lol, that certainly wasn't what I expected when I read the title. That really sucks though. I don't know how you write while listening to music though, it boggles my mind.

Sorry about the headphones!

I'm another who CANNOT write to music. I can't form words if there are other words happening: music with lyrics, people talking, television, radio, etc. Totally distracts me.

This is why I can't write in public - if some twinkie is yapping inanely on her bluetooth to her BFF i cannot block her out.

Even if i play music with no singing I block it out entirely. When I'm done writing I won't be able to recall what songs I heard!

I have a problem writing sometimes without music. But I'm one of those who, if she's awake, has something going for noise most of the time. Music, the tv...I usually can't write with the tv, although it has been known to happen!

So, I understand the headphone problem. But, just think, now you can hear your characters voices better!

It's funny to watch me write.
I have music playing softly, but I'm there, belting out the lyrics to the song as I'm typing away. I ordinarily don't have that capacity for multitasking, so I have no idea how I can do both things at the same time. If I don't, though, my writing quality just plummets. o_o

I'd go into a deep depression if my headphones died, seriously. I need music during the day or I tend to go a bit loopy so I feel your pain. Having said that, I don't listen to music while writing (unless it's specific pieces for a specific event). What I do listen to when writing is recordings of falling rain and thunder as it provides some noise for my ears but isn't distracting enough to divert my attention.

Heh, awesome title. Reminds me of one of my own earplugs dying 3 days ago. I already purchased new ones, of course, though those are for usage while travelling. I just use my speakers while typing away.

Whether I use music or not depends on what I'm doing. When I'm translating for University for instance, or when an essay isn't going well, putting up music is the worst thing I can do. For writing however, it often helps. In fact, I've got music on shuffle all right now, with all my music. A lot of oddly fitting music began to be played, and it kind of helps me to create the atmosphere.

For instance, I was going for a somewhat unsettling, mysterious atmosphere just now. The quiet for the storm, so to speak. It was largely inspired by the music running on the background; originally, the place my character was in would have been a lot more bland and less appealing than it is now.

So in this case, it helps me quite a bit. It definately has helped to spur me on to catch up in word count today. Only 4K words more until I've finally caught up!

I'm in sane. It's a funny place.

I have to have music to write, so I understand your pain. My son broke my headphones on the 30th of October, so no playlist-y goodness for me right now *sad face* I could use the radio, I guess, but commercials suck.

I cannot, however, do like the PP and sing while writing. I have to listen to the music, but as soon as my mouth opens my fingers stop... GRRR

Ouch, I understand your pain! I can't live without music playing, much less write!

Aaaw, thanks for all the kind words guys~

The moment I reached my word count, I dashed into town and bought a brand-spanking new pair of headphones. I call them Jeff. They are awesome.

Mmmm, but I agree with most of you. I usually don't listen to music while I'm writing, but I do find it's vital to listen to the appropriate music -before- I start writing. It helps me get into the right mood, especially when I'm working on 'epic' scenes. :D
