I'm pantsing and panicking! Going to forge through, though. I'm not sure I like my MC. Never had that happen before. Guess she'll evolve the way she wants to. lol
About 1,700 words, so it's really too early to tell, right? I'm chugging out about 500 words/hour. Have to finish by Nov. 20, because family is coming for Thanksgiving.
This is an unexpected adventure.

My novel says things are going great. Did around 2.5k at the midnight dash last night and will no doubt do more before the day is through.
My mountains and mountains of homework, however, might say otherwise. This is going to be an interesting month in time management.

I hit 2000 words last night, and am about to try for another couple of thousand today to get a buffer for the inevitable writing-delaying-life-events. So far, the characters are all doing what they're supposed to, the plot is moving along, and the introductions are getting taken care of.
Of course, it sucks. But it's supposed to, so I'm good.

So far so good. I wanted to start at midnight last night, but had to hit the sack. So I've been at it for a little while this morning, and will get some more done later in the day. Already my MC has changed slightly from my initial idea... I hope I still recognize him at the end of the month.

I did just over 2k at the midnight sprint and i made 5k just a little bit ago. This is the earliest I have ever had a 5k day and the only 5k day i have had not driven by my being behind. Earlier i was averaging 2000 word/hour now it's more like 500 words an hour, 1000 if you account for the time i spent eating dinner.

I'm at 350 words lol. Started about 10:30 pm. Don't even have a title yet. My plot last year had a much better foundation than this one does. I'm pantsing it this year. AHHHHHHHHHHHH. I'm exhausted to. I'll make it through at least 1000 words tonight though. Good luck everyone!

Things are going along swimmingly so far. I managed to get 5k before midnight tonight so I'm happy. I'm a little worried about my story. I managed to get an outline together and already things are starting to change. At the same time I'm excited about the changes. I was afraid that I wasn't going to enjoy it because I'd feel like I'd already written the story by doing the outline. I'm excited to see what happens next because I know what you plan and what actually happens are two completely different things.

I think this is the first time I'm actually ahead. O_O
I had planned to have a buffer of word counts for those days I always get busy, and I know Thanksgiving will eat up writing time like no one's business (since it always does), so I hope I can stay ahead of the word count enough so that I won't be writing like a maniac the last week, like I always am.
Things are coming to me so much easier, though, since I have an outline this year.

Sooo far behind! Tonight's not looking good either. Well, it is only the second day, and I've been further behind than this. :) -- I just haven't been able to get into the groove yet. It usually takes me the first scene where I really feel like I like it. I'm hoping that's soon!

I already like my story better than I expected to. When I first had the idea, it was kind of iffy, but at least better than the YA idea I'd jotted down months ago. Now that it's actually taking shape on paper (erm... screen), I'm digging it more. I'm hoping to dash off another 1000 words tonight.

I still haven't discovered my main character yet. I was starting to worry, but then I finally got him hired at the store and he's starting to meet people, yet I'm still worried that my secondary characters might be more fleshed out than Henry right out the gate.

My novel unexpectedly made a U-turn, and I switched characters and genre.
"Meanwhile, back on the home world, where there is no time travel or spaceships (even though those are fun), someone was writing a ghost story."
So today, I've been auditioning ghosts. Doesn't that sound like fun? It really is!

I've been surprised at the smoothness so far. I've exploded out of the gate with this story, which shocks me to no end because A) I'm not really a writer and B) I didn't really love my story idea at first. The more I've written, the more interested I've become in it, though, and I've already thought to myself "I wonder what's going to happen next..."
The main character is something of a loser, who briefly floats into "lovable loser" territory before sliding back into just regular loser and (soon) downright jerk. I've decided there will be some sort of redemption at the story's end, but probably not the kind that people would hope for or expect.

My MC is a family, not an individual person. It is historical fiction based loosely on a real family. I am pantsing it, definitely. 13,600 words so far, so a little ahead. THAT won't last.

I've not written as much yet as I wish I had . . . . But I'm telling myself the slow start is due to the need to pop on-line now and again for bits of research that I don't know I need until I need it. Now I'm going to have to make a chart to keep track of time, because with only 6400 words I'm already a bit lost! Yikes!
But: with my new-to-me (used) AlphaSmart 2000, I find that I can get some writing done on the back patio, which is good to know. (My lap top is being a butt and doesn't work very well anymore.)
Back to it now. I'm hoping to hit 10K by the end of the day.

I did make my 10K goal last night, and added a little more (on my AlphaSmart, Luddie) during the commercials on "Ghost Hunters." The part of the story I'm working on now is a little darker than I expected it to be, but I think that's okay. There's a more complete story-within-a-story than I had any idea there would be, too. I think I might as well finish that, which is in a different style/tone than the main story; it's been hard to switch back and forth, and should be easier to break the story-within up later than to juggle POVs. And it gives me a chance to pants it, too -- the main story is decently outlined, but the story-within isn't. I know where it's going, but it's finding its own way there.
I have to say I am totally over the moon with Luddie. I can write on the couch without a cat trying to gnaw on the end of a pen. I can write on the patio without the wind ruffling my pages. I can write at exercise when I'm done with my workout and waiting for Husband-man to finish his) and people are so boggled by the machine they let me be. I can write in the car if Husband-man is driving. Being at the keyboard prompts me, being in different places gives my imagination new perspectives/ideas. My laptop is too clunky, and offers too many distractions, but Luddie, boy oh boy, she really concentrates my attention!
I've got some other work to catch up on this afternoon, so what I write at the gym may be it for today, but I'm still hoping for at least another 2500 words, and would be thrilled with more.

I'm the first to admit I am a raving techno-feeb, so I refuse to be embarrassed to have to ask this question: how the heck do I add writing buddies? I am the buddy of more than are my buddies, and there are a couple of people I'd like to add, and I've peered at the screen quite closely and still can't see where it says "add writing buddies." Help, please!

Hey there... just click on my username to the left. When my profile page comes up, under that stunning self-portrait :) you should see the "add as buddy" link.
Hope that helps. You can, of course, do the same with those people you were originally interested in adding as a buddy.

Hello everyone!
This is my first post. I'm not deliberately being anti-social by not hanging out on the forum, but I'm working away as though the demons of hell are hounding me.
As for my story, things are going well. My word count thus far is officially 23,706 and I'm still working away here. As I just told Xander in my reply to his email to the Tucson contingent of this writing challenge, my word count is not a result of a random conglomeration of words; there's a real story unveiling itself on my laptop and I'm having a grand time.
Gotta go, words are dripping and I want to quick catch them. At some point I guess I'll need to do something normal like cook a meal or do laundry. Hmmm...no, don't think so.

Haven't started yet... maybe tonight? *crosses fingers*
I've known about NaNoWriMo for 5 years and every year I say, "This is the year!" Well, I finally made an account so I guess this is "The One". We'll see how it goes from here. I have no plot, no outline, no main characters... just an idea based off of other ideas that will *hopefully* turn into a story.... that and some peer pressure, which is always a good source of motivation.
Anywho-- g'luck and happy writing, all. =)

Just crossed 20K tonight, so I'm pleased. I probably won't write more than 10 words this weekend because of a massive project I've been planning - it's all going down this weekend. So maybe Monday, after that's all a happy memory and I've caught up on some sleep and seen my family again, maybe then I'll start the trek to 30K.
