My spouse was thinking about giving Left 4 Dead a try since he enjoys a first person shooter (and recently got tired of Fallout). He was wondering if there is a monthly fee to play online, and perhaps a few good/bad points of game play, from your perspectives.

Tim, definitely waiting for your opinion here... Left 4 Dead was your "prize" for last years Nano, right?

Left 4 Dead is AWESOME!

Do you like killing zombies?
Do you like first person shooters?
It's the best of both worlds.

There's no monthly fee, it's just an FPS game, not an MMO. I've never heard of an FPS having a monthly fee before.

There's a sequel, Left 4 Dead 2 (get it?), coming out this November, I'll be picking it up, naturally. So if your spouse wants a first person co-operative zombie killing game chalk full of awesome and win, then he will want Left 4 Dead 2.

No monthly fee to play online. It's a great game, best played with up to three other people. It's pure Co-operative play, and well designed to make you stay with your pals. Getting separated means you die horribly most of the time.

As people have said, no fee for the online version.

It's a very addictive game. It's fun to play single player, but the real fun is when you play with others. Versus mode is awesome, you get to play as the zombies as well as the survivors. Your team (up to 4 people) against another 4-person team. One group plays as the survivors while the other team is playing the zombies trying to kill them. The zombies' goal is to kill the survivors before they can reach safety, the survivors' goal is to GET to safety. You go through an entire campaign switching turns with each chapter. In the finale, you're summoning an escape vehicle to rescue you. You can be trying to get gas to fuel an escape car or fending off zombies while help comes for you.

I keep gushing over it, I love it. I've been doing almost nothing but NaNo and L4D2. Actually, my NaNo writing may be suffering... ._.;; BUT I CAN GET THERE.
