Hey everybody!

I'm sorry we haven't had an opportunity yet to pop in and say "hello", but here we are, and you'll see us around a lot more. We will be sending out an email pretty soon, to help remind everyone of NaNo and hoping to see some more people come on the forums. I know we're looking forward to a very busy November, and I can't wait to get started!
Come say hi if you haven't already, and let us know if there's anything we can do for you this year.

Until next time,
Jon

Um, hi.

I'm around. Sort of tend to do things when I see them needing to be done and would love to be able to help out if it's needed at any point this November.

And for some reason, I'm out of my usually eloquent amount of things to say. I'm going to blame the pain meds and the antibiotics, I think. The two of them together have me absolutely silly.

I'm really looking forward to this, the weekend of the 25th is totally open for me. I was able to make the second half of the initial meet up last year, and liked getting to know people.

My only suggestion for this year would be to ask, wherever we go, if we could have the tables organized by region of LA. I might have a friend coming with me for this, but last year I didn't and it was really awkward to be alone, and on top of it, I didn't really meet anyone who was writing in my area. Having tables organized by region would be a big help for that.

Other than that, as far as venue goes I really have no clue. I only really know the west side, so I'm not sure about anything central enough for everybody. What about BJ's up in Burbank? I feel like they can probably do a really large party - though I'm not sure they have a room for a party like we would probably need.

Hello all! I'm Kelly or SweetIrony, your other ML and Jon/Composr's wife. I just realized I forgot to introduce myself here on the forum. I have a good excuse for it though! Here she is:

Our baby daughter, Gwenaëlle, who is now a month old. :) She keeps me busy.

Anyway, this is our third year as MLs, the previous two years we were the MLs for Hawaii. I am excited for what will probably be my most challenging NaNoWriMo yet, and I look forward to meeting many of you in November!

Hello all,

I'm Eirdrien, or Eir, and I just moved back to LA earlier this year after studying in, oddly enough, Hawaii for the last three. I kind of have a tendency to come and go and mostly lurk about when it comes to forums but I just thought I'd say hello and wish everyone else in the area good luck.

Hi Everyone. I'm Shannon. I live on the Westside. This is my first go at writing a novel. I haven't written in a long time and November probably isn't the right time at all. I'm going to Europe for 2 weeks right at the end of November! Taking the Laptop. Figure I can write on the plane. Anyway, I have a fun story to work with, so I am ready!

Good luck to everyone!

Hey folks!

My name is Riis. I live in the south bay and this is my 7th year doing NaNoWriMo! I'm really hoping to hit the mark this year. Last year I was a little preoccupied with the fact my wife was due to give birth any moment during November. Kinda makes it hard to concentrate on much else. :-P

Hi, I'm Molly. First year doing the NaNoWriMo (which is just too fun to write/say).

Question about the kickoff event: should we stay from 2-7? Or is it an "open house, stop by whenever" sort of thing? Just trying to plan my day. :)

Thanks!

Hello again everyone,
I'm Sheldon. Another Westsider. This will be my third year doing NaNoWriMo, and the first year I'm going in with a full plan. In fact, the novel this year is one that I've been planning for about two years now. Last year, I made it past the 50K mark, but just barely, and I wrote most of it in the last three days. Going through that actually made me physically ill, and I swore that if I get myself into that kind of a situation again, I'm just going to let it go and not force the issue. I'm hoping that having a well thought out plan is going to help pace myself a little better. I also suffer from chronic insomnia, hence this posting time, which can be both a blessing and a curse. It allows me to get more done, but sometimes I'm in a sleepy fog that makes it difficult to get anything done.

Hi!
This is my second year. I've been writing short stories pretty consistantly this year, so I'm going to be interested in seeing how or if that translates into writing a big bad novel.

I'm in the South Bay, Torrance.

Hello all,

I heard about NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago, but this will be my first time participating. I have no idea what I'm going to write yet, but I'm looking forward to figuring it all out and getting started.

I'll try to make it to the kick off event tomorrow, so maybe I'll see some of you there. :)

Hey everyone!

Chantal here!

This is my first year doing at NaNo, and I'm really excited! I live right over in West Hollywood, near Pink's. I'm looking forward to meeting you lot at the Grove tomorrow!

I've got an idea of what I'm writing, and I've done a little with the main character for fleshing out. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Hello all.

I'm one of those people who had heard of NaNoWriMo from friends but never got around to doing it. This year will be my first and I'm very excited about it.

What's this about meeting on the 25th? Tomorrow, Oct. 25th?

