One of my characters is a Deadpool parody. Except lots of fourth wall breaking. This hasn't occurred yet, but I thought of it one day and I wrote the scene down so I wouldn't forget:

"What the *%$#?” Shadow Wraith asked.
"What?" I asked. It didn't sound like he was speaking words. It sounded like he was speaking African clicking language or something, and try as I might, I couldn’t figure out what he meant.
"Did he say something?" Owen asked.
"I have no idea," I said.
"It’s a group of symbols that stand for an expletive," Shadow Wraith explained.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. Sometimes I thought he was from another planet.
"This is a YA novel. She doesn’t want me to swear. Scares off the readers," Shadow Wraith said.
I decided to ignore him.

My narrator addressed the reader directly I think on the very first page, actually, but not my characters. I'm not sure if I'm going to go that route.

I had a shy servant girl who hadn't spoken a word suddenly explode into lecturing the royal family on how they were all completely unlikeable and how she'd like to see their heads served on their shiny silver platters because the rebellion was coming and they weren't long for the novel anyway.

And then I realized she wast totally right...and changed the POV and the format of the story and made the characters more complicated but also sympathetic, and couldn't be happier. And then I gave the servant girl a huge promotion in the story. Now she gets to kill the King. Good thing she spoke up!!
