Hello, everyone! I'm not actually in Arkansas, yet, but it looks as though I may be transferred to the Little Rock area for work next spring, and I have a few questions about NaNo in the area. Right now, I'm in the Austin, TX area, and we are a ... lively crew. We have tons of events and write-ins throughout the month. It tends to be about the only time I'm actually sociable, and I've gotten used to it over the years. So, I'm wondering, are there many write-ins in the Little Rock area?

There were a few write-ins last year; we Arkansans love a good party though! I'm sure if you get in the area and start pushing for a get-to-gether, people will respond in kind. :D If it weren't for my tasking schedule and long drive I'd be more prevalent in the scene... Work tends to take a nice bite out of freetime! I wish you the best this year and I hope that where ever you end up is kind to you.

NaNo-greetings, Kendra!

We have no ML in Central AR (as in LR-NLR-Jacksonville), to my knowledge, so maybe next year you might volunteer? (how's that for being blunt?)

I have scheduled a few get-togethers for this year, but I was gone when the boards were erased. I will *try* to post that info for those in the area.

I haven't met any wild ones here yet, but maybe you can spice us up! I do know that I found GREAT support for my writing (I only do it as a hobby, but still ...) and made great email and RL friendships.

Sorry I couldn't help out more. But do drop by the fourms if nothing else.

I am hoping that my work/grad school schedule allows me to attend some write-in's this year. I live about an hour south of Little Rock so I am good with it as being a central location.

I hope to make some of the write-ins. I usually spend some time at the Coffee Beanery in West Little Rock writing during the day. They are good about letting me hide in a corner and do my thing. LOL

I really LOVED seeing you at last year's write-ins. And maybe you could put up a post here in the Arkansas:Elsewhere Forum to promote your writers' group. Maybe I'll start a general one and we can all chip in.

Funny thing, I totally would not read the genre you write (not my area of interest), and any normal person would be bored stiff reading what I write, but I enjoyed meeting with you as we did our separate stuff.

To begin with, Grammy, you are hilarious! Me, as an ML? That's got to be the funniest thing I've heard all day! While I do occasionally chip in as an extremely unofficial assistant to our ML here in Austin, I'm nowhere near organized enough to be an ML. Besides, making it official would be far too much like work. But, I may well agitate for a write-in or two, because I always seem to get far more done at write-ins than I do on my own, even with socializing and goofing off. Of course, what I'm able to end up doing will depend entirely on what my schedule looks like, as it tends to be a bit crazy. For instance, right now I work 12-hour night shifts on Saturday and Sunday, and 8-hour graveyard shifts on Monday and Tuesday, so I'll be hosting a weekly morning write-in at a local coffee shop before heading home on Wednesday mornings. If I have a similar schedule after moving, I'll likely do the same ... provided someone can tell me a good place to do it, since I'm not sociable enough to go find one on my own. ;)

I have to admit that I've found write-ins to be extremely conducive to writing. It certainly doesn't work out the same for everyone, but for me, there's something about sitting with a group of people who are all facing the same struggle I am that somehow makes it easier. Even if the actual write-in is rowdy, it only seems to make the ideas flow faster. So, if I do end up in Little Rock next year, you guys will likely be hearing from me far more than you'd like to. :)

Shayla, put on your 2010 calendar: November -- take Texan under wing at coffee beanery.

:)
