What are you favorite spots to write in the area. I like to go outdoors as long as the battery holds up, Peets and Starbucks are of course universally available and have ample power and internet, but get old after a while.
Sometimes though I feel like a glass of wine or a beer would go well with writing/working. I guess I'm looking for a laid-back bar or restaurant that I won't like a freak in breaking out a laptop. :-)

I like to write and discuss writing at the Borders in Elk Grove. We can get a table and the manger Doug is very hospitable. With the assistance of the Sacramento MLs I can help coordinate a group here in Elk Grove.

If you're willing to do the setup and pick a time, we'll happily add it to the Big Board. If there's anything else you need that we can provide, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Robfromca, I know that there are a couple of places in Davis where you could go to get a beer or some wine and get some writing done; I used to hang out at Delta of Venus on B Street (I think that's where it is). It's been years since I've been there, though.
If you find a place in Sacramento, let me know!

There is a Coffee Garden on Franklin that has a whole separate room one can reserve, but I am not sure of their hours.
I too would love a good chill bar for writing, especially since most coffee shops are closed by the time that I get off of work.

The library in Folsom has been amazing for me in the past. Sit over in the little cubbies in the adult section with some earphones on and spread your "writing junk" all over one side of the table (but only one side, we gotta let those non-writers have a little space...).

I do best writing at late night: 10 P.M.-3 or 4 A.M. Plus, I don't have a laptop unless I borrow my brothers. But when I do have a laptop, I just sit outside Panera Bread at 1 A.M in my car, facing Barnes & Noble because it keeps me on task. Creepy much? Well, definitely, but affective. My home does fine at night since every one is asleep, and I get so much silence, which is impossible during the day.

so far i have done the majority of my writing at my church. it is a generally quiet place, which is nice, and has some pretty good places to just go and walk around outside for a bit if i need to take a break.

Weekends I do the bulk of my writing in the cafe at the Border's in Vacaville...it's usually quite but not too quiet, and if you're there often enough the kids behind the counter often have your usual order ready for you pretty freaking quick.
I'd like to find a spot in Dixon, but so far the perfect writing place has eluded me.

weatherstone at 21 and I has started selling wine and beer by the glass. I think they are only open until 11 tho. I was scoping out the Mercantille last night for writing possibilities, and i think it might have some potential....

I love Butch n Nellies at I & 19th, but they do have free wifi, which can lead to distractions. I know they have a beer and wine license these days but I think they're only open until 9pm. If you have afternoons off and want to have a beer or a nice pint of cider, Streets of London on J between 19th & 18th is really quiet from about 1:30 until the evening crowd starts showing up. Supposedly they have free wifi but I've never gotten it to work. Sadly, it gets loud in there in the evenings; my wife and I had dinner there one weeknight around 10pm and we could hardly hear ourselves talk.
