Greetings everyone, old friends and new. Looks like it's about that time again.

My name is Paul - I'm a 39 year old archivist and history professor. This will be my 3rd year with NaNo. I've had a couple of books published and am looking to submit this year's NaNo novel for a contest in February, so I'm looking forward to getting started and trading encouragement back and forth with you all.

I usually write historical fiction set at least 100 years ago, but this year's story will be a bit different. I suppose it's technically historical fiction . . . it will be a fictionalized memoir of my awkward transition from public school to private school and back again when I was 13-14 years old in the 1980s. I've been collecting anecdotes from my friends and a lot of weird events (good and bad) are flooding back. It should make for a lively novel. I'm hoping to make it something BASED on actual events, but somewhat universal in that the moments should be recognizable to anyone. I don;t know if I can pull that off.

As for write-ins, some of us will be working Wednesday nights, 6:30-10pm at Cool Beanz coffee shop in Rock Island (30th Street and 14th Avenue). Anyone who wants to come is welcome. If you have plans for marathon sessions on the 1st, let me know. I should be free after noon.

Cheers. 11 days and counting. Get those outlines together! :-)

Paul

Sadly, I doubt I'll find time to come up to the QC and write... not having a laptop also hampers that. Good to know I'm not the only one in the area writing. Hopefully, I can find a Nano-er close by. I'm not quite sure I can do this thing, it's my first year.

Hi, Paul...Margi and I for the last two years have covered Rock Island County (and 5 others) from Kewanee...this year we are no longer ML's and our friend, Cheri, a co-ML from Peoria is trying to cover our region and hers, but is desperately in need a of a co-ML for our area...would you consider it? Please contact Cheri in Peoria if you can help...

Yes, please let me know if you're interested in co-MLing! And, it looks like you already have some solid write-ins lined up, Paul? If so, I can put them on the calendar (once I get it going...looks like tomorrow night) if I have the details---location, address & phone (if you have them) of the location, date, times and anything else pertinent...such as, I will be the guy in the NaNoWriMo hoodie, or I have a purple mohawk, or I will have a sign reading "will write for coffee" ---something to that effect. ;o) You get the idea...

Thanks for linking me to this thread, Alice!

I know a lot of Wrimos who've successfully written 50,000 words by hand! So, I have faith that you can DO THIS THING!!

I'm a little geographically challenged...how far is Monmouth from Kewanee? Peoria? We'll have plenty of events through the month, so if you live close enough, we'd love to have you join us!

Another idea if you want to write with others is to write at the library (bring a flash drive) and post online (or post on your libraries bulletin board, drag a friend along...) that you're looking for writing buddies.

Good luck!!

I was glad to see the sign in the window of Cool Beanz. Hope to see others there.

Monmouth is about one hour south of the QC and an hour and half northeast of Peoria (approximately). I don't really have a car, though, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get to any meetings at all. Not a lot of power to do things, since I'm sixteen. I would love love love love love to have somebody close by to function as a writing buddy. Sadly, I'll just stick it out my self. (Eep!) We'll see how I do. If I can make it to an event, I will try my hardest. Not sure that I'll be able to go to any of them though, between college visits, the fall play, and school work. (I have a research paper due the second week of December. NOT GOOD).

Good to see I'm not alone, though!

I'm at Monmouth College right now, so I know how you feel about kinda being out in the middle of nowhere for group writes and I definitely hear what you're saying about having so much stuff to do that it's ridiculous.
If you want a close writing buddy that's participating in NaNo too, well, hi :)

Well hi, Monmouth College buddy. Person. Thing.
I have been so busy, it's not even funny. I have 573 words. Yeah. 573 after a week. NOT GOOD
