I'm just posting a little survey type thing to satisfy my own curiosity, but maybe other people are interested too :)

As for me, I'm writing a Science Fiction novel about a couple of earthlings who get stranded on a planet (actually a moon of a gas giant) that was colonized and abandoned several hundred years before. They know a comet is heading for the planet, but they have to convince the technologically-regressed natives that they need to evacuate the area of the original colony in order to avoid getting caught in the aerial blast that will result...

What are all you folks writing this year?

I'll be doing quite a bit of homoerotica fiction, about three fictions, as well as working on a small collection of poetry I've been meaning to write.

My novel is a thriller/Chiller/Horror Supernatural type thing. Imagine if james Herbert wrote the TV series Heroes. It would be along that sort of line.

Mine is kind of a realistic fiction/science fiction story about the start of a nuclear war and the life of a girl who has to adjust to the conflict as well as the loss of her best friend and roommate, which is a direct result of the war. That's the short version, anyway. It will likely sound different by the end of November.

That's.... disturbiing. I approve *thumbs up*

My story is a psychological thriller/ horror/ supernatural novel about a man who is followed by a boy in a black jacket, and as a result, strts losing track of the distinction between reality and fiction.

Being some what of a geek I'm writing fantasy...

The story follows the early life of Tyriseus, a young half elf, as he grows up in a xenophobic stronghold located on the frontiers of a young kingdom and called simply; the Keep. Despite being the product of a violent rape, his devastated mother and her new husband Hektor, the renowned warrior and captain of the Keep's guards, decide to raise the child as their own. The people grudgingly accept the youth due to the Captain's protection but whenever Tyriseus finds himself alone he must find a way to endure and survive the often violent enmity cast his way. Faced with many obstacles, he attempts to prove to himself and everyone else that he is a useful member of the community. Shortly after his twelfth birthday, a chance meeting with an elf reveals to Tyriseus an opportunity to discover the identity of his elven father and leads to the unveiling of a hidden talent. The elf sends an old man to test and train this talent but the man himself carries with him a powerful secret. While Tyriseus is struggling to discover himself and to avenge his mother, the secret drags him into a deadly conflict that threatens to destroy everything and everyone he cares for.’

I'm doing a re-write of last years with a much better plot and slightly different character cast.

Hmmm, perhaps I should rather say, I'm writing a better book about last years main characters...

Either way my story follows a young demoness who saves the second son of a lord from assasination. The lord's son takes her into his keep and his life, introducing her to his best friend, a man he is obsessed with. The demoness avoids the issue for as long as she can, but eventually falls in love with the best friend. However, demons are feared and hated making their love impossible. When the best friend confesses his growing feelings as well and they get together, the obsessed lord is angry at the percieved betrayal by his friend. Blaming the demoness, he imprisions her. Then the lord's eldest son dies, making the second son the heir, a job he never wanted and a responsibility he resents. His sanity failing and angry at the demoness's apparent freedom to leave an untenable situation if she wishes, he tells his friend that he'll banish her but tries to kill her instead. Saved by her love, they begin a run to the next country where they have been offered amnesty by the ruler. Will they get there, both surviving to make a home for themselves? What other treacheries does the lord's new heir have in store for the object of his obsession?

This is definately a Dark Fantasy. If this outline seems confusing, forgive me since I'm quite tired. I have a better one (With character names!) up on my home page.

I am going to try a romance this year, as it's the only thing I have never attempted to write before. There shall, of course, be pirates. Because what is a romance without the pirates? Not a romance at all, that is what I say!

Mine is about a guy who produces a one-man show that is nothing but bile-strewn rage at how stupid and broken people are these days.

Semi-autobiographical. I'd label it self-help, but really this book won't help anyone.

Except me, maybe.

My novel is changing every hour, really.

A girl is gifted magically, so that she's able to change into a seal. She's got an affinity with the water element. There's a walrus that's involved, and a pale-faced boy. She and the boy like each other. Pirates enter the equation. Much teen angst, the searching of oneself, betrayal, and more magic are involved.
I'm still working out the major plot holes, or trying too before the starting line comes! :) But all in all it's coming together really well.

