so, mine is pretty cryptic and I'll explain it for those of you not familiar with the writings of Calvino - mine is mike oleary. You see, it is one of the better ways to hide - right out in the open. like lions in the grass. the zebra say, is that a lion over there? nah, that's just some grass with a tail, run! run! my name is the same as my signon - well, other than an Irish apostrophe that lots of computer systems, despite nearly superhuman connectivity and programming of neural imagery and vastly enhanced storage, cannot handle.
what about the rest of you? If it isn't some sort of state secret or in-joke that your average lurker (I can see you in the shadows you know, the stats page for the insiders is interesting to say the least) can't know - go ahead and spill it. Maybe we'd know a little more about you if we knew what your screen name means.

Mine is quite like yours Mike. Except mine takes cover under a D in place of an S for extra stealth. Lol. Well, that and my friend called me that in one of her strange moments and I stuck with it for online purposes. So it's not the most creative name, but I needed something easy to remember.

From the old version of one of my OYAN novels--Nairam being a code name for, yes, Maid Marian (though I've never called her that in my book...odd...always goes by Marian or Lady Marian...). I used it on the OYAN forum - Nairam, that is - and then switched to Lady Nairam at one point, but everyone abbreviated (no matter which I had) Nai. So Lady Nai. Not to creative, but a stealthy tip of the hat towards my obsessive Robin Hood liking. (Almost everyone figured out Nairam right away.) I consider Nairam/Nai to be my evil, death-and-suffering-obsessed OYAN-writer self. She may be gruesome, but she can tell a heck of a lot better story than Rachel can.

Once upon a time, I was strictly a poet. The only time I wrote fiction was under the duress of teen angst and in required fiction-writing classes for my major. Like, when I absolutely had to.
I used to sign "poet" on letters to a lover. To broaden it out, I had to add the T to make it me.
Then, along came NaNoWriMo and more varied practice at fiction. It has a different feel under the hand, takes a different kind of trance. I was finally able to get through the shell, reveal the fruit that fiction can mature into.
Still, my best stories are still the ones created from the shadow of a poem in my head.
poetT is the most whole identity in me; she herds and observes and sees all the rest of my menagerie with particular (though not logical) wisdom.

Ha, my name looks and sounds like it should have some fabulous meaning behind it, but...no. Yasaibatake is a very real (Japanese) word, which can be translated to "vegetable garden" (kitchen garden or even herb garden in some dictionaries). A few years back, I was trying to sign up for a huge online seed swapping group so I could find some new veggies for my garden, but every name I came up with was already used. I finally gave up on being creative and, as a Japanese major at the time, Yasaibatake seemed very logical and very available. The name has just slowly crept over to other sites like this one...
Fun fact: Yasaibatake is a compound word. If you choose to shorten my name to Yasai instead of Yasa, you are, in fact, calling me a vegetable in Japanese.

Maybe dadgecko is my given name ... no, I can't back that up.
Actually, I owe my signon to my son. Years back (more fingers than I can count), I agreed to coach my son's soccer team. As the new head coach I was at a loss as to what to call my new team. Sharks, like the last team? Nah. Wizards? Nah, already a soccer team in town with that name. So, what? Figured I'd ask the boy. He wanted Geckos. We went with Geckos. I had fun with it. Got nick nacks with geckos. Got a t-shirt with a gecko in tall grass that says "Be the Gecko." Got an x-box live account with moniker Be the Gecko. Son grew a bit, wound up whooping my butt on video games and taking over my user name, decided I'd be dad of "be the gecko." Shortened it out to dadgecko.
Not that interesting when it's written out like that. Sorry.
Ok, I lied.
The Queen of Sheba gave me the name back when I rescued her favorite cat from a croc on the nile. Hmm. That doesn't track either.

