish there was a coffee bar inside one of the local libraries. I could go in there and sit (in peace) and drink my coffee and write.

The Daybreak on 19th is always quiet when I go in there. Plus they have plenty of outlets for laptops. I can usually get a lot of writing done there.

There 's the new Barnes & Noble opening November 4th....I wonder if it will be a good place to write.

The Hastings on 50th is actually pretty calm if you need a quiet environment. i prefer Starbucks...especially when the weather has been as cold and wet all weekend!!!

I don't tend to have any favorite places to write. I like Sugar Brown's, except that I never get any writing done there. It's usually too loud and distracting. The Hastings on 50th is a good spot, and J&B is another quiet coffee shop.

I'm considering getting a NaNoWriMo sticker from the store and slapping it on the back of my Netbook. That way, if you see me anywhere, you can come up and poke me while I try to write. I won't bite unless it's past midnight.

I used to go to Daybreak, but it always seems to be crowded when I go. I guess I just pick the popular times.

A friend just told me that the Godeke Library (which is supposed to move into the old B&N building) might keep the coffee bar open. If they do, I might go there. Of course, that won't help for Nanowrimo.

I write at home, in my too-comfortable chair, in front of the monitor that's ruining my eyes. It's the only place I get any production done.

The first year I did NaNo, I wrote and J&B Coffee until it got close to finals. Other years, I've gone to IHOP on the loop. Every year that we did kick-off there, the staff set us up at a table by the outlet, and were really nice--several of us got character names from going there. Plus, you can't beat having easy access to food and coffee.

Being new to Lubbock, I don't have a fave place yet. I've been to the Starbucks over on University, and I dig it. It has the right amount of noise for me to get stuff done, LOL

Looking forward to finding a few haunts to spark my creativity.

I usually prefer quiet when I'm writing, because I'm a auditory learner and am easily distracted by music or conversation. The stacks at the TTU library are really quiet, but I usually write curled up in the hideous, peachy-velvet chair in our guest room.

I had never thought of the library stacks at TTU. Definitely a place to write....especally if you need to write out some creepy or horror moments in your novel. I always thought those stacks would be a great location for a horror movie!

The stacks at the TTU library is one of my favorite places to write. Just make sure that if you have a small bladder you pick a floor with a bathroom. (I think 2 and 4 have bathrooms.) The small, confined study carrels are GREAT for writing! And the library's just old and creepy enough to provide a little inspiration!

HA!

You're absolutely right about that, Craig, and I think that the 2nd floor is the only bathroom with an official handicap stall. My husband is on crutches, and I've gotten a few earfuls about library design and handicap accessibility since we moved here.

Went to the stacks at the TTU library today to try and find my place to write. I'm a big fan of the third floor stacks. Especially if you're looking to be haunted. I was up there during the game, and I guess there was not enough movement, and the lights shut off and scared me. I nearly screamed.
