The characters from Winchester/JMU/Harrisonburg & Beyond are planning a crossover event!

Greater Winchester area writers will be heading down to Harrisonburg on Saturday, November 14th to meet up with our POC arrowsforpens and her trusty writer friends from JMU/Harrisonburg. If you are in the local area or beyond we would love to have you join us. The plan is to meet at noon at the Panera in Harrisonburg (directions to follow) but check back on this forum for possible scheduling and location changes.

How many novelists can you stuff in one car? How many novelists can you fit inside Panera? I will be driving and most likely LaMishia as well. We will need to get a headcount to determine if we need another volunteer driver. We would also like to get a good idea of how many to expect so we can make a change in location if necessary. If you would like to join us, let us know here with a quick location shout out as in:

I'm Susan (susieiz) from Winchester and I'll be there! (you don't have to write that but you get the picture)

Can't wait to meet everyone!

Susan

I will probably be there, though I probably won't need a ride. My Mom works in Harrisonburg on Saturdays so I can probably go with her. I had a fun time at tonight's write in, btw.

What time is the Panera Write-in on the 14th again? I'm planning on making it.
Cheers, Ray
P.S. Currently I'm on-track, but the longer I write the confuseder I get about what my characters are doing ... help they're alive!!

I am in the Waynesboro group. What time is the write in on 11/14? Some of us here may be interested. I just need directions and later will give an approx. head count if people are going. radcat38

I'm Kate (arrowsforpens) from Harrisonburg and I'll be there! (haha)

JMU kids without cars, I suggest the Shopper bus. It goes to the WalMart shopping center roughly every hour, and stops everywhere on campus between the bookstore and Festival.

Everyone else, here's the address:
Panera Bread
Burgess Road
295 Burgess Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22801

It's tucked into the parking lot of a rather large shopping center, which includes a WalMart, Home Depot, and Barnes & Noble, and is connected to all the large-ish roads in that part of town. Google maps should give a pretty good idea.

See you all there!

Hi all! Glad to see we are sparking interest in our crossover event! I am so excited! Like the first post says, we are planning to meet at noon and Panera is the planned location unless of course we need to make a change due to the number of people planning to attend. I would say that we can meet there if we have around a dozen or less. Otherwise we may need to think about other options.

Right now it looks like we have five or six. Start brainstorming on other locations just in case this list grows!

Talk to you soon and have a productive writing day!

I think if we plan on ordering food and drink...which I do!...we should be fine. Without moving tables we can gather near a central location and as other customers filter out we can move closer together. As long we don't conduct ourselves in a meeting sort of way I don't see anything wrong with eating, drinking, writing and chatting for a couple of hours. If it gets too hectic (which I doubt as I do plan to get some writing done) we will relocate!

Cheers!

I don't know for sure y et, but I don't think I can come that day. When were you planning to leave and come back? I have something that night, so I might be able to do it if I can be back in WinCity by 7:00 p.m. or so.

I'm planning to be at Barnes and Noble this evening at nominally about 5:30 p.m. with one of the NoNos from Waynesboro and we'll probably be hanging around at least until 7 p.m. so come on over and write in with us at Barnes and Noble ... this evening is today, Friday Nov 6th around 40 minutes from now.

Cheers, Ray

Josette, I think we can get you back by 7:00 no problem. I think LaMishia has an event she has to be back for by 5:00. (?)

It would be great if those who are riding with me can meet up on Route 522/340 at the Front Royal Walmart parking lot. I think we can safely leave a couple of cars there for the day. I can take three and Stacey has called shotgun. So any takers on the back seat? Harrisonburg is only an hour from there so I would like to leave no later than 10:40-10:45.

LaMishia can meet up with three Winchester writers at the location and time of her choice and either drive direct form Winchester or meet up with us in Front Royal so we can convoy. Right now we are looking at 5 confirmed and 1 maybe so we still have two seats left before we need to add another car. MEghan where are you?

I expect that we will write from 12:00 to 2:00 and leave Harrisonburg no later than 3:00. That should put you back at your cars by 4:00. Unless of course someone knows of a good winery on the way back! I'll be the DD. :) Any other ideas or time constraints?

Hi I'm Pauline(alcestis),
I'm definitely going to try and be at Harrisonburg next Saturday because I haven't met anyone down here in Lexington who is doing Nanowrimo yet!
Probably my own fault because I've been too busy writing to do much more than read some of the posts while I'm doing my wrist warm up exercises each day!
Yesterday, Saturday, I came to Winchester to see the Matisse, Picasso and Modern Art in Paris exhibition -and eat some Thai food.Great day out! I thought at 14, 800 I could take a day off but have to get down to it again today.
Thank you Suseiz and LaMishia and everyone else who helps to cheer us on with our writing this month!
See you Saturday,
alcestis

Hi Pauline (alcestis)there is a very active WriMo bunch in Waynesboro I gather, so that would be closer than Harrisonburg until you stir up the Lexington crowd.

Hi Ray,
Yes, thanks, I have been reading all the posts just not participating myself - always told my students not to do that!
I'm not totally sure that writing in a group would be my thing as I'm so used to writing on my own- but I've decided to give it a try at least before ruling it out.
I am also interested in trying the writing software that we have been hearing about. I tend just to write in Word in separate chapters and then merge them for the Nanowrimo word count at the end.But it does involve quite a few sums when I update my daily wordcount!
Cheers for now,
Pauline

I'm doing something similar ... except that for NaNoWriMo I've been using Open Office mostly because I don't have Word on my Netbook. But I have both on my laptop. When I finish a day writing I just cut and past the result into a file named "Composite" and then cut and paste that into the word counter ... I didn't notice, can you just put your word count in?

Cheers, Ray

Yes, when you Log in and go to MyNanoWrimo you will see update word count next to the wordcount in the top Right hand corner. I just put the new figure in there and click on update. Then all the pasting in I do around November 25th or so.

I'm interested in coming! Sorry, things have been absolutely crazy at my house, so I haven't checked the boards in WAY too long... Is it still possible for me to go? I'd definitely need a ride. Where would we be meeting to carpool and stuff?

And just for the heck of it:

I'm Heather (Kaylingrl_1) from Winchester and I'd like to be there! :D
