I figured our region needed its own 'I-want-to-rave-about-my-awesome-plot' thread, so here it is!
Mine is... well, I don't know what genre mine is, but that really doesn't matter at this point, right? (Though, if anyone has any ideas as to where it belongs, don't hesitate to share!)
Anyway, mine: basically this new guy moves/transfers into the main girl’s school/class/something, and he looks terribly familiar to her from the start. She begins talking to him, eventually revealing that she must have seen him somewhere before, but for a long time, he’s adamant that there’s no way that could have occurred. After some time, though, considering she’s terribly stubborn about it, he tells her the whole truth; that he was what I’m loosely calling her guardian angel, but was banished from that job and from heaven and is now human (more or less, and for what reason(s) I’m not sure yet). And everything is good for a while, until shit goes down. This, too, is still fuzzy, but perhaps… what if the others “upstairs” that he knew find out that he not only found her, but told her the whole absolute truth. That can’t be good, right?
Post yours, so that the rest of us can revell in the glory!!

Mine is generally about people who aren't happy with their lives or where their lives are going. They are unhappy and want to do something about it, only to have to live with the consequences of their actions. One character's unhappiness leads to other character's unhappiness because of his actions. I guess one metaphor is when you try to flush the toilet but it's backed up only leading to more frustration and time for something that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I would suggest either fantasy or supernatural.
As for my plot- I'm still working out a detail or two (or three or four), but this is what I've got so far: Torva is a kingdom claimed by two different courts, red and green. They have been at war for centuries, to the great detriment of the common people.
Eventually the fates curse the land, and all the people therein. They are trapped in a time loop of sorts, doomed to repeat a key two week period every year for the rest of eternity unless someone can do something to change it.
Fast forward to the present day. An archaeology major (must figure out a name) is at a dig site with her class. She sneaks away to go check out the "off-limits" area of the site. Unfortunately for her, she has wandered into the heart of the cursed area, and that day happens to be the very day that the curse re-awakens. She is caught up in it, and whirled back to the ancient kingdom.
I'm still trying to figure out what exactly she does next, but eventually she makes her way to the stronghold of the green court, the Iron Citadel. There she hooks up with a gypsy seer, Runa, and the Baroness's champion, Farren. Runa sees that the archaeologist's fate is tied up somehow with Torva's, and convinces the Baron and Baroness to loan her Farren's skills.
They get to go on a grand adventure, and try to break the curse so the archaeologist can go back to her own time, and so the people of Torva can get on with living their lives.
I know it's a bit cliche` (and anyone that's been to the Renaissance Fair will be able to see that I've based quite a bit of my story on certain parts of that event) but after nearly a decade of writers block, I'm just happy to be writing again.

Okay, I’m gonna write this without feeling awkward about my title as Fanfiction Author. ^^;
I’m writing based off the latest incarnation of the Transformers franchise, Transformers Animated. In it, each of the five main robot characters (still called Autobots) got an episode devoted to a part of their past before the series started. One of these characters is Prowl (yes, named after the 80s character, but very different personality and appearance—compare 80s Prowl versus 2007 cartoon Prowl), a ninja. In season two, it was revealed that he never actually finished his training, and in season three, this was explained—he was taken in by a sensei as an alternative to serving on his draft notice in the wars (another theme pulled from the 80s series) ravaging the Transformer world. I wanted to explore his life before the events of this episode and beyond what the series established.
Several weeks of musing later, I developed a backstory for him; thus the birth of my 2009 NaNoWriMo project: The Invictus. The title comes from the poem “Invictus” by William Henley, and is Latin for “unconquerable.”
I chose this title because of the nature of his childhood—his parents were young when he was born, his father an absentee figure in his life and his mother leaving him in the care of her father while she attended school. Her father, Prowl’s grandfather, was elderly and slowly but surely starting to become frail and ill, but still deeply loved and cared for his grandson.
The story is detailing Prowl’s life from his earliest memory to the moment he met his sensei. A lot of musing / reflection, exploration of the Transformer culture and finding ways to explain Prowl’s personality and way of doing things.
(If I was talking over your heads or if you have questions, go ahead and poke me. I’ll try to answer your questions as best I can. ^^ )

Mine is Sword & Sorcery Romance: a thief steals a gem from a temple that allows her to enter another world where the gem is taken from her. She has to get it back to return to her world, but after the trials she goes through to get it, will she want to return? I had a similar theme last year, but it was more contemporary. I do have a bonzer twist at the very end of this one.
What's making me choose 'escape' for both my NaNo themes so far, you ask? Mother of a teen! Gahhh!

I don't know what the genre of my plot is either. It's not entirely one genre, but it's not entirely another either.
Mine's about a normal 14-year-old teenage girl who is the typical teenager, but has problems dealing with some bad things of her past, no matter how small they may be. One day, she goes to sleep, and then wakes up as a 9-year-old, 5 years in the past, and she is forced to relive everything. After the initial shock passes, the girl decides to use this to her advantage and change the past to her benefit. The changes won't be so large-and-globally-scale (who'd believe her anyway?) but they will be enough to affect her life. In short, lots of cause-and-effect.
But this is all in modern times, and the only fantasy in there is the "going back as a 9-year-old" thing, so it's hard to place a genre.

