We're all at different places in our books. I'm curious to see what you're writing about when you hit a certain word count. For example:

- Just hit 26,130 and my main character is stalling because she's nervous about her wedding night (and I'm nervous about making this scene realistic...but not too detailed for Christian readers.) Anyhow, she's just struck up a conversation with her introvert husband and she touches a sensitive point that upsets him.

How about you? I thought this would be a good way for us fellow believers to keep up with what everyone is doing.

At 3948 words (I'm behind, I'm behind, I'm so far behind) my main character's little-person sister is knitting.... Yes, it's dull.... The main character's family has just been employed by a travelling dime museum (sideshow), and she's taking music lessons from one of the other acts, Professor Mechanico, true name David Silberstein. He's kind of a major character, he's invented the new technology that the Villain wants to steal, he's also the possible love interest, and I didn't discover until today that he's Jewish, which is a very big deal in 1870 when the story is set....

I think you've gotten a lot in less than 4000 words! Can't wait to see where you go from here.

So my NaNo is actually part of a series, with this one being the third in the series. It's about 4 kids who have special powers via the Holy Spirit that allow them to fight demons and stuff like that. Right now, I have about 4,000 words, and I am trying to develop the plot more, but basically, its about the Nephilim (demon-human cross breeds) coming out of hiding and into the open to re-awaken the Seven Deadly Sins (demons with unique powers and characteristics), who were defeated in my heroes in the previous book. As of RIGHT NOW, my main character Kelly (each book is from a different kid's perceptive) is arguing with the Holy Spirit about a necklace that used to belong to the Sin of Envy (also known as Olvera). This necklace, as we learn, was crafted by Lucifer himself, and allows the Seven Deadly Sins to have mortal bodies that house their spirit forms. The only way to stop the Nephilim from achieving this is by destroy (and locating) the Seven Objects so that they cannot form physical bodies. Kelly does not know this, and has been slowly twisted by the necklaces dark nature, so she is delusional about how it is affecting her.

trying to talk about sex with an introverted husband? schmologna, that sounds hilarious/tragic/interesting. i'd love to read that.

my novel is, so far, a bunch of random scenes and I have no place to put them. no idea. nano is ruining my character's snarky voice. =( >,< it hate it so much!

the scenes are about life in middle school and oddly enthusiastic radio djs.

Two of my leads just ran across a Christian protest against super-heroes (it is 2065) -- both of these characters are super-heroes. The male lead is a Christian and the female is not.

Well, mine is going pretty interesting. I'm learning bunches about my babies. Like I first thought that my main girl Celeste was an only child. I have now discovered that she has two brothers. Right now, I'm finally introducing the main villain! That's exciting. And I've also gotten around to introducing the main three to each other...well, cept for Caleb and Andreas. They technically haven't met though that's a little interesting to explain *giggles*

All in all, I have no idea how much more I have left!

I am at 14809 words and the main character just turned back to booze when his memories became too much (Don't worry he does stop drinking). He got the kid he is mentoring a job and is still hearing the voice of his dead father.

My MC has so far met a fairy, been chased by trolls and giants. Met Saint Aidan and Saint Alban and is hopefully about to meet Bonhoeffer if she would stop watching the empire state building being built and wondering if Dr Who is going to turn up.

8,519 (I'm behind, but that's what the weekend is for) - My MC has just had his first rehearsal with the choir and it didn't go so well. And one woman told him that she didn't want him to choose any of those "Jesus is my boyfriend" songs. Right now he's practicing his vocal warm-ups.

I'm loving my story so far - but it's moving kind of slowly and I'm ready for it to pick up. I'm dividing it up into months rather than chapters (December to the following December) and January is taking FOREVER because there's so much set up!

On a side note, doing my story that was has got me very confused as to what month it actually is in reality...

Just passed 12,000 and my MC (17 year old former CIA spook) is trying to figure out why she can't access all of the basement at her new boarding school (mystery!). FINALLY in the next chapter I'll get to the Jesus stuff :) She's going to go to chapel at her school and get very uncomfortable hearing about forgiveness (seeing as to how her parents were just killed...or were they?)

You guys are so great! I am really interested in your novels. I hope I see your names on the bookshelves at stores. I'll try to post again at around 30K but just in case you're wondering, Cora and her husband accomplish the "great work" and are now on to having other troubles.

I'm one quarter through [woot!] and am stuck on a moral dilemma. I made a post about it, so I hope to have some input! I shan't go into detail here as it's in that post [Urgent Christian moral dilemma / premarital naughtiness] but it's basically a decision between having the characters do the right thing [boring] or commit a sin [juicy and more tantalising to readers]

Obviously if they never do anything wrong they are dull and irritating, but what they are considering is a deliberate sin, they aren't doing it by accident on the spur of the moment, it's a cold, calculated decision on their part to get their own way, which won't work anyway. I am tending towards thinking the sin is the more interesting story, but that feels so wrooong!! And it's a Sunday that I have to write it!!! Please help!

What is there to repent of if there is no sin? To bring your story through the human drama of creation-fall-redemption, there needs to be a fall.

I passed 12,000 words yesterday, by God's grace (due to family events on Friday, I would have fallen behind if I hadn't written extra on a couple other days and yesterday). At this point in the novel, my female lead has just been kidnapped by the male lead, and is currently meeting the male lead's Christian sister. ^_^

Right now....

