So, fellow sci-fi-ers, I'm trying to think of a name for what is essentially the main 'antagonist' in my story, and I'm having zero luck.
It's a genetically engineered plant, primarily a carnivorous plant but now designed to grow insanely fast. It overcomes buildings, streets, cars, whatever is in its way. Since it's carnivorous-based, it doesn't require good soil, or much soil at all. It just relies on sun and predation to get its nutrients. It also eventually starts mutating and getting weirder from there, but I need a name that applies to it from that initial outset. It was engineered by an eco-terrorist group to, essentially, send humanity back to cave living (fixing overpopulation, pollution, oil consumption, etc.)
I can't think of what to call the thing. Presumably, the eco-terrorists would want a good terror inspiring name. Probably something mythology based, but maybe not. I also don't know what to call the group itself. A thousand different "Green [Noun]" names run through my head, but I'm trying to avoid that.
Any help you internet-folk can offer would be much appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Dragon's Teeth. This plant would obviously have thorns. These thorn or teeth if you will could carry a poison (think poison ivy but way worse) and could become easily attached to a person (think burs) and easily pass the poison on contact.

you could try coming up with a psuedo-latin name
for example
Hedera Carnivosa
and a very simple slang name like
Death Ivy.
or just
The Vine
as for the terrorist group how about
----------"children of....(something)"
if you use the vine
"Children of The Vine"

After crawling through Wikipedia for a while, I ended up going with Nephthys Vine for the plant. The plan for the vine is that it creates a rebirth through the death of the existing system, which is what Nephthys did with Pharaohs. Or that's what my wiki reading implied, at least.
I think the cult is going to be Hand of Ammit or Children of Ammit, something with Ammit. The Devourer of Souls, Ammit was responsible for punishing / destroying the unworthy.

This.
You don't need to make a plant up, because reality gave us Kudzu. It grows over everything and advances relentlessly each year. You can't kill it, because it doesn't die, yet it covers and chokes the life out of anything in its path. Local rednecks have parked cars in their front yards, only to have the Kudzu consume the whole car. What other plant can subsist on metal, rust, and rubber, when that's all that's available? There isn't one.
If your terrorists make a form of fast-growing Kudzu, game over.
