My MC gets kicked very hard in the ... place most guys fear being kicked. What does this feel like? Be specific and graphic.

I have my MC unable to breathe that well, and he vomits. He also lets his father's murderer walk away because he's in too much pain to get up.

Is this accurate? Is there anything I am missing?

Thanks

Very sharp, localized pain for one. It is quite a bit debilitating, so I don't think you're off track here. I'd describe it really like Achilles' Heel in some ways; feeling completely shut down (if it's that severe, I don't think it's too much assume that a guy's survival instincts would just overwrite the rest of his thoughts to a degree and he'd just want to impulsively lie there) is not uncommon.

Also I think you'd be right in putting in some yelling. I mean, if he had some big reason for not wanting to, then he could contain it. But his father's killer getting away would probably reasonably combine with the pain in a super angry/pain release yell-fest.

Now I hope I never think about this this indepth again, heh.

okay so I got kicked once. I thought that my left testicle had shattered. the pain shot through up to my navel and down to my mid thigh. I was sensitive to touch there for several years afterwards. I didn't vomit, though.

I hope that helps.

Also, this; I don't think I've ever been hurt there without having at least the fleeting thought that something was broken/felt like it had been.

I took martial arts for many years. One of the most important things to remember in martial arts training is that cups made for baseball are NOT acceptable. Here's why.

If you set a baseball cup on a table, it will sit flat. This is fine for activities like baseball, where the ball will come at you from the front. Martial arts cups look more like a gravy boat with a lower section that wraps well under the pelvis. It matters because of snap kicks with improper form. These kicks come straight up at you. With a baseball style cup there is nothing to stop that cup from sliding up above your navel, shearing off all the dangly bits in the way. Of course, it never breaks contact with your body as it does this.

I would describe the pain as a mix of a burning sensation and very intense dull ache. After the sheering incident, I just sat down on the floor. The pain actually subsided pretty quickly, but there was something very like nausea that lasted a good 15 minutes. I couldn't even sit up straight.

For contrast, I was playing some tag-like game one time as a teenager. The big green power transformer was base, so if I could reach it I was fine. The guy trying to get us all was standing against it with his back to me. I thought I could run up and jump onto it before he turned. I didn't. He turned and extended a hand just as I jumped. Basically, I jumped junk first onto his extended and locked fist. I was still able to chase him for about 20 seconds before it really hit me. I was angry and I think that helped. I wasn't angry at the amazon that blasted me in class years later. (Seriously. She was over 6 feet tall with hair to her waist.)

I've also noticed that there really is a delay of a few seconds before the pain comes. Also, getting flicked with something as minor as a shoelace can be more debilitating than a solid kick. The pain is different. It goes away sooner, but it seems much more intense.

Probably the best comparison that could be mad would be getting a breast punched. I've seen the reactions from something like that before and the expressions look very similar. They even make hard plastic cups for bras for just that reason.