Griselda Banks is the pseudonym I plan on using when I get published - because duh, obviously, I'm going to get published someday, right? And duh, obviously, my real name is boring and wouldn't look good on the cover of all these wacky novel ideas in my head, right?
Several years ago, I was trying to come up with a suitable name that would portray my wackier side that mainly just comes out in my writing. My brother said, "Oh, why don't you be...Griselda Banks?" He claimed he just pulled it out of the hat, but it turns out that he'd been subliminally influenced by reading the name Griselda Marchbanks in a book, and had forgotten about it. (If you know what book Griselda Marchbanks is from, you read it too much :P) So March is the middle name of my pseudonym.
The nice thing about using this name is that nobody else in their right mind would want to call themselves Griselda, so I'm always able to use it!

Meowtima, I refuse to believe you are only a level 3 nerd. You gotta be higher than that!
My signon refers to one of the types of characters I've come up with over the years and actually some of my favorites are of the linewalker ilk. Linewalkers are a form of vytoc -- hybrid humans, who have joined their organic tissue to a nonorganic "matrix" which gives them greater strength, immunity from all disease, and speedy healing from all injury. They live about 5,000 years (give or take) and are very very difficult to kill. They also have the ability to manipulate the space-time continuum, allowing for near instaneous travel anywhere in the universe. And they have a marked tendancy to lord it over everybody else -- including other vytoc. Linewalkers live somewhat outside the general politics of the vytoc community and can be see almost as rebels except for the fact that they are the ones other vytoc call on to restore order when all heck breaks loose.
Last year's book was entirely about linewalkers but there will be a few lurking in the shadows of this one as well. :-)

I’m really enjoying the name explanations. More, please.
If you want to know what inkwet_image means, you have to grab a pen. It needs to be a black pen--the kind that writes easily, that slakes the page with ink, practically gushes black.
Now start writing, or drawing, whichever you enjoy more, and don’t hesitate. Create anything you want, but go as quickly as you can, scrawling the image onto the page, mistakes and all, words or pictures. Without stopping, lean a little closer, and look at the lines trailing behind your pen.
Where the slashes have just hit the paper, where your creativity is still fresh on the page, you will see the light reflecting off the bloodblack wet ink. In that rushing moment before the words can even dry, they shine.
That’s my name.

eriz is Eri Z. For some reason, I felt real small and insignificant when I started NaNoWriMo in 2007. Well, I know the reason actually.
Eri is my nickname since babyhood and Z is the first and last letter of my last name (also since babyhood). I am proud of being a Z person and did not change my name when I got married.
Eri Z was the name I gave myself when I was a DJ on WQAX-FM, campus-community alternative CABLE (which means hardly anyone ever listened) (lolol) radio in Bloomington, Indiana in the mid 80s.
Being a radio DJ and a writer were/are the things that make my spirits soar, the fun things that get me through the dark times, when I'm just little eriz hiding under the blankets, behind a rock, under a rock, sinking into the ground.

Okay, here goes.
Scorpio was the name of a minor antagonist in my first NaNo novel, a really endearing fellow. I always meant it to be a longer name, but I was trying to write quickly. Eventually, the rest of the first name, last name, and middle name accumulated, in that order.
When my first attempt at a username was already taken, I picked something familiar that was so outrageously long, that nobody else would have picked it.
Therefore?
Scorpionicus Clariano. (I'm saving the middle name for emergencies and conversation starters.)

i think my real name (holly snyder) is boring and ordinary. and i suffer from turning 30, being a mom, hitting a career crisis, and overall feeling uninspiring in my life. my biggest fear in life is being generic, a fence rider (standing for nothing), and blending in or fading into inconseqentiality.
my husband's last name is blair. and i love the name emmerson. so when i stuck them together it made me feel all "writer-eee-ish," so that's how i got my name.
i am hoping this name will inspire me when i am feeling less than inspiring.

Mine comes from poetoffire and me walking around Lawrence for a documentary I was making and discussing writing a parody of Twilight to post on the internet. We were coming up with pen names and, considering all the Mary Sues we were parodying and a random thought about Bloody Mary, I came up with my name. I originally used it as my username on our website, Make Fun of Edward Cullen Day, and I decided to make it my new internet pseudonym.