Yo~

I generally go by DG; I'm going to school in Pasadena, and this'll be my third year doing NaNo. Between the workload from school and so much writing, I hope my brain doesn't explode this year... especially as I'm leaving off detailed planning until I can actually get around to writing. I guess I'll just have to wait and see which direction my novel goes (and hope it doesn't show obvious signs of the writer spending too much time on psychology and biochemistry)...

Hi everyone, my name is Bethany and I'm really looking forward to NaNoWriMo. Me and some friends in a writing club at APU are doing NaNoWriMo this year. I really want to get out and meet other authors, but we're not really car-capable here. If anyone in the area wants to come to our write-ins or carpool us to others we'd love you forever!

My name is Gretchen, also a Westsider. This is my first year doing NaNo and I'm definitely pantsing this novel. Hoping I can keep up, but I've just turned a ms. in to my agent and if she asks for revisions I might be SOL. However, I love a challenge and I've always wanted to do NaNo so here I am!

Hello! I'm Megan and this is my first NaNo. I hail from Rancho Palos Verdes (just north of San Pedro).

I've pulled myself away from my other blog-novel for a month to write this NaNo. I'm afraid of mixing up my characters or accidentally giving them traits or crises they otherwise wouldn't have. November is also a busy month with 2 birthdays, a wedding, teaching confirmation classes on sunday, looking for a job, and thanksgiving. Oh well, part of the challenge, isn't it?

I have the main and supporting characters fleshed out, along with the first 4 chapters outlined.

Hello everyone! I'm David and I also go to APU, where I'm the prez for the creative writing club: Authors Anonymous. I'm still not sure what I'm going to write, hopefully some of us will meet tonight and I'll decide, but I'm really looking forward to the process and loving NaNoWriMo so far. There are about ten of us interested in NaNoWriMo this year, mostly newbies, no winners. Our school is very supportive of the club, this being our first year and us being so epic ;), but I'd like to get the community here involved with the writer's community outside of APU. The only problem for getting to write-inss and such things is that transportation+college student=not happening. I'm assuming, this being LA, that we have a organized, awesome community. Yes? No? Looking forward to doing this with you all either way.

Hey all,

Jason here. It was nice to meet some of you today at Farmers Market. I'll toss out some info about me real quick.

32 years old artist/designer living near Larchmont Village. I've never done NaNoWriMo before, but I seem to have lost my muse, and I'm hoping that focusing on quantity will bring her out of hiding. I have no story to work with yet, no plot and no characters. I'm scared. :)

Hi. I'm Madeline.

I attended the kick-off at the farmer's market and it was great meeting others who attended!
At this point I've got no plot, no characters, but eh, that's par for the course (at least for me). This will be my 7th one. Only time will tell whether I have learned from my previous experiences.

A tip for new nanoers: Leaving the last 40% of your novel 'til the last weekend is not as much fun as it seems. Slow and steady wins the race. :)

Hi all!

I'm Anna and I live on the westside. I was planning to come out to Farmers Market yesterday but got sick and was bed-ridden all day. :( I'm hoping we might have another social event at the same place mid-way through so we can commiserate and eat yummy food and buy nourishing fruits and veggies together (pretty please, since I missed this one?).

So this will be my 2nd and a half NaNoWriMo (I had to stop mid-way last year). My first one, I did through a UCLA Extension class (lots of fun!). First time, I went in with no plan to just give myself over to the process and get away from a novel I had extreme writer's block around. I made the 50,000 finish line and then some, but it was an all-over mess (yet I did get some interesting short pieces out of it, so not at all a waste. Never!). Second time, I tried to just write out that novel idea and let it go where it wanted (but it didn't budge and I wrote elsewhere and then had to stop). This time, I have been working with poetry and flash fiction the past year to just learn how to focus. So I have listed the scenes I'd like to do for this novel and will do a little bit of outlining, and then let myself run all over the place within that outline. Hopefully, that will work!

I work at UCLA and would love to do westside write-ins. I'll check over at that thread to see what's up. Hope to meet some of you in person sometime. In any case, good luck and GREAT writing!

Best,
Anna

Hello, my name is Rowena and I'm from Torrance. I'm a sucker for happy endings so I'll be writing a contemporary romance. I'm still throwing ideas around and haven't settled on one idea long enough to flesh it out into story but come November 1st, I'll be ready to roll.

Tag, folks!
I'm Rachel and this is my fifth year doing NaNo (officially-I did a little in '04, but got distracted a week in and never signed up). I've got four wins and one spectacular failure under my belt.
My NaNo this year is a reworking of an idea from '06, but it's a completely different beast. This time, I'm organized! I have an outline! And character sketches! And plot ideas! And subplots!
I live in Hollywood and I work downtown.
Good luck to all and sundry!
