Well, we've settled on a location!

Location: Verve Cafe
Time: 3-5pm
Followed up by moving to the Gloria Jean's in Borders at 5 for people who want to continue talking and drinking coffee.

This should allow workers to arrive late. We probably won't use it for the weekly write-in/meet ups, but we'll see how it works for the Kick Off Party. Travis and I will have goodies to distribute, we'll have a published Wellington based author giving us a pep talk, and all the usual fun that comes from talking about writing! Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Extra details edit: The Verve is the coffee shop attached to the record/DVD store next to Borders on Lampton Quay.

Nope. I'll tell more later this week, as I'm meeting him on Thursday and will confirm everything.

Ooh, this sounds like fun :-) I look forward to meeting you all there.
This is the first time I have thought about NaNoWriMo before it started, an improvement on previous attempts.
Meeting some fellow crazy writers sounds like a great plan to keep the spirits up and get through the month sanely.

Finally, a name I recognize from Script Frenzy. ^_^ Hello!

Now I must go do some planning myself...

Okay, I have confirmed our author for the kick off meeting, it's a friend of mine called Doug Wilkins. I'll allow him to introduce himself to you all

Doug wrote:
Doug Wilkins might not be a great writer, but he has a knack for encouraging them. In 2004, he founded the Sanchez Street Grotto Annex in San Francisco's Castro District. The writers from the Sanchez Annex have been published in a over a dozen languages and have won numerous awards this side of the Booker Prize. And now Doug has founded The Cuba Street Garret here in Wellington.

He has written freelance articles (Does anyone have a spare copy of Tucson Lifestyle?), a play or three, short stories, two novels, and has just learned that the biography he has been working on for two years has been 'killed' as a project, so feel free to listen to him, but maybe don't sit too close to him.

Born in New York City, raised in southern California, lived in San Francisco for nearly twenty years, but prefers Wellington and New Zealand as his home now.

Sure, I'll add it to the top.

Hello to you too, cinnamon.quill, look forward to meeting you at the Verve, although I won't be able to make it until after 4pm - I'm doing a scriptwriting course all day, an attempt to hone my skills for next year's Script Frenzy :-)
I hope the planning is going well, I should probably do some of that myself!

I finally came up with a vague premise last night. WIN!

A script writing course? I am very jealous!

I'm still chewing over a few ideas, but hey, we've got a couple of days - I'm hoping a plot will fall into place by then!
There might still be space on the Script Writing course, it's at Victoria University and starts on Saturday. Details are on their website - www.victoria.ac.nz/ceed/personal/

Right, I think it's time to actually think about what I'm going to do in this mad month ahead!

can't wait! I work til 5.30, but I'm only up on Cuba St so it shouldn't take long to get down ... how long do you reckon people will be hanging around Borders for?

Gah, this is so exciting! I'm glad there are meetings and such in Wellington, that's super cool. I'm definitely there, provided nothing drastic happens before then xD

Hey all. This is my first Nano experience. I'd love to come on Friday but unfortunately I'll be stuck at work until much later (which quite frustrating as I actually work on Lambton). Hope it all goes well!

I need to read things more carefully. Saturday could work. I will try to get down to Gloria Jeans.

Well, I guess at least an hour to try and meet those latecomers, maybe longer if lots of people are hanging around.

Hi, I would love to meet all you guys tomorrow, but I am in a show at the momeht, so by the time I come down from up the Kapiti Coast, and then turn round to be in makeup at 6pm, it probably isn't going to be possible. Good wishes to everyone starting off - I've nev er done this before, so am looking forward to all the support and feedback going.

Great meeting guys. Hope I managed to talk to everyone, sorry if I missed you. Nothing like a good kick off to get you motivated.

Woohoo! I now have managed to successfully (depending on your interpretation of success) include the homosexual, necrophile ducks! *dances gleefully*
