I don't know about you all, but I don't have the time to read through EVERYONE's funny letters...but I would love to hear about some of the ones that are coming from characters in our fair city!

So, just let your characters start talking to you, write down what they have to say, and post it here!

Dear Author,

I know I've been floating around inside that crazy and rather messy space you call a mind for a while now, and don't get me wrong, I'm glad to finally have a name and a solid story, but I must protest. What sort of name is Nudge2710? It's not a good one, I can tell you that. Makes me feel so cold, so impersonal. Yeah, I know, I'm not actually a person, but still, I want to connect with readers, and I think I'd do that so much better with a cooler name. Something like Jane.

Please consider before you waltz into my head and start writing this story. It will make things much easier on both of us.

Sincerly,

Character who wished not to have numbers in her name...

Dear Author,

What the Hell?

First you send me flying through the stars where I lose the love of my life, gain another love only to find out that she's dying, while fighting off demons who's sole purpose in life is to enslave me.

Then you take me back in time and make me live through my father's death, the loss of my mother, my brother, the world.

Now you're going to make me go back through my early adulthood? I have to once again learn about the 'real' world, become a traitor to my best friend, my world, my species, and learn just how horrible people can be.

When do I get to have any fun? When do I get to finally grow up and grow old? When do I get to love and laugh?

Give me a break, for once, OK?

Dear T. Mnsvt,

I hate you with a passion that can never die because of the insanity you are about to put me through. As insane as you are, you don't have to do these things to me. Really. You could make it a happy psychological thriller, with maniacal bunnies whose sole power is their ability to always win at billiards.

Someday, you will fall in love with a girl; she will die.

From,

Spirios

Dear Morgan,
I must say, I'm flattered by your want to write of me. It's cute, in an obsessive sort of way. I do have to note though, you're not doing it as well as you could. Add a little more flirting? Perhaps give me the chance at a few more boys (maybe girls, if I have time)? I also, forgive my bluntness, should be more charismatic and enchanting then you write for me. I know we have had conversations in your head about this, and you've watched me in action, so why not push a little harder for how to word it all correctly?

As for everyone else, you don't need to go so easy on me. Let them swamp me with what you will. Don't hold back, my actions or theirs. A little deviation from the given order is a blessing, no? I'll survive, one way or another, I promise you love. Give me a challenge, and by all means show my true spirit when it rises in challenge back. Show me light or show me dark. Show this mask or that. But lift the restraints and give me the sunlight I so crave.

It's been a pleasant chat. We'll talk again soon, love.

Dear Diana,

Want me to kill that bastard for you that edited the wiki page that made you feel better about me? I know, I know, I don't like to do it, but in this case, I think its totally justified.

Also, please quit trying to turn my biography into a story with a plot. And, no, I don't need a love interest. You are already going to have problems writing this story as it is, don't make it harder for yourself. Since I can't find your misplaced sense of morals to shut them up, this may be worse than you think. Remember Mylana? Like that, only worse, cause its not just one scene.

Good luck kiddo!

Dear Author:

What's up with all the sex?

I mean, I know that because I'm not human and my species' attitude about love and sex is critical to the end of the book, that I and my sister are supposed to share "first time" stories with my human girlfriend and her mother. But ick! I feel so gay sharing in this way. I mean did I really need to learn that my future mother-in-law "woke the neighbors" her first time?

And then why did my "first" have to turn out to be a murderous psycho bitch? When she kidnapped me, that was pretty hot. And when she forced me to have sex with that 13-year-old, well... I know I complained at the time, but that was kinda hot too. But then you had her try to kill those other girls with her bare hands. They were nice girls, even if they were only betas. Anyway, that went waaaay over the line. She creeps me out.

And what's up with my human girlfriend? Humans don't go into heat. And her period is scheduled to start the next day. I'm not congested, I can tell these things. I mean I think she'd be a little subdued under the circumstances. So why is she all over me? And she keeps making suggestive comments. In front of her mother too!

I suspect you can't think of a real plot so you're just pandering to the perverts out there.

Stop it!

Sincerely,
Your Main Character

To Marina,

I know I'm supposed to end up falling in love with him but why must I? Isn't there anyone else I could be with before that? He gets to go off to France and live with a beautiful Frenchie and all I get is to be the warrior. When will I get to let my hair loose and do something I want to do? Do you even know what I like doing? No, I bet you don't. You think I'm a methodical cold-blood killer who doesn't believe in love. Well, the last part might be true but really, you are going to see that change as well.

Anyway, hope you consider the other human aspects of me. After all, I was once that exact thing. Human!

Wishing you the best,

Ayla

Dear Chokolatte,

Why must you write me as such a man-hating bitca?

I mean, yes, my father did freak out when he saw my little brother transform for the first time, and yes, he did throw my mother through a window and walk out on us all for good. And yes, I did have to raise my little brother all by myself while mom worked all the time, and he got to goof off and do no hard work. And yes, I do work in a male-dominated career field, and yes, I am the only female in the building who isn't a secretary, so I do have to constantly prove myself to all of them so that one of the under-qualified males I supervise doesn't get my job simply because of his gender. And yes, one of my male teachers did exploit me for my gpa, and yes my last boyfriend …

...

Okay, I guess I see where you're coming from.

Well then, could we just turn it down a bit?

Thanks,
Mac

PS: Why do I go by Mac instead of Makenzie, again?

Dear author,

I have to say, I don't really hate you as much as I thought I would. Honestly, before you started writing, I thought you were an asshole. You were thinking, "I'll just make her a minor character. She's not really important." No, don't try to hide it, I was right there inside your head while you were thinking it. Did you ever stop to consider how I felt about it?

Luckily, you did the right thing. I actually got a chance to act like a real person with emotions and everything! Isn't that exciting? And, what's more, you gave me a love interest. I know, I know, I pressured you into it, which was kinda unfair, but still, wasn't it worth it? Hasn't it been fun for everyone involved? Especially me...

But anyway, thanks for not being a heartless bastard and killing me two pages after my now- lover meets me.

Lots of love,
Dani

Dani:

Back in NaNo '05 I had a character who was so minor she didn't even have a speaking role. Then she got elevated to love interest for the main character, her own POV scenes, a pay raise, and everything.

Hang in there, sweetheart. Your big day is coming.

Mistress Lilyana:

Are you certain the werewolves are truly random?

I was watching tee-vee Tuesday and this random character pops up to flirt with one of the series regulars, which put him off his game. It was cute. Then she popped up in another scene. And later another scene. "Okay," I thought. "This is no mere random character. She will become significant to the plot."

She was.

So don't discount those random characters. They can be murder (or murdered).

Dutch:

Don't sweat it, dude. Your could have been penned by Douglas Adams.
