My friend sent me a Facebook message this morning, and I thought you all might get a kick out of what NaNo looks like to "normal people."

Here's what she saw:

"So i'm in DC for a conference and this morning I escaped the overpriced hotel breakfast and spotted a nice cafe across the street. I believe you'd appreciate this place! It's attached to a bookstore and he cafe is named Afterwords. There's a section reserved for people participating in NaNoWriMo... and it's packed.

So they don't want to be bothered with the normal hassles of having to speak to someone to order thir food, this place created a system of flags at each table to let the waitstaff know what sustenance the patrons prefer. One guy is wearing a big button that says, "Do NOT bother me! It's November." "

NaNo, driving up cafe business since...1999? Well, for a long time, anyway.

Oh, that is fantastic.

I talked to Rick at Mo'Joe yesterday. They ordered another table just for us. See, we do have an affect on cafe/coffee shop business. ;-)

Ha! So NaNo is the new economic stimulus - solving the financial crisis 50,000 words at a time.

See, I had a thought along these lines on Sunday. It was basically, "Holy crap - the world's consumption of coffee just started to soar today, and it will rise and plateau for the next 30 days."

Yeah, NaNo, we're, like, a financial coffee industry juggernaut and stuff.

I don't think it's at all coincidental that Starbuck's just came out with their instant coffee packets. :-)

A wife of a friend works for corporate Starbucks. She had a packet of that stuff a few months ago. The reviews were not positive. Just sayin'!

From what I heard, it's a lot like any other instant coffee. I confess I kinda miss that freeze-dried aroma.

I'm really glad to know Mo'Joe seems to like us :)

Oh dear jeez! that via stuff is nasty! I buy beans when they are on a good sale, and freeze 'em. I couldn't live without my fresh ground coffee every morning. And the beans, if you just eat one or two, make a good wake up call!
