I'm starting to check the regional wordcount list to find a good region for us to challenge (probably going for an average wordcount wordwar like last year's against France). Some early possibilities:

We're currently at: 168 wrimos, 5849 wpw

Any thoughts on this? Another possibility: I can write a tool that will compare the top twenty or forty or sixty of our writers against the top from another region...

I think any of those would be a fun challenge! Of course according to our word count graph, we've currently got over 7600 words per wrimo so we might need a tougher area to go against...

(And applause all around to our awesome region - normally when I get ahead in word count I slack off a little, but this group of overachievers is keeping me running full steam!)

Not to burst the bubble, but the 7600 average is based on the folks in the word count graph, which is a small subset of the entire region ;-)

But I do agree we have a bunch of writers this season! I hope folks can keep it up!

Oops! So how do we find the average wordcount of our whole region?

Edited To Add-
Nevermind, I found it in the original link! And we're still doing really awesome as a region! If we're taking a vote, I suppose the Australia group might be my first choice, but again, any of them would be cool.

I think any of the 3 regions would be worthy opponents.

I like the idea of taking on an entire country. How cool would it be to be able to boast that we took on France and and beat them both. Can any other region make that claim?

I say go for it.

Tom

Three other possibilities:

  • Texas::San Antonio (164 wrimos, 5733 wpw)
  • Scotland::Glasgow (109 wrimos, 6035 wpw--currently ahead of us)
  • Europe::France (180 wrimos, 6662 wpw--currently ahead of us)

You know, regional wordcount is notoriously unstable ;-)
But things do tend to settle out a bit after a week...
There are actually two regions at this point that we're seriously considering challenging and that seem that they might be interested:

  • Holland & Belgium, with 691 participants (yes, they are quite a bit bigger than us!) and a 9567 average wordcount this morning.
  • England::Birmingham-WestMidlands, with 249 participants (also bigger than we are, but in the same ballpark) and an impressive 9710 average wordcount.

We are currently at 9330 words on average with 188 wrimos. I am thinking that we should take them both on...

The word war is a cool idea. You should compete against Illinois:Elsewhere. Our regions are close to each other, and that would be some fun competition!
