Welcome to members and friends of Winston-Salem Writers!

My name is Stacy and I'm a one time NaNoWriMo finisher and a member of Winston-Salem Writers. I had a great time writing last November and I'm looking forward to trying it again.

Please join me and other Winston-Salem Writers at Panera Bread on South Main Street in Kernersville on Sunday, November 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Share the excitement of your first day of writing. We will also have a door prize. "No Plot? No Problem!" by NaNoWriMo creator Chris Baty.

Please check this forum regularly (or subscribe) to learn about other write-ins and gatherings.

And, if you are a local writer, I'd love to join your buddy list.

-Stacy

Oh this is very cool :D I live in the Walkertown area. I'm trying to get some people to meet with me in Winston before November, but I'd also love to do this. I'll keep it in mind!

Hello Piedmont/WS Writers. I'm Wendy and won NANO last year. I'm on board for this year. I will put the start date on my calendar to meet at Panera Bread. Hey Lori, how ya doing? Let's do this. I believe Donalee is going to do it too and Dan from WS Writers. I hope we'll be able to meet in WS at times too.

I'm doing alright, Wendy. Definitely looking forward to NaNo, and trying a new setting. How about you?

Less than 2 weeks until we start.

Trying to get my life in order for NaNoWriMo. Time to make some freezer meals and clean the house. November is meant for writing.

Hope to see some olf friends and meet new writers at Panera.

Hey Jess,
Hope to see you on Sunday but if not, we'll have to meet like we did last year. I do have a new setting and characters. Adults this time and the open seas. So I guess I'm kind of following in your last year's footsteps. LOL I'm doing a pirate tale. I put it under fantasy because they don't have a fantasy/adventure tag. When it lands in a bookstore, it'll be in the fantasy section, so there ya go.

I've got an outline of sorts this year. Not going to wing it like I did last year. Drove myself nuts. :)

I think I'll be coming to the NaNo Gathering! :)
I hope I'm not the youngest person there. Might bring a friend, if I can convince anybody to join in the awesome! xD

Hello Aly!

Well, I'm going to try and make it to the meeting on Sunday (I'm at camp right now, so I may not make it), and if I do, you won't be the youngest one there. I'm sixteen too :D It'll be nice to have another teenager around! I've also invited one of my friends to come, and she's fourteen (fifteen?) and she's doing NaNo.

Can't wait to see everyone! I'm itching to start writing!

Just figured out that the event at Panera will be during the Packers v Minnesota game. That stinks! But I will still be at Panera with (hopefully) my 2000 word start.

This sounds exciting. Hehe ^^ I was wondering where the Winston-Salem region was... apparently there isn't, but there's a few of us here. Yay! Anywho, I'll pretty much be at home. Can't go to Panera Bread. =(

So I guess I'll be writing with you all in spirit ^__^

Nice to meet you all, btw. My name's Meli, and I live in the south side of W-S. (And I'm ever so glad to see some W-S writers!)

...and as you can see, I lack social skills. ;)

Great to see other W-S area writers. I live just south, near Welcome. I won't be able to make the meeting on Sunday, would have loved to meet all of you tho. While some others were worrying that they might be the youngest writers, I hope I'm not the oldest one in the group. Lol. I'm in my early 50's. Any other mid-life writers out there?

I can't make the meeting on Sunday because I have a function in Charlotte on Monday morning and I'm going on Sunday afternoon to set up, but I would like to keep up with this group. Great to see some friends here -- Donalee, Jessica, Wendi, and others I may have missed. I was hoping we could all meet this year. I've had a rough couple of months - been nursing a lot of my family though the Swine Flu, have had a problem with my eyes, trying to close on a condo, moving (still be in Kernersville) but I'm giving Nano a try anyway. I'm counting on the fact that I write fast. I may need a kick in the pants now and again.

