Hello everyone!
I am a children's librarian in the Yonkers Public Library at the Riverfront branch, which is across the street from the train station. I am trying to get a writing group started for NaNo. A woman named Ava stopped by to ask about it, but we have been unable to reach her to discuss it further. (Ava, if you're reading this, please contact me.)
We have reserved Room 2B (on the second floor) for most Saturdays 2-4pm. The first date is October 31 for a kick-off/getting to know each other session. We also have the room November 21, 28, and December 5 for a wrap up/TGIO party. The room we selected is booked November 7 (as is the whole library) and 14, but perhaps we can find somewhere else to meet for those two weeks.
Feel free to stop by or send me a NaNoMail if you have any ideas, or just post here.
Michelle

Addendum: The whole library is booked November 7 (Family Day), but we could book a different room for the 14th. Maybe we could just skip the 7th and work on our own, and come together the following week?
If anyone is interested in coming for write-ins, please let me know. If I don't get any responses I will have to release the rooms in case another group wants to use them.

Definitely interested, I'll see if I could get a few of my school friends who are doing NaNo to come by also. Awesome to see the libraries are opening doors to NaNoers.

I'm definitely intrigued by having a library room! Seems much better than trying to find a cafe that may or may not have room. However, I'm not familiar with Yonkers - Michelle, what's the parking situation by the library? Is there non-parallel parking (yes, I'm pushing 30 and still can't parallel park...my dad may never forgive me)? Free parking? Is there a bus that can deposit people at the library? What train line is the station on?
Sorry if these are dumb questions - I'm a NJ transplant who doesn't get out exploring much.

I am from Dutchess County and don't live in Yonkers, so here's my best attempt to answer your questions...
Unfortunately there is not free parking. There is a parking garage a block away (get a ticket when you come in, pay when you leave), or there is metered parking on the street.
There are buses that stop by the library, they are on the Westchester County Bee Line. You'll have to check the schedules on the website: http://www.beelinebus.com/
The train is Metro North, the Hudson Line. To find information, go to this site http://mta.info/mnr/html/mnrmap.htm and click on Yonkers (along the green track).
Hope that helps!

Hi folks,
I'm just up Broadway in Dobbs Ferry (technically, right now, I'm in Yonkers at work). I could aim to join in some of the library sessions -- but I have the same question as someone else in the thread: What's parking like near the library? Although I've been to the train station, I'm not that familiar with that part of town.

Well, the Kickoff "Party" was very small... only two of us. But it was fun talking about NaNo, and it definitely helped me get mentally prepared for tomorrow.
As I mentioned, there is metered parking on the streets outside the library (on Saturdays it's not hard to get a spot). If anyone wants to come November 14 I can book a different room. We already have a room for the 21st and 28th, and a TGIO party on December 5. Everyone is welcome to come... if you can figure out how to get here. :-)

I live in Riverdale but Westchester is more convenient for me than the city, so I'd love to join your group.

Hi everyone!
I live in Yonkers and would love to join the group and should be able to make most of the Saturday writing sessions this month.
Please keep me posted if there's any alternate location for this Saturday 11/7 since the library is booked that day.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Happy writing,
Laura

If enough people come this year, I would be happy to apply for a Yonkers regional group and forum next year and to be the ML. Since I work at the library, I would prefer holding write-ins here. However, if anyone wants to set up write-ins other places, feel free to post here on the Yonkers board.
The Riverfront Library is available for us on these days *updated* --
November 14, 11am - Room 4A (4th floor)
November 21, 2-4pm - Room 2B (2nd floor)
November 28, 2-4pm - Room 2B
December 5, 2-4pm - Room 2B TGIO party
Unfortunately there's nothing for this Saturday the 7th. My husband is in the hospital so I probably couldn't make it to a write-in anyway. Looking forward to the 14th!
