Calling all Comets, and anyone from around campus! We need to organize some write-ins!
Last year, brimh and I tried to host a couple, but no one else ever showed up, so I'm determined to find more people this year! Do we have any other Comets participating this year? Or even people who live nearby would be interested in attending write-ins either on or off campus?
And just as a brief introduction, my name is Alyssa (you can call me Ally), and if you're a sophomore or freshman this year, you've seen me over the summer as one of the Orientation Team Mentors. If you know me, feel free to stop me on campus and say hi, I swear I won't bite! I'm a junior and an Arts & Performance major (formerly ATEC), but you'll often see me running about either giving tours of campus or rushing to Japanese class.
I'm thinking that the Pub or Comet Cafe might be good places to get together. The Dining Hall is also an option, but from what I've seen, they don't have plugs in there, so our time would be limited for those of us who use computers. Wi-fi IS available for those that will be coming from off-campus, though I'm not sure how to get into the system without a student ID and password. :\ (At someone's apartment is also an option, though if I hosted, it would be potluck style and limited on the internet. Anyone got a wireless router?)
Another place that brimh and I have used is Which Wich, on Campbell, a couple hundred yards from 75. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'd love to go if you get one arranged. I tried organizing write-ins on campus for 3 years in a row and never got any participation (I think the most people who ever showed up was four, one of which was a boyfriend who wasn't writing)...
I don't think the dining hall is a good option because you can't get in unless you pay. The pub or comet cafe, we could sit at a table and not be forced to pay the $8 fee to get in.
Please be sure to send me a message if you get one of these set up!

I'm a grad student in the CE department at UTD. I'd love to join a write-in if I can make it. I'm usually on campus Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Hey Alyssa! My name's Bryan. We met last year I think, but I can't remember what my screen name was. I have a wireless router I can spare if we decide on the apartment deal. Honestly I don't see why Waterview/UV doesn't just switch their apartment routers with wireless routers.
If I remember correctly there was a write-in at the Comet Cafe last year, wasn't there? I didn't go, but I remember there might've been one.
This might sound kind of dumb, but I've seriously thought about commandeering the rehearsal rooms in the new music building (right by CBW). I would love to have a piano (one that isn't broken down!) right there to mess around with in moments of mental distress.
I'm 80% sure you need to be a UTD student to use the UTD wireless. Can we reuse someone's credentials? (Say I sign in, perhaps someone else could sign in using my ID and password, too?)

Hey! I'm Stephi! I /normally/ attend UTD, but problems with ECS Advising kinda forced me into a semester off. :/ But, I live in Allen anyway, so I can still come play with y'all!!!
I have a wireless router if we want to attempt something at an apartment - no guarantees with being able to get it set up, but I'd be more than happy to bring it and us giving it a try!

If you do plan a write-in on campus, I'd be interested. I'm actually a staff member so I could only attend an evening or weekend event. This is my first NaNoWriMo, so a little outside support would be welcome.

I am another staffer at UTD (as well as an alum). If you welcome 31-year-old fogeys, I might be able to participate. I've got a new (teething!) baby at home, though, so it really depends on the time.
Good luck to all you Comets participating, though!