Urban fantasy is a good way to describe fantasy that takes place in modern times. Mercedes Lackey does a lot of those (to wonderful effect).
My plot is surprisingly well developed for this time of year. I just started work at the hospital in Fairbanks, so this novel draws on some of my experiences as a housekeeper, with a supernatural twist.
Basically, a new housekeeper has been assigned to the mental health unit for a week, as the normal housekeeper is out sick and she's the easiest to move around (and actually likes mental health). As she arrives for the first day of the week, she encounters a combative mental patient being brought into the ward, an older gentlemen who is being committed by his family. Later that day, she goes back into lockup to clean, where he is, and he asks her name (he's settled down by now). She gives him a false name, and as she always wears her name badge flipped around on the mental ward, there's no way for him to learn her real name. He looks at her, knows she's lying, and looks into a leather journal he has with him and reads her full real name off the page.
Through a small series of trials, she determines that he's actually a prophet (or she's willing to go along with it for right now), and that's what his family put him away for: religious mania. A week passes, with her becoming friends with him. He believes she might be the one he can pass his mantle to (like Elijah to Elisha) by means of giving her the prophetic journal when she's ready. But before she's ready... 'dun dun dun'!
A Stephen King Twist!
Not going to reveal the end, especially since I just know the circumstances, not what the end actually is, but I have enough to keep me going for a long time. So I'm classifying this as horror/thriller/suspense.

Mine's pretty succinct so far. I don't outline beforehand, as I like to surprise myself with plot twist and desperately try to escape the corners I get stuck in.
Main plot = Alien war brides. On spaceships. Hijinks ensue.
I'm thinking it'll be a scifi/romance/horror.

Mine's an urban-fantasy/adventure that's not so much with the urban, about a librarian from a magic-centric parallel realm who takes a job at a remote outpost in our realm to grieve her father in peace. When she gets here, she finds a dilapidated cabin with no indoor plumbing, a bunch of overly-friendly locals, and a mystery that threatens to sever the passage between the two realms forever.
I'm feeling a little uncertain about how it all goes down, but I'm ready to write. :)

Genre: Supernatural Thriller
Poppy and Isaiah are lovers and rival artists living on a small northern pacific island. Their turbulent relationship and its mishaps awaken the ancestors, and their disapproval. In particular, one ancient entity is drawn to the negative energy put off by Poppy and Isaiahs troubled relationship and bring chaos and evil to their household. After months of poltergeist like activity the couples young son goes into a coma and the town witch doctor declares that the ancient evil entity has taken his soul to punish the parents. Poppy and Isaiah must overcome their issues of power and control within their relationship to save their son, while embarking on a physically and mentally challenging spirit quest set fourth by the elders to find the boys soul and return him home to his body so that he can live.
I've got it all outlined to chapter four. there are flashbacks to the time of contact with "western influences" when another generation was plagued by the same evil spirit because of discord in the community. So, it's kinda a historical supernatural thriller...lots of crossover there.

My plot so far involves three brothers, none of whom are saints, and at least two of which are downright slimy. One is a rapist/molester, another is paranoid and has a penchant for teenage boys, and the third is somewhat of a political activist. The story centers on one of the brothers being investigated for a rape, and the effects this has on the other two brothers. There is plenty of backstabbing and hypocrisy, culminating in a very dark climax. This story is much darker than what I wanted to write this year, but it seems to be what the muse is producing through a combination of events.

Hmmmm. I have no idea the genre of my story, as the plot only came to me the morning of Nov 1.
I have two main characters, one young adult female, ghost, one 30s or 40s something police detective. It's a bit of an alternative to life after death, centered around the theme of people learning how to leave a mark on the world that will survive them after they have died. She is lost, to an extent, attached to him, doesn't know why, doesn't care why, and while was left with only logic and philosophy (I know, a bit contradictory but I like it) to view the world from, begins to see the world through his eyes and learns how to connect again with the state of being that is called humanity, or being human, even though she remains a ghost. He is a drunk (off the clock), workaholic (again, a bit contradictory but I like the combination), loner, who lost his family due to something (haven't figured it out), lost most of his faith in the justice system and because of the changes in his attitude was demoted to being the one member of his precinct who works cold cases. From his ghostly companion he will learn to see that his job is actually fitting for him, something that he enjoys and just hadn't realized it yet, and he will learn to once again care about more than just the stories of the dead he tries to help.
His learning how to make a difference, or to recognize the difference he does make, and how to leave a legacy behind, will be the legacy that she is able to leave behind when or if she moves on. Haven't decided on that, will have to see what SHE thinks, the y like to pop into my head periodically and walk me through the happenings in their reality but not on a regular basis.
The story will explore his life as it changes and how her view of life and the world changes. I don't' know how well it will turn out as it is more of a narrative with a lot, LOT, of description of people, things, events, thoughts, reasons....but it is becoming fun to write, and who knows, maybe I'll learn a thing or two from the random and yet organized thoughts of these two characters.

My story this year is one I've been avoiding for a while because I have a deep seated fear of zombies. But it was the only idea I had the entire year, so I figured it was time to face the music and jump right in. It demands to be written.
I guess it could be classified as Horror Comedy Spoof, as tongue is planted very firmly in cheek as I write this. I didn't get as much research done beforehand as I would have liked (since zombie movies and books give me nightmares), but so be it!
Zombies are accidentally created in a lab where animals are used to test beauty products for safe usage. As the infection spreads, Wendy "Wicked" Williams discovers that zombies don't eat blondes. Naturally born blondes, that is. So it is up to the natural blondes of the world to band together and save the world from the zombie apocalypse. As long as they don't break a nail in the process.
The ending is going to be as ridiculous as I can possibly make it. I've gotten some great ideas from my fellow writers and I'm having a hard time deciding which way to go. I guess I'll wait and find out when I get there! It'll be full of squiddly-doom and green blood, I assure you!

Sly is a woman with an odd talent for fixing things from a small Midwest town. Her simple dreams of running her repair business and watching out for her two brothers and wayward father are suddenly dashed when she is "kidnapped" by a group of people who call themselves XORDS, and she is told that she is one of them; a human born with unexplainable gifts. She is drafted into their war with a government agency intent on capturing them, testing them and then executing them. Will she fight alongside the people who accept her or will she betray them for a chance at a normal life?
