Typically we're a fairly quiet region, but thought I'd say hello and see if anyone was keen for a catch up of any kind during November. I'll be around, and am not working, always keen to meet other writers, so let me know if anyone is interested.

Hi there! Sorry for the slow reply, I don't check these forums very much, though I imagine I'll be on here a bit more frequently as the month progresses.

You might have to move to our street then m'dear - from memory me 'n the Dragon live on the same street. We should rename it.

So great to see you back! Yay, I was hoping you'd pop up (I used to be vyll, but changed the name to fit with where I'm at on the net now!). Are we going to organize some catch ups during the month? I might even be able to swing some sans children hehe

That would be wicked - I found the Sunday afternoon write-ins very helpful last time we did that - must have been 2006 when I was hugely pregnant.

I'm working 11 - 3 during the week, but can juggle some evening or weekend time.

I *even* know what I'm going to be writing this time! *faints*

lol excellent!

Yeah it was 2006 the last time I did any write ins, even though I only made it to like, 1 or 2 I think! Weekends are probably best for me :-)

Writer's-Cramp Road eh? ;)

A meet up would probably be good for me, I need to socialise more! As for when, provided I can get up, any time is good for me. Surely there are more than just the three of us? *Peers around.*

Lucky you, Taonga, I don't know what I'm going to write about this year! I've considered several ideas, got as far as writing brief outlines for two of them, but I just don't think I'd enjoy writing them, so now I have one day to come up with something better. Ack!

Hope you come up with something soon! There is not long to go now... am hoping to have my first words on the page by this time tomorrow morning, all going well (which of course, they most likely won't be but oh well!).
Hopefully there will be some others, but we'll just have to wait and see :-) Should we try for a catch up next weekend? or do we want to do something sooner than that?

Carolyn Ann Aish is probably lurking around somewhere too. Every year, I think I'm well ahead of her word count, and every year she'll upload 20,000 words at once and blow me out of the word soup!

Is anyone up for coffee tomorrow? I'm getting a start right on midnight tonight - would be nice to get a double-dose of word count out of the way in one day!

I haven't decided on the age level for what I'm writing yet. Mine seem to be getting older and older every year. I have decided though that it's gonna be victorian-style steampunk, but set in colonial New Zealand. I've been doing a tonne of family genealogy in the last couple of years, so I have a heap of source material, and a few twisty ideas. Not sure if I can wring 50,000 words out of that, but there's always padding to do!

Steampunk is good fun, so I like the sound of that, Taonga. Myself, I've settled on an amalgamation of settings, mostly fantasy and steampunk, set in a world where there are no oceans, and the continents are held up by a grid of spiderweblike, colossal metal girders.

Ooooh - that sounds like my kinda story :-)

My last story was very realist, so I needed a break out. I'm usually a magic realism kinda gal, but fascinated with steampunk right now.

You might like the Chung Kuo stories that my hubby is ploughing through at the moment.

What does your world do for water? If there are no oceans, there's no rain?

There's rain, plenty of cloud layers both above the continents, and below! I'm drawing my inspiration mostly from a setting some online acquaintances and I discussed last year sometime, and I can't accurately remember most of it. I only decided on it some 30 minutes before midnight, and my character was equally as spontaneous. (Now I just need a plot!) ;)

Bah - who needs a plot!

One year, I think I borrowed one of Cassie's characters and stuck him in my story to see what he would do. It's awesome being able to experiment.

Heh, yeah. I told myself "oh well, who needs a plot in the first thousand words anyway?" It's working so far!

lol great to see that you guys have some words on the board already! I went to sleep at like 10pm, but then my phone beeped (twitter message) just after midnight and I had a really hard time getting back to sleep! I wish i'd just left the laptop in the bedroom, I woulda been better off getting some words down....

Am visiting my little brother's family to see the new babe this morning, then lunch at my Mum's after that, but if you want to catch up this afternoon I could swing it I think - am well overdue some time to myself! (I say that now... I may very well have the baby with me though as she's teething and having an anti-Dad phase).

Hmmmmm - or perhaps this evening?

My lovely man just reminded me that we're helping out with someone's garden working bee from 2.30 pm, and then they're hosting a pot luck dinner for Beltane - we'll need to be home from that around 7 pm so the kids aren't zombies for school tomorrow.

Does that work any better? Could come to my place if that's any help.

You surviving out there, Dragon??

Stop writing J.C! I'm trying to catch you up and the goal posts keep moving :-)

Am in agony - pulled something in my hand over the weekend shifting furniture, and typing is not fun.

I'm surviving! Just broke 3000 words, so it seems I'm keeping with the minimum words per day, just.

I can hear the cogs turning from here *grin*

I'm astonished that I've just hit my quota for today and it's only just after 8 pm! I have to be sensible now and do some blah paperwork for an important meeting tomorrow.

Awwww, poooor JC - she was leading us when she logged off, and now we're ahead ;-)
