Hey there Kootenay Peeps!

Nano starts on a Sunday this year, so we'll be sweating out those first couple pages together at one of our traditional Sunday Write-Ins. Momentum is so important, as is the group support factor, so don't miss this.

The first one will be Nov 1 at 1 pm at Common Grounds in Castlegar. This is in the plaza that has the big Dairy Queen sign right on the highway. Bring your laptops if you have 'em. We'll spend the first half hour introducing ourselves and our work-in-progress, then plug in and get to work. If you don't have a lap-top, see if you can borrow one and email the work you get done to yourself.

We usually switch between Nelson and Castlegar places to meet, and we'll decide at the end of this meeting where the next one will be.

Looking forward to typing with you,

Aurora/Bonne

Hoping to join you. I have some naughty cowboys that need to be rounded up, and I've been neglecting them.

Okay, I give up. After some deliberations and a large amount of bribing my SuperEgo with halloween chocolates, I have given myself permission to do it again this year. I'll be there on Sunday guys.

xoxo

P.S. I'm planning on coming earlier than 1pm, and anyone who's skipping church/doesn't need to drive in from Nelson is free to come keep me company/hog the other loveseat in the corner with me.

OK Guys! Here's the challenge!

Everyone coming to our first write-in, bring a ONE SENTENCE summary of your story. Try to get it in 30 words or less. This is a great excercise as it gives you an 'elevator pitch' for your story and also helps keep you on track while you're writing the thing!

Happy writing!

Crap.

That means I have to know what I'm writing by that point?

I just joined tonight, and have not really thought this whole idea through, but it seems like an excellent experiment to undertake and challenge myself. I am not sure I can get to Castlegar this Sunday, but perhaps a later write-in.

Now that I have joined I need to determine what I am going to write about. I hit the submit button before even having a clue about what idea I will be expanding on.

Good luck to everyone!

Jeremie

My advice to you:

Read this article http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/art/snowflake.php tonight

Tomorrow do the first two steps. That way at least you'll know where you're going!

Everyone has different things that work for them, but chances of success are much improved when there's something to shoot for

Have fun writing, and I hope to meet you at a meet up!

Whew! Good thing I'll be writing on the plane, and unable to provide my one-sentence summary! Yikes! (Do run-on sentences of 200+ words count?)

Yes. Yes they do.

P.S. Midnight start time for novel writing plan was foiled by, get this, a guy with a crush on me(!) who spent the whole night hanging out with me and at one point, serenading me with truly beautiful classical guitar moves. *swoons*

I am now trying to work on my snowflake, before I fall asleep so I can be at chuch cuz I promised him I'd be there, lol.

It was good! We have no less than three Mother/Teenage Son combinations in the group, which is too cool! My son was the only guy last year. Total of nine people, all of whom apparently rock. Quite a few 'seat of the pants' style writers, which is brave beyond all reckoning in my opinion! Lots of cool ideas flowing. Rock on!

Wow, that's very cool. When I was there, I was the only guy. I still think it's funny that out there you've got a load of people writing and here I am in Penticton and there's me and one other guy. We did do a write-in yesterday, so that's something, but...just funny. It's good to see everyone putting up good numbers too. Go team Kootenay :D

Wow! What a great write-in yesterday! To know that Brad and I will be writing with such a fun and supportive group has, I know, given me an extra push. I can't wait to see you all again next week!

I posted my synopsis on my novel info page...still working on my 30 word sentence summary! I promise Bonne, I will have my homework done next week!! Ha ha!

Hey, Skylar -- I used to be the only East Kootenays one in the group....back when I was writing in from Gray Creek. Now I write from California, but this is still my regional group. They're the best, and I couldn't even think of doing NaNo without them!

*sniffles a bit as she recalls Bonne and Viv's buck up, you can bounce back from being 30k behind everyone else and still win' speech*

I believe the vancouver online chat http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=dc6275c0626e358b7b397470a08ca344&serv... and their wordwar system, coupled with my awesome awesome supportive (when I had such little support elsewhere) ladies are what got me through despite being clinically depressed.

There is nothing more powerful than the small but tightly *ahems* knit.. write-in group. And yea, I still think 9 is small, in the good way. As long as no one gets lost in a crowd, like in 25+ groups.. we can Rock on!, in Bonne's words.

K.

P.S. Even though we never met, missing you kate! Keep writing.

I've learned in these past two years that people don't have to physically "meet" to become friends and helpmates. This group is proof positive of that! Here we are again, some of us for the third year in a row, some for the second, and some for their very first, and we're bonded...definitely.

Now that I'm back home from numerous time zones and historical and infamous places, I'm busy trying to catch up on my sleep so my words start to make sense again. I woke up this morning with the alarm clock, not knowing whether it was morning or night, or even where I was...looking forward to writing again with you all!

Where's the meet-up this weekend? I will join virtually!

Missing you too, Constance! Keep on listening to Bonne and Viv -- I know I do!!!

Thought I'd give y'all an update.
You can see my wordcount's pretty low. Not too low to catch up, mind you, but pretty low. My story was/is going great, but I've been sick sick sick. So sick that yesterday I couldn't even get up off the couch. I'm feeling a little less exhausted, but I have a Mother of sore throats, and both cold sweats and flash fevers. I think I might be able to get some writing done today.

Is it wrong that I don't want to go to the hospital to get checked out for fear they make me stay? (ie, separated from my laptop, lol)

Chillin out at home,

K.

Reminder of the write-in tomorrow at Common Grounds again.

Can someone print off a "writer's at work" poster to bring along with us? They're under 'fun stuff' on the home page.

See you tomorrow!

How long are you going to be at the Common Grounds? I work in Nelson until 2, but I'd like to come meet some other people doing this. It's my first year, so I could use some inspiration!

Hey Pixiecat,

Normally we write from 1 to 3, but my son will be there later typing away. My daughter is having her birthday party tomorrow, so I won't be there much of the time, but will pick him up around 4ish so I may get to meet you! We'll probably do the next write-in in Nelson since the first two have been here, so think about a good place to do it.

You can do it!

I think I'm going to skip this weeks meet-up, I just got off of work now and I would still need to drive out there, but I'll be around next week for sure - happy writing everyone!

Wish I could be there. Have had a helluva week workwise, and so I have to play catchup on the word count in a serious way this weekend.

I'll pretend I'm there with the rest of you!
