Welcome to NaNo 2009!

This year, you have your very awesome ML team returning--that would be myself (Sara or Nia) along with Kelly Felix and ihatepeas (Sarah). We are gearing up for another amazing year of literary abandon, and we are thrilled that you are joining us!

To get thing started, let's introduce ourselves in this thread. Newbies and veterans alike, let us know if you are going to be noveling with us in November...and any other details we might need or like to know!

___________________

My name is Sara, and this is my sixth year (well, fifth if we don't count the crazy year in '06 when I thought I'd write, but I went to Africa instead...) as a NaNo novelist. It is my fifth year as ML for Colorado Springs.

In my spare time I mentor teen writers on an online forum, I write, and I've recently taken up RockBand. I love writing, love hanging out with creative people, and can't wait to meet you all!

Howdy Sara and all the great leaders for our region,

I'm Anita and I'm back for another year as well. It's my second year. I hope to finish two years in a row!

Our writing group, Writer's Write on Meetup.com, are hosting two events per week during Nov. Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 4 at Nemo's and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 at Agia Sophia. Anyone's welcome to come and join us.

Log on to Meetup.com and to catch any updates.

Hey everybody!!
I'm back for another year!
I'm Hope (wraithfound) and this is my fourth year doing NaNo!!!!! I usually set up the Monument events and use to lead the LPHS group, but I've since graduated. Hmmm, I like noveling of course though my true love is screenwriting and I hope to be a screenwriter one day :) Recently I've been addicted to Crocheting and can't seem to stop..... is there a self help group for that? *shrug* Anyway you'll see me around at the write-ins if you go!

Hullo! I'm Diana, and new to the Colorado Springs area (ish...) and this is my 7th year doing NaNo (3 years as an ML). I was living in Northern Virginia but what with the economy and all, I've moved back in with my folks here in the Springs and I'm going back to school at UCCS as a business major.

I'm looking forward to hanging out with you guys, cause we (my fiance and I) had a great group out east and they really helped with getting the writing done and I hope the same can happen here!

I'm Sarah/ihatepeas, Twinkie to the teen writers that I mentor online. In fact, it's sort of weird to meet up with a bunch of people from online and NOT be called Twinkie. But I've been ihatepeas on NaNo since I started, so . . .

This is my sixth year doing NaNo, my third as an ML, and I would make this a longer post, but I'm watching NASCAR. :P

hello everyone! my name is emily, and i am new to the springs area as well, having just moved here ("just" meaning three months ago, roughly) from indiana. i am so glad some of you will be at agia sophia! number one, i love love love the place, and number two, last year our meetups were an hour from where i lived (not the case this year).

anyway, a little about myself. i graduated from college with an art degree at the end of april and hauled out to colorado as soon as i possibly could. my fiance (we got engaged during the last nanowrimo, at a barnes and nobles) is still in school, here, so while i wait for him to graduate, i spend my days hanging around an eye doctor's office. you know, for a job and stuff.

i'm pumped for this year's nanowrimo, but a little scared. i have no clue what to write about, whereas last year i spent october outlining my plot. nerdy! it will come to me though.

finally, i've been doing nano for...five years? or so, i'm not quite sure. i've won twice--my sophomore year in college, and last year. and gosh, i love writing. and narnia, sara! in january i made my way through the entire series for the first time.

okay, that's me.

ps if/when we meet in real life...i'm shy. so, sorry if i sit and don't say anything for the first ten meetings.

Anita, you forgot the URL.

I am ScottyDM and that's is my name. Also, NaNo's information is bogus. I was a full participant in '08.

I've seen it too...use the "My NaNoWriMo" tab at the top, then "edit user settings", then "author info", and at the bottom of the page you can select which years you participated and which you won. I hope that helps :)

Hooray for the wonderful ML Team -- and thank you in advance!

I'm Laurie, and I'm back to try NaNoWriMo for the first time since 2006! My first year was 2002 and if I'm getting my stats straight I've won 3 times, didn't finish twice, and skipped it altogether twice. I've missed it like crazy the years I didn't do it, so I'm back for another challenge this year!

