Rules for hosting write-ins:
1. You MUST be present at the write-in you are hosting. If for some reason you are unable to make it, please inform me, Renda, because I maintain the calendar and the boards. I need to know that you are canceling your event so I can remove it from the calendar, and you don't leave forlorn writers wondering where their fearless leader is.
2. Have fun! The best write-ins I've held and attended have been laid back, but they definitely need a leader. If you're hosting, make sure you engage everyone who attends. I always have everyone introduce themselves (to the point that it's a joke among regular write-in attendees) with the info such as: How long they have participated in NaNo, What they are writing about, What their word count is at, and What their goals are for the write-in are. I also HIGHLY recommend "Hello, My Name Is" stickers. I forget everyone's name. I'm not sure how long it took me last year to stop calling a lady named Jenn: "Mac Lady".
3. Please be patient with me if it takes me a day or two to get your event on the calendar. I'm a busy volunteer, and I promise I'll get it up on there.
4. If you have any issues, questions or problems that arise during your write-ins feel free to contact me or Amanda.
5.Please limit write-ins to two per weeknight and two at a time on weekends; one south of Seattle and one north of Seattle. Please check the events calendar when you are scheduling your write-ins. There's no need to have 4 going on one day. We should combine down and create larger and more interactive groups.

I would also like to say that people should be able to host as many write-ins as they desire. Seattle is big, and I know for a fact if there is a write-in at noon in Phinny Ridge, I might not be able to attend it (since I work), but I shouldn't be limited by the fact that someone else has run a write-in already that day from hosting a later write-in.
Nanowrimo is all about inclusion. Everyone can write a novel in a month. We should keep write-ins the same way. Everyone can host a write-in to fit their needs.

Hi Ilana, I will get your write-in up on the calendar. :)
Also, to address your concern. This rule isn't "hard and fast" and is meant to encourage a spreading of the love. If, for example, yours ends at 1pm, but another starts at noon, that's definitely something that can be worked out. I'm not, in anyway, trying to exclude anyone, but rather am trying to make sure that everyone who hosts a write-in has success.
I will re-write the wording for clarification to say that it means two write-ins at a time. The rule was mostly to address the after-work gatherings on weekdays. Last year we combined one from Kent and Tukwila, and it was far more successful than having the two groups spread apart with 1-2 people at them.
Sorry for the confusion on that. Just so you know, some regions, even huge ones, won't host more than one a day. We are big, we are the ducks and we are the region winners for three years, and that's something we have to be proud of. A lot of our success comes from our write-in hosts. I have to manage the calendar, which becomes a full-time job once NaNo starts and counter-balance it with the fact that too many write-ins is overwhelming to Wrimos. The calendar is there to help everyone out.
So, hopefully that explains the rule, and the fact that it's not set in stone at all. And if you have any more concerns about it, please PM me or send me an email: rendadodge@gmail.com. That's what I'm here for. :)

I think the "Pre-November Plot Doctor Meet-up ~ North Seattle!" already happened on the 17th of Oct. Acording the the thread it was changed from the 24th because the meeting place was unavailable. The calender still says the 24th so I thought you might want to take it down to prevent people from showing you to no avail.
I am not connected in any way to the event, I just don't want people to be mislead.
Thanks.

Fremont Write-Ins
Tried to schedule these to work best against existing events and people's availiability. Realize the Wednesday ones conflicts with Northlake, but figure that covers more of a North of town crowd - where this one is easy access even from most of the city. The Sunday one is scheduled only for those Sundays when there is NOT a Hugo House write-in.

Hey Renda! I've set up another late-night write-in for late in the month. This will be at Jitters in Redmond Overlake behind Sears on 11/21 from 10:30pm-1:30am. Wayzgoose hosting. Here's the Yahoo guide and map.

Here's the link to the thread I started:

Megan, the manager, will serve espresso, drip coffee, hot cocoa, and tea. She won't be starting up the Granita machine because of the cleaning and setup time. We'll work on having some snacks for the party as well. WiFi is also available.
We're trying to do this on a "two-drink minimum per person." For most drinks, that will come to about $6.00.
In order to make this work, I'll need to show Megan that there will be enough people attending to make it worth opening up in the middle of the night. (Jitters closes at 6:30 on Saturdays, so this is a private party for NaNo writers.) We can accommodate about 40 people at a time, and it will be cozy. There may even be some cool new prizes for everyone who does something cool. (Let me think... finish the 50k? I'll come up with something!)
Respond to this thread to let me know you are coming. I'll ask Renda to put it on the calendar.