Wish I could make it to the meeting, unfortunately it falls right on bedtime for the little one so I'll have to miss it. This will be my first year doing Nano in NC so I'd love to make another writing session later in the month. Happy writing! :)

Not actually going to return to being a Winston-Salem writer until the 9th (vacation in LA at the very start of NaNoWriMo = not very much sightseeing) but was wondering if anyone else would be interested in having more than one meet-up this month. Check-ups to see if we can all still actually speak in whole sentences. I'm surrounded by people who don't even know what NaNoWriMo is and I think I need a 12-step program.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it tonight. Rawr at busy-ness and lack of time-keeping skills. I hope it was awesome! I definitely second another meet-up for NaNoWriMo people in the Winston area, a lot of my friends are doing it, but none of us could make it out tonight.
Hope everybody's novel is off to a brilliant start!

Ack! I'm quite sad about missing this! Unfortunately, it's a school night, so it just wasn't in the cards for me. :(
If I have more advance notice next time I might be able to make it though!

I hope everyone came close to the 2000 word goal. I'm psyched because I actually made it with a little to spare. I'd appreciate ya'll dropping over to my profile and reading the exerpt from my first chapter, and leaving me a comment. ( I already know I'm comma happy, lol. I'm trying to work on that.) Thanks and please post if you plan to have another get together meet up this month.

Bah, we didn't get home until late and I couldn't even get my 2000 words in, let alone make the get together. I vote for another meeting too se we can all check on each other. Maybe around the 15th or so? Now if you'll excuse me, 4000 words await me...

Hey, everyone!

If you're a facebook user, Eileen and a couple other people have created a group for people in NW NC on facebook, a support group for local NaNoWriMo participants. You should join!

I'm a week late getting on NaNo blogging--did sign up last weekend but forgot how to find everyone in WS. Yay! I found you. I'm in my late 50's. Does this count for mid-life? Or am I too old? Just picking. I'm in King--so I'm not exactly S. Winston. But we might be trying to set something up next weekend closer to downtown Winston. Maybe, you can come to that?

Cheers,
Donalee

We should be meeting again -- maybe next weekend somewhere in WS this time, Borders or Barnes and Noble. Cute comparison between NaNo and 12 steppin'. Went through this last year. Everyone I know remembers NaNo from last year (I can hear the groans in my sleep). Although, this year I haven't told the people I work with as I don't want them to know why I have to take a nap during my lunch or why I make mistakes. (I get up at 3am to write).

I gotta go home now (been out at the local coffee shop trying to catch up with some night-time writing).

See everyone around,
Cheers,
Donalee

Hey Gang,

Anyone interested in meeting at Borders on Monday at 7pm? I don't know if I can make it (my daughter has basketball try-outs and I don't know how long they last), but the rest of my week is filled up for certain.

If this doesn't work, y'all still need to pick another night to get together. Strength in numbers.

i wish i could have gone to that first meeting. I didn't join this group until today. Peace to Aly and Eileen. I've been keeping up with the deadlines every night but last night. But that was because I was feeling exhausted. But I'm making up for it today. I've almost made today's goal. Hell, I've even kept up with the writing every day plus a little, so that helped. I think writing a few hundred words over the goal makes reaching the next goal easier every time. And you don't have to every night.

Good luck to every one! I hope that you're all keeping strong. I hope I can too. Being sick makes it hard though. Peace! And good luck! Hope every one's hit the 10,000 mark!

Whoohoo, Lynette! Congratulations. Are you shooting for 100K? Just curious. I'm finally starting to catch up to my minimum daily goal to make the 50K by the 30th. I had a couple of slack days last week that threw me behind by over 1000 words everyday. I've had a good writing weekend. Saw "2012" yesterday with my daughter. Whoa! Talk about teeth gritting, seat gripping, I can't leave to pee, action! That's the kind of special effects I'd love to see in the movie based on my "Saving Dallas." (Hey, you have to dream it before it can happen, right?) Hang in there everyone lagging a little behind. Try to write everyday (that's the secret plot behind NaNo anyhow.) Why don't y'all write a short note for the blog page when you're taking a little break. I'm, at least, curious about what's happening in your worlds.

Cheerios,
Donalee