My son, Ben, is 12 and he does the Young Writers Program -- this will be his 3rd year! I'm looking forward to writing along with him again this year.

I live in Falcon and would be up for any northeast end of town meet ups, especially. I'm free during the day as well, unless something changes between now and then.

It doesn't look like I'll make it to the Kickoff Party but I still hope to get to meet all or most of you in person during the month!

Hello Everyone! My name is Jodi and I'm a first timer. I've lived in Colorado Springs four of the last seven years, courtesy of the USAF, and I'm also an 'East of Powers' kind of girl. I'd LOVE to meet up with the like-minded in the evenings and on weekends (me and you, Laurie!) somewhere on the east side of town.

I have no idea what to expect and I'm really enthusiastic about it! This is a good sign, right? :P

Hey hey,

Back for year three! Totally excited to get writing again. Pretty confident I'm going to finish - got my plot banged out and there's only a little bit of character detail to flesh out. Should be fun! My youngest son just turned a year old today; last year he slept most of the time I wrote, but lately he's become an early riser. Finding a new writing time may prove challenging.

I'm also on the east side of town (just past the new St. Francis hospital). Love to meet up with you other easterly types! Maybe we can set up some write ins? I'll bake pastries if required. Honest. =D

Oh, and Sara, Rock Band is the bees knees. My wife and one of my sisters were playing it only a few hours ago. I have since learned that I am not a good singer.

S.M. Crosse here, formerly PhelpsnHamm! This will be my 6th year doing Nano and hopefully a sixth straight win. I am rooming with Jaina, and we are setting up free write-ins at our place on the west-side/downtown portion of Colo Spgs. :) Super excited for this year, because my novel seems to be coming together nicely. Well...the first half at least. I'm not going to worry about the second half until I get there.

Here we come a nano-ing!!!!

Thystle, from Larkspur- which is halfway between Denver and the Springs and kinda falls into the "other" category. Been doing Nano since 2005 and slowly improving my writing skills.

Am up for any meetings in Monument (thanks, Wraith!) or Castle rock, or possibly one in Larkspur. The pizza place will let us have one here provided there are enough folks interested.

Cant wait for this to start!

'Ello there. I'm Echo, or Sara, which ever seems to work. This is my second(?) year doing nano. Have yet to win, but this year I'm determined. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to a ton of the write in's this year, last year didn't work out so much.

I'm in school for art, happily married to my other half, and addicted to coffee. Nano= another reason to consume retarded amounts of caffeine. :)

Looking forward to meeting people, and crazy amounts of writing!

Hi, all, I'm Kelly and this will be my...er...6th year doing Nano...won 4, didn't finish last year. This will also be my second year as a co-ML and I'm attending college this year. My son Santakat (a forum lurker who you probably will never see post) is also doing nano this year.

I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting all the new folks. It's gonna be a great November! K

I'm Ashen Fyre (Echo Fyre's adopted older sister. :) ) Ash for short. This is my third year for doing Nano, and this year I'll be doing it on top of working full time and attending school full time. So who's ready for a sleep deprived month?

Hooray for our hard-working MLs! I have really been looking forward to this November for...well, gosh, a full year now :P and scheming about it for about that long, too. And it's trebly awesome to actually recognize a few people around the place now--though now, watch, I'll embarrass myself by not actually being able to recognize anyone at an actual write-in. Pshaw.
Bryndel here, or Samantha, or "hey you over there," whatever is easiest for you to remember. This'll be my, what, fourth NaNo? but only my second one in the Springs. I'm a recovered Air Force brat who nonetheless can't seem to escape constantly moving back to the Springs. This year looks like I won't have any of that silly useless job or school stuff to distract me so I have no excuse whatsoever not to finish my 50k. Right? Right. (Of course, that also means less of that silly money stuff about, but hey, who's counting. I better start saving my quarters for those write-ins, though, come to think :) )

