Spend Day 1 writing your Chapter 1 at Mission City Coffee in Santa Clara! We're holding an "all-day" write-in from 10am to 6pm. Come for a little while or a long while, make a good start on your word count, drink coffee, and eat food (Mission has good sandwiches, soup, and more).

There will be some sort of optional noveling games and word wars, and even exciting prizes. This is the first time we've held an event like this, and also the first time we've had a write-in at Mission, so it will be an adventure!

First Day Write-in
Sunday, November 1
10:00am-6:00pm
Mission City Coffee Roasting Co
2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara
Parking: The lot behind the cafe is fairly small, but there is also street parking in the area.

I want to go, but I'm fifteen. Will there be other people my age there? Or will it be weird because I'm a teen and everyone is most likely adults?

You are certainly still welcome. Participating nanos range in age from as young as 15 to as as old as...well, old. :) I don't know how many other teenage nanos will be attending this or other write-ins, but if your comfortable attending, you are welcome. We've had one or two teens attend write-ins in the past, and they managed to fit in just fine.

You can also look into the Young Writers Program (http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/), which caters to writers 17 years old and younger. That might have an environment you're more comfortable with.

I haven't been a teen in quite some time, but people still mistake me for a college freshman, so that's what, 18 or 19? I definitely don't look like an "adult" — and I still love watching kids shows ;)

Hope to see some friendly faces on Sunday. This is my first year actually going to write-ins because I need to be more social, dang it!

I'm fourteen, which is quite close to fifteen. I do want to go, very much. Hm.

Okay I think I'll go. I feel perfectly comfortable around adults. :)

You should go! Then we can bond together in the middle of the sea of adults. :D

Teens are totally welcome at this and all our events! One thing I've found that's great in our region is that friendships form among people of very different ages who might not otherwise have met.

If you're a teen and your parents have any concerns about your attendance at events, let me or Ian know, and we'll be happy to answer questions or talk to them. You can also always bring your parents along and have them hang out with us or at a nearby table (most of our write-ins are at cafes) until they feel comfortable.

I'll be there after I hit the nearest Spirit Halloween for the after-Halloween sale. :D I have high hopes of scoring a low-lying fog machine this year. *crosses fingers*

Well, I lost track of how many people showed up today, but I think it was some 35 SoBaNaNos at various points throughout the day. Thanks to everyone who made this experiment a success. We had some plot ninja fun and some brutal word wars, and a great many words were written!

Wherever you noveled today, hope you got off to a great start.

I highly approve of the all-day write-in and would like to do it again sometime in the future. :P