Pretty good for something based off a dream. :)

Basically, I am restarting one I started last year. A seemingly normal and mundane family man becomes a serial killer. As none of his victims have anything in common, except for one thing. The police have to find out what that one thing is as he is an equal opportunity serial killer.

The only thing that may stop this is the fact that I signed up for the challenge.

This year, for me, I'm doing a urban paranormal romance.

It's about a very foxy chic trying to discover exactly what she is. An irritating arraguant (aren't they all?) dragon who refuses to use her proper name. And an outside force that seems bent on trying to kill over any high power critters in the city. All this and trying to keep their true nature a secret from the normal madanes of the world.

Which aint any of us!!! :D

I'm writing the prequel to the novel I wrote last year. It takes place a hundred years beforehand, and shows how some of the myths that are regarded as historical fact in the previous book came to be. It is in a sense based on Christianity and the question, "If Jesus isn't the son of God, what life did he lead that created the story of his life?". It is not intended to be a Christianity basher, just an examination of an idea, but I have purposefully distanced several thing about my character from Jesus to make it less likely to be viewed that way. It is also historical fantasy, taking place in a world that I invented (although it is based on our world, and there are no elves in it).

Lots of politics, religious turmoil, and even romance occurs, it should be an exciting ride.

OK, as others put more of a description here is a bit more detail on mine.

The protagonist is a psychologist. He has an ability to sense peoples true intentions (I am thinking of the title being Heartfelt). Well, whenever he signs off a case as closed within two weeks the client is murdered in gruesome ways (thanks James Herbert for the inspiration). He of course is suspected of being the murderer so he takes it on himself to prove his innocence by finding the true murderer.

This is the first book in a trilogy that I have planned. I have notes for the following two books and with my screwed up imagination I will probably extend it more.

The final book will be a big 'meaning of life and why we are here' type ending.

12 hours to go. I am so excited.

I just don't know. My end-point is changing hourly. I'm so confused.

One thing I DO know, there won't be any elves in it.

Well, maybe one. A small one. NO, NO, NO!!! Stop that!

Hi, I'm doing a YA fantasy. Kind of a companion novel to my Laurel's Miracle which is in the hands of a publisher right now It is about a young teen who has recently escaped his abusive uncle. He is ambushed by said uncle and finds himself in King Arthur's band of knights. He has to help rescue a maid in distress (of course!) who turns out to be his real life friend Aisling, from the clutches of the evil Melwas. It mixes in lots of ledgends and magic. His horse is a magical friend who is a crystal stallion from the caverns under the Glastonbury Tor. I haven't worked out all the details yet (as you can tell from this rambling discourse) I think I will just start writing and see where it takes me!
Good Writing Everyone!

Hi Huushiita, I had a Selkie in my novel that I wrote last year! Mine was male but according to myth they can be male or female. Your story sounds great, I love the walrus! And pirates, too! I hope we can read your story when you finish.

I am writing an epic (hopefully) SF tale of civil war. This is my first time in NaNoWriMo, but I have two other books (unpublished) and a short story (published). Here's hoping I can keep up the momentum. Today went really well.

I'm writing literary fiction (the opposite of last year's epic fantasy...) about a girl who's abused and the challenges she goes through as she grows and changes. It's going to be more emotion-based than plot-based. ^^

I writing a science fiction/fantasy/mystery story with just a shot of romance that goes something like this.

Vera Starshine is a New Starhome police lieutenant hunting for a rogue vampire. In over fifteen years on the force, she’s seen it all. From drugged out goblins to homicidal jealous faeries, nothing surprises this tough as nails Drow. From the very beginning something has bothered her about this series of violent murders. Politics seemed to play to big a role. The murders seemed to be pushing the Anti-Vampire movement to new heights. This meant that Vera was under the spotlight and was expected to get results fast. Not only that, she seemed to have caught the attention of the mysterious and reclusive, billionaire, Darien Draconis. Between this case and him, Vera is caught in a deadly whirlwind of passion and intrigue.

A Planetary Romance/Sword and Planet story set on a faraway world of ruined cities, ancient super-sciene, swashbuckling heroes and fell villains. Looks to be quite a lot of fun, though I'm still in the 'roller-coaster chugging up the incline' stage. Things should begin loop-de-looping properly by about Chapter 5 or 6. . .heh heh heh.
