Got the snacks, drinks, coffee, and other such items, a copy of "No Plot, No Problem"...and began to write today.

Wrote 1600 words over the afternoon.

And I have to admit, this is the worst rubbish I've ever read. Can I please throw it out? I mean who cares that Patricia likes to eat Ketchup on her mashed potatoes? I don't! But there it was creeping into my story. Bah!

Then, I read Mr. Baty's "Pep Talk" and he explains that even if the novel is "suckitude" there's an old adage:

"You can turn a bad rough draft into a nice novel, but you can't turn a blank page into anything."

Here's to more drivel!

Best wishes to all,
Sincerely,

Chris.

I have the same experience...a lot of crap. I keep talking about rocks...literally stones. However, there are a few passages I am quite pleased with. So for now, I will remind myself of those and try to ignore the not so fantastic parts.

Keep your head up.

I believe we all do that. I know regardless of what I write, I hate it. If I try to edit I will edit to death and never get anywhere. For me I can not read more than a paragraph back or I get stuck thinking it all sucks.

And caffeine and snacks help LOTS!!

So keep going..We have an entire year to edit.

I wouldn't say I wrote a bunch of crap but I decided to use my mulligan today and change the story I am writing. I wrote a new title, synopsis and even threw together a working cover. I decided that it is better for me to get rid of the trash while the daily goal and running total goal is at 1,667 words. Who needs an outline when I have the seat of my pants! Good Luck Everyone! -Jason

I managed over 3k words today. I am super surprised with myself quite frankly, I expected to have to literally drag each letter out of myself. Here's hoping I can keep up this pace, I'm already ahead of schedule so if I can keep going like this I'll be done in no time.

I won't speak to the level of suckitude of what I'm writing, this whole thing for me is just an opportunity to break through the chronic self edits and actually get more than a few pages written. I've already passed my previous personal best by about 1,000 words.

Just keep swimming....

Remember don't read the stuff you wrote, this is a FIRST DRAFT, if it isn't good when you EDIT IN DECEMBER that's when you fix it. Remember just get the words on the paper!!! Because each of us wants to hit our 50k goal

Hi all,

I managed to squeak out of the non-paying (family) obligations yesterday, still had to go look for my sister's lost cat at the shelter (no luck :( ) and give lessons but still managed to get in 335 words in the morning and then off/on from 2 pm on, making 3800 words. Plot wise, I'm happy where I am but dialogue is clunky yuck ;P. The words keep coming though, and just like last year, it just starts rolling off and I wonder why the heck I did not keep up the writing habit during the year.

Thanks heaps! And you're right, I shouldn't re-read the words, as that causes my "Inner Editor" to come out swinging! And he was so mean last night! :)

Okay, tonight, I'm going to write just to write. No reading what I wrote, keep my eyes off it. I've got all December to re-write!

You have no idea how free this makes me feel. Many many thanks.

Sincerely,
coffee10

I have a serious inner editor as well. He is hard to keep at bay, but come Dec he will get to have his way with my first draft.

As for dialogue I have that problem too. It will so have to be fixed