One of my supporting MC's apartment complex got blown up, and the MC and another supporting character just went to pick her up and get her into a safe environment. The MC is dealing with a few issues like jealousy and wanting to save his own life more than the life of his friend, and how he thinks that his behavior is pretty sour compared to the supporting character who went with him to help the friend out.

Well now that I've got a little more under my belt, the FMC has finally decided that she's going to try and get the MMC to smile...which led the what is now my excerpt. It's been great fun. I have also discovered that one of my characters is not what he seems, I'm just not sure how it will come out or when he will ever learn it. And I've finally introduced the villain! It's just really interesting letting things go at their own slow pace.

You're so right. They fell. And landed with a bump, with more bumps to come. But they'll get there in the end! Thanks!

Jerry, your story sounds interesting.
My FMC is distraught and fevered because the roses just revealed that her parents and sister died. And no, it's not some weird fortune-telling method. The roses are connected to a person's soul, so they change when someone dies.
My MMC, on the other hand, is getting interested in an fellow vilian, quickly forgetting his role in killing the FMC's family. Bad, bad, MMC!

Well my main character Ariel's band Skarmy Knife and The Attitude have been together for a few months now, they have written about 5 original songs and play every so often at their church.
Then at his work (he works at a travel desk at a backpackers) the lead singer for Cross Affiliation comes in to offer them a support slot on a show Cross Affiliation are putting on the following month. Ariel takes this opportunity and lets his band mates know.
His band mate Daniel rings him late and tells him about an emergency situation at his work (Daniel is a vet assistant), the following morning the situation had come right and Ariel rings the lead singer for Cross Affiliation to say yes, they will play the show with them.

KEWL!

I'm only at 6103 words (I took time out today to do things like go to Mass and cook lunch), I changed my MCs name from Catriona to Kerenza, and currently Kerenza is listening to conjoined twin brothers describe the hanging of a rogue elephant. (There really was a historical incident in which an elephant was hanged but it was in 1916 not 1870).
I have not introduced the Villain yet, but have introduced the Villain's agent, an eight-year-old thief named Josay (Jose), and discovered that the technology that the Villain will attempt to steal/obtain is an 'air telegraph', an early form of radio.

I'm nearing 15k, but things have taken another odd turn...

I took the advice of another writer and used post-its to plot out the different stops along the way from "once upon a time" to "happily ever after...maybe." I began at the beginning...and it wasn't working out right. Things weren't progressing and I had honestly spent much more time thinking about the middle and end scenes. In the interest of keeping going, I put in a page break and started up with the "turning point" scene that I knew by heart. Ever since finishing this nearly 5k word scene, I've been working forwards and backwards from that point in time. My reader will never know as the book does progress chronologically, but my writing definitely is not. It's causing a few problems as I wrote out six characters to clear out confusion, but I figure that's what the editing stage is for. :)

So, right now, I'm building up to the turning point scene where the second tragedy has happened (sorry, no clues yet) and my main characters are thrust into Awkwardsville...especially since, although neither person knows it yet, Ben is about to fall so hard for Karen that he'll do what he's been thinking about for months...to very revealing (although not necessarily romantic) results...

I know, infuriatingly vague, but I'm working in circles of time and don't want to give away the good parts yet...

When the Emperor of Austria was writing to his mother, the Empress Maria Teresa regarding his sister's "lack of relations" with her husband (that sister being Queen Marie Antoinette of France,) he told his mother he was confident that the "great work" between the bumbling King and Queen would be accomplished. So I'm afraid I stole that line from history.

I promised to note where I was in my story once I reached 30K but I was so absorbed that I have managed to get to 33,500 before commenting.

Ambrose had just left for several days to take his corn to be milled and Cora is left to fend for herself. She finds that she misses her husband...could she be falling in love with her troubled spouse?

Oh, i love a good story with a worldwide crisis!

Well, I've made it to 41K. Cora is just about to answer a letter from Ambrose's brother, Mathias, against her husband's wishes. She's upset because Ambrose never bothered to tell his first wife's family about her death (first wife was named Queenie.)

Also, it's HOG SLAUGHTERING TIME! Wooo hoooo! Cracklings and lard!

Oh! So many things are happening! I introduced the Archangel Metatron (didn't even think he'd be there). He had a creepy conversation with poor Caleb who is now officially terrified of Metatron. Andreas just gave into his emotions for the first time. IT scared him. He also heard some interesting things when he gave into his emotions and barged into the Chameber of the Council of the Archangels. Things are really starting to progress now!

Wow, I feel so unoriginal next to all of ya'll! All of your novels sound really interesting.

At just shy of 10,000 words (so, so behind), Jesus is dead. They just placed Him in the tomb Joseph provided and went to hide out for a bit. Barabbas was a part of all of it, but he just stomped out when John and Mary (the mother of Jesus) claimed that Christ was the Son of God. It'll probably be a good 10,000 more words before the three days are up and Christ is raised from the dead. Sigh. I want to get there!

Right now, I'm seriously considering reintroducing the other main character, get a little vengeance brewing. I might just write the scene and cut it out later; anything to help the word count! ;)
