First, some introductions . . .
1. Your Municipal Liaisons:
I’m unspeakable and together with Arike we’ll be your Municipal Liaisons for this year. As MLs we are here to organize events, provide support and pep talks, address your concerns, give advice and answer questions, and take on other miscellaneous duties as needed. You can get a hold of us by PM (private message) via the NaNo forum. Just find my name in one of the topics or the header in our regional lounge and click it. Then click Send NaNoMail.
And while we are on the subject of MLs, I’d like to say Thank You to Hannahk who has been Holland & Belgium’s awesomely talented co- Municipal Liaison in years past. Though she’s decided not to return to the Municipal Liaison position this year, she is still a participant, so we’ll see her around the forums and hopefully some of her cartoons too
2. Affiliation and setting your Home region!
- Be sure you are affiliated with Europe:: Holland & Belgium and set it as your home region.
Go to My NaNoWriMo then on the left click on My Regions
You should be in the Regions directory
Search for Holland & Belgium and click on Affiliate
- Set Europe::Holland & Belgium as your Home Region
- Introduce yourself to the other regional Wrimos in the ‘Stel jezelf voor!’ thread
3. Parties and Write-Ins
As your MLs we are responsible for organizing the Kick-Off Party and the TGIO party (more info on the latter when the time comes). This year our Kick-Off Party will be held on October 31st at the Florin in Utrecht. It’s a chance to meet some of your fellow Wrimos, talk plot, novels, bunnies and just about anything else that might come up. Afterwards there will be a Midnight Write, for those who are interested, to kick off our month of noveling insanity. Besides the parties there are also plenty of Write-Ins during November. Write-ins are the events where you get together with your fellow Wrimos to work on your books. Wrimos meet, writing implements (laptops, notebooks and pen, etc.) close at hand, and work on their novels for a couple of hours together. It sounds counterintuitive, but the creative energy generated by getting Wrimos together – even when working on your own projects – must be felt to be believed. For more information about Write-Ins check this thread.

4. The Golden Sun
The most active and frequently-visited part of the NaNoWriMo website is the forums. Here’s where you can post items of local interest, take part in secret missions, ask questions, boast about passing 50k ect. Most of you will have noticed the little golden sun at the top of our Regional Lounge though. This means that this area is PG13 (all-ages.) Outside of our Regional Lounge there are a host of forums where you can ask questions and discuss things such as tentacle porn. But since I’d rather not have to explain to any overwrought parents, that is if one actually can explain tentacle porn, please keep all things alien sex, extreme profanity and/or other overtly graphic matters in the appropriate forum sections.
5. Language
Though the majority of people in our region are Dutch speakers, we’ve got quite a few international Wrimos here as well. Like your novel you can write your posts in English or Dutch, whatever you are comfortable with. As MLs we will try and post translations of our most important regional emails on the forums.
6. Donations
Participating in NaNoWriMo is completely free. However the costs involved in making this international event the awesomeness that it is and keeping it that way is substantial. As such we encourage everyone who is able to make a donation. If you look on the site you’ll find various information on donating to NaNoWriMo and where the money goes if you’ve done so. You’ll also see that you’ll be able to make a donation even when you’re broke.
If you do not have a credit card, you might be able to donate by PayPal. Jarsto has written a tutorial here. Also at the Kick-Off Party and several of the Write-Ins there will be a donation box, for those who would like to donate NaNoWriMo.

An alternative forum: Omdat het regionale forum nog steeds geen volledige functionaliteit heeft en omdat de NaNo site de eerste week vaak supertraag of zelfs onbereikbaar is, heeft Sahi ook een NL/BE forum buiten de site om geopened dat sneller en overzichtelijker is maar net zo leuk en gezellig!
For those of you on Twitter our region now has a Twitter account. Here your ML will try and post updates, prompts and sensible things in 140 characters or less.
On Schrijvenonline a Dutch Wrimo will be keeping a blog NaNoWriMo, and they also have forum.
8. Operatie Hutspot
Last year our region managed to get into the top 5 of wordiest NaNoWriMo regions. An achievement we hope to reach again this year. Be sure stop by our Operatie Hutspot thread, where we’ll be discussing strategies, and encouraging each other on the way to leaving all other Regions behind in the race for the most words.

Welkom bij een nieuw jaar van de geweldige, gekke uitdaging die NaNoWriMo heet! Ik hoop dat iedereen er net zoveel zin in heeft als ik! Hier is een gids met wat informatie over onze regio zodat iedereen die nieuw is of terugkeert hier makkelijk de informatie kan vinden die ze zoeken.

