I'm just wondering if we've got any other teenagers in the Vancouverish area?
I feel like I should write something else here but nothing comes to mind... so fellow teens? Speak up.
I'm 15, by the way, and this is my first year attempting NaNo.

I'm here. I'm not really vancouver though. more towards the "-ish" part. Like, New West/Burnaby area. This is my first NaNoWriMo too, and I'm really worried about balancing this and homework. Oh, and I'm in grade 9.

I'm a teen! I'm not technically in Vancouver either, but the Sunshine Coast doesn't appear to have too many writers about, so I usually lurk around the Vancouver boards.

I am currently 16, and it is my... wow. This is my third NaNo, I won in 2007 and 2008, and am going for my third... Though we'll see if grade eleven lets me.

What are you all writing about? All young adult fiction, or no?

And hey! I see A Great and Terrible Beauty quote... are you a fan?

Me!

I'm in Grade 9 as well, "ish" as well. This is my second NaNo, last year I got to 25 000 words. I'm in the Tri-Cities area. Currently I'm using a plot inspired by one I found in the Adopt-A-Plot forum. It's so different now - thought it wouldn't seem like it from the couple line description - I can truthfully say that posted plot was only inspiration and this one is MY creation. I've struggled whether or not it would be for the young adult age group and I'm thinking yes. If I ever queried agents, I don't think I'd specify, if that's possible, and I'd let them decide. It's basically about an orphan blind girl and a volunteer at the orphanage who become so close, they're sisters in all but blood. The volunteer girl's parents adopt the blind girl. Then the blind girl's birth parents come back for her and it kind of messes things up.

Is this our clubhouse? :D
p.s. I liked A Great and Terrible Beauty...not a favourite, but it was an interesting read.

Happy Writing!

While not a teen, I am hoping to stop by one of my old creative writing teacher's classes at my old high school and give the class a couple of minutes on what Nano is, and how to get involved. I think its great that there are more and more young aspiring writers every year!

For any younger nanoer's who have protective parents, know that your folks can join in on the meet ups or events. They're quite welcome!

Do any of you teens think you'll make it to a write in?
It sounds awesome and I'd love to go to one or two (particularly the transit write-in which looks neat) but I don't want to travel too much to do it. I could probably convince my sister to join me, but there's lots of variables. I don't really want to go all the way into Vancouver... but we'll see.

Just wanted to pop in and say that the write-ins will all be teen-friendly in that they take place in locations where all ages are accepted. However, I know (lived in Surrey all my life) that making it all the way out to Vancouver can be quite a time commitment when you already have a load of homework too. I see that tweak3 has already suggested that the floating write-in be in White Rock close to her (and I think the location sounds awesome! Really hoping we get enough interest to set that one up!) and you also have the option of suggesting other write-in locations. If you think there might be enough interest with your school or a particular teacher and you'd like me to send them some info or get in touch with them, please let me know!

Ooo me me me! :D
I'm 17 and graduating this year so I hope I can keep my grades up and write at the same time ;]
I've done NaNo two years before, but I've never finished :x I'm hoping this is the year.
I don't live in Vancouver, but in Delta, but I'd love to have some teen write-ins XD

&&My sister, who's 12 - everyone thinks shes older - is doing YWP and I'll probably be dragging her around with me to whichever write-ins I go to ;P

My sister is a teen (16) and apparently trying NaNo this year. I'm not sure how active she'll be in the forums, but I'll see if I can point her your way at some point ;)

Oh hello fellow NaNoWriMo's!
I'm sixteen and this is my first year doing this; I'm pretty much obsessed already, hahah. I'm actually doing this event with my whole writing class, and we have group write sessions at my house to bounce ideas off each other. It's going to be an amazing experience and I am certain this will be just the beginning of NaNo-ing years. :D
By the way, my name is Nova and I am a proud geek of the fantasy and sci-fi realm. xD

This is probably not going to help, but:
Do you know about the Book Warehouse? It's a place where they sell books cheap(er). This afternoon I got a copy of Going Bovine for five dollars off the list price (it appeared to be the only copy, though).

Well hey thurr :) I'm Kristi, and I'm 18, just graduated in June. Oh my lanta, I'm so excited to be doing NaNo for the first time. I've heard about it before, but I'd never really dug into what it was all about. I think it's fantastic, and I hope I'll be able to cross that elusive finish line; just glad I don't start school until January when the winter semester kicks in. Don't know if I'll be able to make it downtown to any of the meetings though, it's a little far for me to go from Maple Ridge :( We'll see how it all works out.

Oooooh I do like Book Warehouse. And I think I have a coupon from Word on the Street somewhere... this could be good. :) thanks

Ooh so where is this Book House?
I'm in the Tri-Cities, anyone around here? Anyways, I joined 2 years ago I believe, but never actually got around to writing. This is the first year I plan on really writing a novel! Or attempting to, of course.

Hey!

I'm seventeen and in first year college. I suppose I'm Vancouver-ish, living in Coquitlam. I'm very excited to be going into my first year of NaNo, but we'll see how that goes... My name's Maggie and I write Fantasy/SciFi.

Well, since I am both a teen and a resident of Vancouver (Kitsilano, to be precise)...yes, it seems there are teens out here :) I'm 15, and this is my third Nano. I've been easing myself into this a little bit: my first year I only told myself I had to write 1 word (I succeeded XD), then I increased that number by 10,000 (technically 9,999) for my second year, then did the same this year. By the time I graduate, I'll be writing 50,000 words, hopefully.
About the write-ins: I'd be willing to go (transportation is rarely a problem) but I'd really like to know there were some other teens going so I wouldn't feel so...young. Both the VPL and Transit write-ins sound fun, so I might go to those regardless...we'll see.
Any other Vancouver/surrounding area teens: Buddy me! We can be moral support/resources/etc. Don't be a stranger :)

Good luck everyone!

Hey there!

While I'm not technically in Vancouver (Delta, actually), I thought I should still introduce myself...

My name's Fishy, and I'm in grade eleven this year. I'm kind of shy and kind of crazy. Trying to finish all my schoolwork while finishing a 50000-word novel is going to be trying... but I think I can do it. :)

I heard about this from an online friend in December of last year, and I was really disappointed that I couldn't participate in NaNoWriMo 2008... but maybe it was a good thing after all! I'm feeling much better about writing than I was then, and I've had more time to think and prepare. Let's do this.

If there are any other writers who'd like to get a mutual support network going, count me in! :D

Ooh! You're the only teen who seems to live quite near where I do (seems like everyone else is in Delta or Surrey or New West or east Vancouver), which is sort of in the Kerrisdale/Shaughnessy area, I guess. That sounds like a pretty good game plan; I hope you succeed! Sadly I probably won't be able to attend most of the write-ins, but I hope we can still be buddies (this goes for everyone else too)!

I'm in grade 11, out in South Surrey/White Rock. This is technically my first year doing this, though I'd previously started two other books (And have already surpassed one of them with my NaNo!), and I'm intent on managing to finish it too. I've got a few other friends out here (and one in Richmond) doing it, so if I can get a couple of us together, we might come to a meeting or two (Though our schedules are all so hectic, it'll be difficult...)

I'm at NWSS (New West Secondary). And if you're "metrotown area" I'm guessing you're at South. Hmmm that's not very far at all...
