Once upon a time ago there was a beautiful girl. Her name was Janna. She was having a hard go of her NaNo novel. Her fellow NaNo-ite told him to 'put Tim in the novel'. And she did. Janna put Tim in her novel and that year was her first year winning.
Ever since then, Calgary's challenge was to put Tim in novels. The challenge is now tradition. Last year, Tim went global. People from all over the world started putting him in their novels, and had fun with it.
This year, put Tim in your novel!!!! Again.
Also, feel free to put other challenges that are all age appropriate in this thread!

It worked for me too! Last year I put Tim in my novel and it was the first year I won :)
I'll also leave a challenge for people to include glow in the dark hamsters. :P

My challenge is to have a scene featuring a common trope of whatever genre you're writing - and then horribly, brutally, hilariously subvert it.

I've got a couple going for myself, one of which might work for everyone else too (though it's just a small challenge).
I use igoogle.com, which is a personalized google homepage that you can add applications, games, etc. onto. One of my applications is "Word of the Day". Every day, I'll be using that word in my daily noveling.
My other challenge is to work in my friend's artwork once a week. He knows the basics of my storyline, but not all the details. Every week, he'll be handing me a picture that I'll work into my novel over the following week. It could be interesting! lol
I might have to work Tim into mine this year too. Sounds like he's a good luck charm! :)

Tim is one of our veteran Wrimo's on the board. You'll find him going by the name of Hero. Yes, he is a real person. The story above is true! You'll get to meet him at the kick off! :)

Anyone know of a site with a random name maker? I use the baby book, but it just gives first names. Then there's the fact that either I pick names that start with the same letter, or most of the name is the same except a random letter or two was changed.
Thanks!

Well Tim - I guess my prescript would have to include the following warning -All characters depicted in this work are entirely fictional and any resemblance to any individual living or deceased are entirely coincidental - except for Tim. Of course this inclusion reveals the sordid underbelly of the writing world, breaking the long held facade that the characters we create and kill off brutally for our own sick demented pleasure are not actually the people we despise. Our apologies go out to the poor deluded souls who believed otherwise.
Now - to prevent coming off poorly one may suggest a small - how you say - gift. You know it would be a darn shame if something were to happen to Tim and we all know that the darndest things tend to happen to characters in novels. We'd hate to see Tim get - broke. :)

First time I used Tim in a story, he was Tiomoid, an evil dragon that got blown up real good. Drago bits everywhere.
Last year, he was a rock being who owned the Book of Tim and named himself after Tim. Had his own little cult and merchantdise.

I can't even count the amount of times I've been brutalized in novels, but believe me when I say I have no issues with that. Everyone tells me they'll kill me horribly, or make me some tortured creature, or whatever.
You can do whatever you want with Tim. The point isn't to have Tim survive your novel. It's to have Tim -in- your novel.
Statistics prove that by adding Tim the sheer awesomeness quotia of your novel increases by 500%, and we all want sheer awesomeness in our novels.

Rusla,
I still haven`t ruled out a free dinner yet - and besides there are far worse fates then death. I`m thinking something along the lines of Prometheus - but that`s the kind of thing you don`t do to someone you`ve yet to meet - you need time to work up to it. Consider Poe`s Pendulum - each swing brought it a little lower until it either seared the flesh or the victim cast himself to his own demise in the chasm below. LBS and a tapeworm are but the first foul swings with each returning slash growing more vile until my terms are met. Petty perhaps but then I am a Scotish accountant and I`d hate to miss out on a free meal.

That reminds me, Tim, would you rather be a vampire that gets brutally murdered or a human that gets brutally murdered? Also, do you prefer evisceration or dismemberment?

Ryan,
Ah spoken like a true Scotsman. What better occupation for a Scotsman than accounting. I fear there will be no free meal for any of us on Sunday. However, perhaps you can make haggis out of, Tim. Why pay more for your meat.

How about a challenge where all the character's names in your novel are just anagrams of each others names. Therefore; create one "original" name and then just rearrange the letters to create everyone else's names. The challenge is making them all sound good and realistic.

Putting Tim in my story works out pretty well.
My challenge is to mention a broadway musical in some way. Any musical, and bonus points to he/she who manages to make it important to the story.

Depending on which idea I finally settle on, I was thinking of using this random video game name generator:
http://www.norefuge.net/vgng/vgng.html
to create a title and jumping-off point for at least one of the chapters.
For example:
Chapter 3: Android Zombie Boxing
Chapter 74: Heavy Metal Karaoke in Space
Epilogue: Weary Midget Kids

This Tim challenge is intriguing, but perhaps it's time to up the ante?
Have Tim tell you the most boring possible story in his life, and transform that into the inciting incident of YOUR story. Tim stood in line for six hours to get a bag of cashews? The planet is destroyed. Tim was entranced by the nutritional information on a box of honey nut Cheerios, for an entire day? Corporate espionage.
To add Tim may require skill, but to make Tim the thrust of your entire novel?
That takes balls.

I did it last year. And I do have a major part for Tim in this story. He isn't the mc, but he WILL be helpful. He's royal blood. He's a high Elf. He's leader of the Elves in the mundane world. He's handsome and gorgeous. But this being me, there's a twist to the character.
I have a challenge. I want to see Spot the creyfish mentioned. He's n actual pet I have. And I think it would be interesting to see him mentioned. :D

I put him in last year. He was a giant, blue talking toad. I won. He's appeared again this year. Dr. Timeous Hornfeller, the head M.E. of the New Starhome Police force. He is also a Half-ling with a facination with death.

I have a challenge for myself, but I need a bit of help. I need common quotes from kids cartoons that has George in it.
EG:
George. George, George of the jungle. Strong as he can be. Watch out for that...tree. (George of the jungle)
I'll hug you and squeeze you and name you George. (Bugs Bunny)
It's part of a side plot in my story. The hero of my story insists on calling the heroine of the story George. I want to have it that people ask him "Why George? Is it from _tv quote__?"
Thank you! :D