Allereerst, een voorstelrondje...
1. Je Municipal Liaisons:
Ik ben unspeakable, en Arike en ik zijn jouw Municipal Liaisons dit jaar. Wij zijn er als MLs voor om dingen te organiseren, steun te bieden en peptalks, klachten te behandelen, advies te geven en vragen te beantwoorden, en om overige dingen op te pakken. Je kan ons bereiken via PM (privébericht) via het nanoforum: zoek simpelweg mijn naam in het forum of de header in onze regionale lounge en klik erop. Klik dan op 'Send NaNoMail'.
En als we het toch over MLs hebben, wil ik graag dank je wel zeggen tegen HannahK, die de geweldige getalenteerde co-Municipal Laison is geweest van Nederland en België in de afgelopen jaren. Alhoewel ze besloten heeft niet terug te keren naar de ML positie dit jaar, doet ze nog steeds mee en zoen we haar en haar cartoons hopelijk terug op het forum.

Stel jezelf voor aan andere regionale Wrimo's in de “Stel jezelf voor!” draad.
3. Feestjes en Write-ins
Als je MLs zijn wij verantwoordelijk voor het organiseren van de Kick-Off Party en het TGIO feest (later meer over dit laatste). Dit jaar wordt onze Kick-Off op 31 oktober gehouden in het Florin in Utrecht. Hier is de gelegenheid om je mede-Wrimo's te ontmoeten, over je verhaal, boeken en ideeen te praten, en over vanalles en nog wat. Daarna is er de middernachtelijke schrijfsessie, voor mensen die het leuk vinden, om onze maand van schrijverige gekheid te beginnen. Meer informatie over de Kick-Off kan hier gevonden worden, en over de Midnight Write-in hier.
Naast deze feestjes zijn er genoeg andere Write-ins, schrijfsessies, tijdens November. Write-ins worden georganiseerd zodat je samen met andere Wrimo's aan je boek kan werken. Je ontmoet elkaar, met schrijfspullen (laptops, notitieblokken en pennen, etc.) bij de hand, en werkt samen aan je boek voor een paar uur. Het klinkt misschien paradoxaal, maar de creatieve energie die loskomt door de Wrimo's die samenkomen – zelfs als je aan je eigen ding werkt – moet je ervaren hebben om te geloven. 4. De gouden zon
Het meest actieve en veelbezochte onderdeel van de NaNoWriMo website is het forum. Hier kan je dingen die van lokaal belang zijn posten, deelnemen in geheime missies, vragen stellen, juichen bij het halen van de finish line, enz. Veel van jullie zullen dat gouden zonnetje dat bovenaan onze regio staat gezien hebben. Dat wil zeggen dat dit forum voor alle leeftijden is. Buiten de regionale lounge zijn er een hele hoop andere fora waar je vragen kan stellen en zulke dingen kan bespreken als een tentakel fetish. Maar aangezien we dit liever niet aan oversture ouders willen uitleggen als zoiets hier gepost wordt, hou daarom sex met aliens, extreem vloeken en/of andere erg grafische dingen in de daarvoor bestemde fora.
5. Taal
Alhoewel de meerderheid van de mensen in onze regio Nederlandstaligen zijn, hebben we een behoorlijk aantal internationale Wrimo's die hier ook komen. Net zoals je boek kan je daarom posten in Engels of Nederlands, wat je het prettigst vind. Als MLs zullen we proberen vertalingen van onze regionale emails op het forum te posten.
6. Donaties.
Er zijn geen kosten verbonden aan meedoen met NaNoWriMo. Toch kost het wel wat om dit internationale evenement zo geweldig mogelijk te maken en om het zo te houden. Als zodanig moedigen we iedereen aan die daartoe in staat is om een donatie te maken. Als je op de site kijkt zul je verschillende manieren vinden om te doneren, en ook waar het geld naartoe gaat. Je zult zien dat je zelfs kan doneren als je blut bent.
Als je geen credit card hebt, kun je doneren via PayPal, en Jarsto heeft een geweldige tutorial geschreven. Ook op de Kick-off en verschillende Write-ins zal er een donatiedoos staan, voor mensen die graag mee willen doneren aan NaNoWriMo.

Naast de NaNoWriMo website is er ook een blog en Twitter.

Voor degenen die Twitteren, onze regio doet nu ook aan Twitter: hier zal je ML updates proberen te posten, promts neer te zetten en zinnige dingen te zeggen in minder dan 140 tekens.
Op Schrijvenonline zal een Nederlandse schrijver die deelneemt een blog bijhouden over NaNoWriMo, en ze hebben ook een forum.
8. Operatie hutspot
----------Vorig jaar is het onze regio gelukt in de top 5 van meest woord-spuwende regio's te komen. Een prestatie die we dit jaar willen herhalen. Check zeker onze Operatie Hutspot draad, waar we strategieen bespreken, en elkaar aanmoedigen om alle andere regio's achter ons te laten in de race om de meeste woorden.