Although, come to think, this'll be my first year trying it with a boyfriend about... his first NaNo, and I don't think he'll be writing anything himself but I think I still rather pity him. X) (He and friends have been inculcating me into RockBand these past months, as well.) I'll be changing genres this year, too, to fantasy from science fiction--suspect I have a better chance with less science to get in the way, lol; this should in theory be easier to B.S. Plus I have a gazillion pages of notes on possibilities for world development to draw on if I get stuck...we'll see how this works in practice.
I live up Black Forest way, though I should be close to UCCS for a fair portion of the month as well. And yes... I talk (and type) too much. (Just not 50k worth of fiction too much, it seems.)

A warm welcome to all the newbies--we are so happy to have you join us! And I promise some write-ins along Powers, since I'm in the area as well. We'll TRY to get write-ins around town as well, but we need your help. If there is somewhere you want to write, let us know! We tend to favor Panera (because, hello, they are wonderful!) but we've done other places as well.

It's also wonderful to see some well-known faces. IronChef, we may take you up on that offer! I've been waiting for two years to sample your cooking! And just for kicks, we might have to have a NaNo RockBand Jam--because even though I think I sound horrid, the game thinks I sing pretty well--and I just love it!

Thystle--my sister lives up in Parker, so I'm game for a write-in in Larkspur, granted there isn't snow--I hate driving in snow :P

cowluverluver--congrats on reading the series, they have been a favorite of mine since I wa sin the 5th grade. I reread them often and still love them, though I'm more a fan of the space trilogy now I'm all grown up...

Hello hello! I'm ashes_of_lovers, also known as Kelly. This is my third year doing NaNo, and I'm soooo excited! Last year I failed miserably (thannnnnks, World of Warcraft, for putting out a new expansion in November), but this year I'm on track and ready to take another swing at things. I also have actual transportation of my own this year, and plan to be at both the KickOff Party and several write-ins - especially at Agia Sophia, I love that place! :)

Thank you to the ML's for all their work in organizing and leading the write in's. I had a great time at the ones I was able to attend last year.

Hi my name is Shortstuff, when you meet me you will see why I chose that name.

This is my second year for NaNo, 2008 was my first year having a run at it and I was a winner. The forums and the write in's where a great help to me in finishing. I also loved to see that little blue line making progress to the right.

In February I joined a writer's group in Parker, Words for the Journey. http://www.wordsforthejourney.org They are a great group of writers and they meet weekly so there is lots of time to learn the craft and make new friends. There are about seven from this group who will be doing NaNo this year. I also attended the Colorado Christian Writers Conference in Estes Park this past May.

This year I had a story published in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Tough Times, Tough People. That was exciting for me.

I live in the North West part of town. I attended the write in's at Panera on Powers, I will be there again this year.

Hi, name's Amy.
This is my first offical nano, I did one in July and made it but now I'm back at school so I'm not as sure. I've got a couple friends doing it with me so hopefully we'll motivate each other. Hope to see you all at write-ins.

Hiya, I'm Re or Renee depending on how many syllables you want to say that day. This is my first Nano and I hail from the Widefield area, when I'm not writing things or roleplaying I'm working for WSD 3 in the kitchen of Sproul Middle School.

I adore playing video games, reading comic books, and watching cartoons from the 80s and curse my inability to draw anything more complicated then a stick figure that I then turn into attempting to make the pictures in my head make sense in word format. I'm looking forward to going to a write-in at some point, because I've always heard how fun those are and would like to be part of one at least once this Nano.

Hi, I'm Scott. This is my third year doing NaNoWriMo. The previous two years were done Denver, but now I'm down here in the Springs. I'm in the Briargate area, so not sure what write-ins are going to be happening around here, but will certainly be trying to attend some. I want to attend the kick-off, but I think I saw that's going to happen on the 24th and I have plans to go to the Coffin Races in Manitou Springs which I believe is the same day.
