I would go for this if it happened to be in a bit of SE Lon I could reach easily. There's a gastropub in Sydenham called the Dolphin - I think they might go for having a bunch of writers if we asked them. *I* could ask them, but not for the next couple of days due to extreme busy-ness.

PS I haven't heard it called the Hamthrax before, it's a wonderful name! And I hope it doesn't affect your writing hand(s) and you feel well again soon.

I'd be up for it depending on times/days etc.

I'm in Forest Hill / Sydenham - the Dolphin sounds good to me. Daytime is best for me.

Ah OK sounds good!
I'm in Peckham and getting to Lewisham/Sydenham is pretty easy for me by train.
Anyone have any specific day preferences?

I'm in Deptford, so Sydenham is fine. Weekends are better but will just see what dates/times are suggested.

Sydenham is a bit of a mission from here (not in terms of distance but indirectness of transport, to the point where it'd be easier to get up to Central) but my friend and ex-flatmate are sharing a place in Penge and commuting in and out of uni, so it's doable if I can get lifts with them. We'll see what dates and times are suggested.

Also in Peckham, and would be willing to head to Sydenham for write-ins. Anyone have suggestions for time and days yet? I'd request some time after 6.30pm, 'cause I work in Central London and it takes that long to get home.

Planning on going to Southbank, otherwise.

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses! Sounds like this might actually be something of a go-ahead.

Well lets try and make this meet-up place somewhere accessible to everyone in SE.

If Sydenham is a mission for some people (it's a little awkward for me too) we could probably make it somewhere Central South East like Victoria. I think most South-Eastern trains go to Victoria and they have a few coffee shops, cafe's and pubs. It's also a nice area.

What do you guys think?

Victoria's easy for me. I was tempted to suggest London Bridge or Waterloo, but that'd be pretty much stepping into the other one we've got going on at the Southbank Centre so maybe not.

Just in case anyone's more east than south - is there anywhere in the O2 that might be suitable? I know from friends that there's coffee shops and bars and whatnot, but haven't actually been in there myself.

I'm in Crystal Palace/Upper Norwood and would certainly be keen to come to one in Victoria!

Victoria would be ideal for me. O2 less easy, though I'd be happy to make the effort to get there.

Being in South Norwood and therefore Croydon, I am "well up for it".

Victoria, Sydenham, you name it: I'm connected.

Victoria would definitely suit me - I'd definitely be interested in a write-in, especially if it doesn't clash with Picadilly one. Won't be able to make any this week, but will be around from next week onwards.

How about The Elusive Camel as a possible Venue

Very close to Victoria and should be cool with us doing a few hours there.

Another option would be

The Lost Society in Clapham

They would be TOTALLY up for this

I think South east london sounds great. Especially if you're planning to rotate venues. There are some nice bars in Greenwich town centre and they tend to be quiet during the week.

But the Victoria sounds good too!

If you guys want to do this we need to choose a venue - The Southbank Write in works really well - probably best to do it somewhere like that or the British Library.

There is a cool coffee shop at the V&A which has plenty of seats and is in a wonderful inspiring room.

Or the new one at the Natural History Museum

Cool venues, but holding the South-East London meet up in West-Central kind of defeats the point.

I like the sounds of the Clapham joint.

Anyone interested in Blackheath? There's this pub I like:

http://www.qype.co.uk/place/222068-The-Crown-London

It's nothing special, a bit dark and probably wouldn't accommodate a large crowd but it has a nice window area with comfy green armchairs where you can observe the goings-on and write at the same time!

I might or might not be there on Wednesday night but in any case it's a possible venue if anyone's in the area.

I'll keep an eye on this thread and hopefully see some of you somewhere, sometime. :)

I'm interested in SELondon meets, but being down past Sidcup, the only places that are really doable for me so far are Lewisham, Blackheath or Greenwich

(I know - there's always one bloody awkward one!)

For those people in the Sydenham, Crystal Palace, Penge etc area, I'm happy to arrange a write in in a rubbish pub called the Woodman on Kirkdale. It's 5/10 min walk from Sydenham and Forest Hill stations and only the same bus ride from Penge and Crystal Palace. If you're up for it let me know and if I get a few responses I'll sort something out for next week.

This may well work for me but first I'd like to clarify something. By "rubbish pub" - do you mean ugly decor but plenty of space and power outlets, or so gritty and urban that it would work best for people wanting material for their drug-dealing and bar fight stories, if they didn't mind getting blood on their laptops?
