Coventry always gets a bit over shadowed by Birmingham seeing as we're so close so I though I'd post to tempt fellow Coventry people out of the woodwork. Maybe you've lived here all your life? Or maybe you study at one of the two universities? Or maybe you live nearby in places such as Leamington Spa or Kenilworth (or other places near by that my knowledge of geography doesn't cover!)

If there's enough interest we could maybe do our own meet up at some point? Or at least we can chat about our Nanos and the wonder of Coventry.

Anyway I'm Gary and currently live in Canley. I know, not the most glamourous place. I lived in Earlsdon last year, and Leamington the year before. I won't do a whole big into as there's a general thread for that, but I though I'd get a Coventry board up to say hi.

I live in Leam at the moment - on the introduction board I'm sure I saw at least a couple of others who were from Leamington too, there must be a few more Coventry-area folk lurking :)

I work in Cov, Land of Concrete, and may be able to make a meet-up if you're getting a bunch together :)

I'm currently studying at Warwick uni, so I'm totally around. I'm living on campus at the moment, but it'll be easy enough for me to get into Coventry!

I swear there were more around last year. I never posted but saw a Coventry thread that had quite a few posts!

But I'm glad I'm not the only one in Coventry doing it!

I went to Warwick myself for two years, though I quit last year because I was fed up with computers! And yeah the number 12 bus goes straight into town from campus.

Hi folks
I'm based in Earlsdon, so happy to meet up somewhere - Caterinana (sp?) and I organised a mini meet up at Borders coffeeshop at the Rico last year, maybe do the same this year?
I did Nano last year, but didn't finish until mid December so technically lost but actually won on every other level. Still, it'd be nice to finish this year!
Best wishes

I'm in Coventry and would like to give it a go this year. I 'won' SoFoBoMo (Solo Photobook Month) this year - and ended getting the resulting photobook professionally published. However, I always thought I'd get a novel published first!

I've no idea what I'm going to write about though, although I've got a few ideas, so... :)

Heya, I'm from Nuneaton. which is near enough to Cov lol.

I'd be up for a meet depending on what time it is and whether i have any cash.

Hi
I live in Ikea in Cov... Well, fairly close ;)
Went to Warwick Uni for three years, went back to Sussex for a year then got dragged back by my partner wanting to do a PhD!
Working in Birmingham now Which I much prefer to when I worked in Cov. Now I just get the train in... In Cov I had to get a bus and buses make me horribly bus-sick :(

Hi CaterinaAnna!! Long time, no see! Hope you're ok!

Well, there seems to be interest in a meet-up - suggest one saturday or sunday at the coffee shop in Borders at the Riccoh?

Last year, we wore baseball caps so we could recognise each other! :-)

Best wishes

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for trying to set up your own write-ins. It's great that people do this so that people who can't get to the main Birmingham ones still get to go to one. :)

I would like to request that you try not to schedule them at the same time as the official ones though. Obviously if Saturday afternoon is the only time that you can all do then please feel free. But if there is another day that you can do could you pick that one instead.

Thanks
Lily

Hi HJ: of course I remember - the baseball cap's not been out since though!

Let's see if we can get organised a bit earlier this year - what are we looking at?

Weekday evening or/& Sundays (but not the 1st) so as not to clash with the Birmingham ones.

Somewhere that:
- is open on Sundays or/and late enough on weekdays to allow most of us to get there (the coffee shops I can think of shut at 5 or 6, and some people would be just finishing work by then)
- might have a socket or two
- serves coffee (that rules out several pubs & noise would rule out many others)
- would be willing to tolerate us.

Town might be the best area to aim for, given we are on all sides of the city*, but that does depend on how easily people can travel. As I remember it, the reason we went to the Ricoh last year was because someone from Holbrooks, who had no transport, hoped to join us.

Can someone make an offer/suggestion based on those criteria? (What were you saying about IKEA, jiminternet?)

*eta we seem to have
5 on the Earlsdon/Warwick Uni/Leamington No 12 bus axis
3 to the north
1 in the city centre
2 in unspecified parts of Coventry

All I mentioned was that I live near ikea. Although they do have a big restaurant area that does free tea and coffee to card holders on weekdays (and cheap to others. And unlimited refills I think. Though I don't drink coffee.

I'm temporarily under lock in though due to "flu-like symptoms" so can't wander up and investigate further :(

So what do people think? City Centre? Weekday early evening maybe? I don't like to make decisions on other people's behalfs! But I would like some Coventry write ins as I think my work schedule will eliminate any Saturday write ins.

I'm a Coventry NaNo-er. I love that there are other people from here doing it - it's terribly exciting!

I don't know if I'd be able to make it to a write-in or anything, but it's great that it's being organised.

For the record, I'm right on the outskirts, next to Stoneleigh. It'd be a 15 bus for me :)

Hi folks
Don't know if people might just fancy coming here to my house, having tea/biscuits here? I'm a bit busy this week, but maybe agree a date sometime next week to meet up? We can then whinge about how our various word-counts are stacking up..!
All in favour, say "Aye" - preferably with dates they can make. Unfortunately, we'll inevitably lose people who can't make one day or another - apologies in advance for that, but I think it will be the nature of the beast..
Best wishes
Jon

sorry but i'm always weary of finding peoples houses and i always get lost
but still how about Wednesday in town center i am sure we can find a coffee shop that will have us (i think the gadiver statue is a bit crowded hehe) but i'm not from Coventry so i don't know any of the shops except that giant primart

so anyway 11th November, meet at (godiver statue/insert coffee shop here) at say 2pm?? or later depending on work?

Hi all

I'm going to suggest 2 dates for a get-together, because some people seem to prefer week days and some people prefer weekends:

Wed 11 November 2009 at 8pm, at my house (Earlsdon) - Nanomail me for directions, I don't really want to put them on a public web page

and

Sunday 22 November 2009 at 2pm at Borders Bookshop coffee bar at the Rico Arena

Obviously these are dates that fit in with my diary, hopefully other people can make one/both of these. I will be good to get together, have a chat, compare word counts and generally talk about writer-ly stuff!!

Sorry if those dates/locations don't suit people, feel free to suggest your own! Sorry Medicman, I can't make 2pm on Wed 11 Nov as it's a working day and I work in Birmingham!

Best wishes all and hope the word count is going ok (I'm stuck on a difficult chapter on mine, 7 days and only 9,000 words...hmmm

Hi, just a reminder for those folks who fancy a get together at my house (in Earlsdon) tomorrow (Wed 11 Nov), 8pm. Tea and coffee and maybe even a few biscuits! Nano-mail me for directions, we're quite easy to get to!

Also, still planning to be at the Borders Bookshop in the Ricoh at 2pm on Sunday 22 Nov, hopefully see people there! I'm going to suggest that, as last year, people wear a baseball cap (and look out for other people wearing them!!)

Best wishes

Hi folks

Just a reminder about meeting up on Sunday 22 November 2009 at 2pm at Borders Bookshop, Ricoh arena shopping complex. Bring a baseball cap, so that we'll all know which group of people is "ours".

It'd be good to meet as many people as can make it, compare war stories and word counts, hear about cliff hanger endings and sudden plot twists!

Anyone introduced the "Travelling Shovel of Death" in their novel yet??

Best wishes
Jon

PS lifts to/from Ricoh can probably be arranged, if transport is difficult
PPS Caterinanna - if you're in Earlsdon, happy to give you a lift?
