Hi, I'm a newbie here, never done this before.
I was thinking about how much time it would actually take to write 50000 words.
I figured out roughly how long it might take me.
Lets see....I type about 50-80 words a minute(I know huge lee-way)
If I was slow and only had the strength to type 50 words a minute then I would be typing about 3000 words an hour.
If I was fast and typing about 80 words a minute then I would be typing about 4800 words an hour.
so... my what I figured out it would take me between about 10 - 20 hours of solid typing to type 50000 words.
I am thinking that I actually have about four to five hours of spare time daily, at least, at home usually.
So all I really have to do is forgo watching TV for a while and just type away for at least 20 minutes to an hour everyday.
What do you all think, how much actual time do you think you would need to just be physically able to write 50000 words???

I did the caclulation once, and yes it's like 10 - 20 hours of actual writing. So, less than an hour a day depending on your typing speed.
But, most of the time "writing" in NaNoWriMo isn't actually just straight writing... unless you're some kind of magical fast typing robot. Most of the time is spent "I don't know what to writre"ing, or other forms of procrastonating.
Usually taking 1 hour a day to just plain write is enough for me... though I usually set aside 1 hour and end up taking more because I'm so enwrapped in my story / want to finish this elaborate fight scene so I can get to the NEXT fight scene.

Of course you have to account for thinking time unless you have a story planned out. If you have it all planend then you could complete NaNo in a weekend. Hell a lot of people spend half that time playing games like World of Warcraft in a weekend ;)

I can usually get my word count done in four or five 15-minute word wars a day - less if I'm especially focused and productive. It goes by a lot faster than you'd think.

Go with the flow! Seriously!
Last year I didn't think I'd finish NaNoWriMo, and I was able to complete two stories, and start a third, and got over 100,000 words.
This year, I know I can't make that high again because I am way to busy. I have practice for a play till 6:30 two days a week, riding two days a week, plus homework. I'll be lucky if I can get 1000 in the week days.
But seriously, just let your creativity go and write write write.

I am a slow typer (if last years word wars have anything to say about it). Last year I typed for about 40 minutes at work, and then maybe another hour at home (procrastination in between or waiting for word wars put aside). So lets say it takes me about a hour and a half a day, I was finished on the 22nd... So, approx 33 hours to write 50k...
But I agree, without procrastination it just wouldn't be the same. A lot of my time (except writing during my breaks at work) is as follows...
Write a paragraph, chat with friends, check email, write another paragraph, check forum, chat friends, write 3 lines, realize that my worldbuilding sucks, spend 15 - 30 minutes rebuilding "broken" world, chat with friends, finish writing paragraph, chat with friends wait for word war, write paragraph and a half, check word count, sob and cheer at the same time.
Strangely, this "schedule" looks like an extremely fun way to spend an evening ^__^ ... By the Gods, what does that say about me?!
