Good morning, Wrimo writer 77, the thread that you are looking at is a challenge thread. Not for oh_the_wit to make into holiday gifts, more likely for poetT to fashion into some sort of garrote to assist her when she sneaks up on your wordcount and surpasses you in the wee hours when she is powerful and you are merely unconscious and drooling.

As an operative, you should attempt to write your challenges to your friends, loved ones, and strangers in spy speak, Mission Improbable genre clichés, and cold war russian overcoats. If you fail to complete this portion of the message, you will be ridiculed. Severe embarrassment may ensue. I'm sorry. If you can't follow directions, how are you going to achieve your objective?

Government research has shown that operatives who challenge someone else, or gasp, gang up on someone, will feel competitive rushes of words that just flow onto the page and boost you to ever widening gaps to your inferiors.* If your enemy is 500 words ahead of you, you might forgo that second spy sandwich and just opt for an apple. Operatives need plenty of fiber.

Should you or any of your so-called team be killed or captured in your attempt to surpass other operatives, we will disavow any knowledge of your actions, even your very existence. This message will self-fall to the second page in several days, if you don't use it. Good luck, Wrimos.

* of course no one is inferior. some messages just get carried away.

Aha, I finally made it to the safe house.
::looks around for other operatives::

I have some intel here I've uncoded, about the covert activities of
inkwet_image.

Can inkwet catch up and pass my word count by the end of the weekend?
I won't hang around to be caught though; she'll have to move fast.

I've been watching her for six days now. I don't think she has a clue.

::pT sneaks back out::

Hey, inkwet, after last night, I was at 7575, you 2250

But since then I've been up early, traveling to Croatia and back on a covert mission. You'll find out the results tonight (assuming you know where to look).

A good spy doesn't sleep.

Dr. Evil,

you always seem to be one step in front of me.
but my listening devices detect a weakness, a flaw in the machine that is you.
exploit it, I will. with ceiling cat as my witness.
your days are numbered.

well, all the days are numbered. yeah, whatever.

Agent Schreck, out.

I've been on the lookout for an enemy operative going to 75K; I'm pretty sure someone is headed to the same drop, just can't tell who

dr teamevil says he is. yeah, right. Him stopping at 70K is about as convincing as that Michael Jackson Halloween mask he puts on to disguise his interest in Schreck's numbers

If I can't find anyone, I may have to put together a team to beat Schreck to the Vatican to find the Monkey's Paw

because this spy ain't ready to come in from the cold

heheh
This is really agentT but I'm disguised as Scorpio to throw any rival spies off the trail. HQ assigned me to partner with Scorpio, though she's a dangerous backstabbing type and I'll have to be careful.

CHALLENGE TIME
Hey, Agent Schreck, we think we know what you're after. Sorry, we just can't let you seize the Monkey's Paw for evil. Good old agentT and I are pitting our combined word count against yours. We're betting we can make it to to first drop site (50K) before you!

Schreck: 38,850
Scorpio & T: 37240

We're right on your heels.

You have 10 minutes before a bomb will detonate to destroy all listening devices. 9:59, 9:58, 9:57...

::stops, confused; Wait, what? I didn't make that last post. It must be Scorpio posing as me posing as himself...And he's trying the "she" disguise--I'd been told Scorpio was male. Though I've never actually met him in person...I've avoided Scorpio, given his renown rogue tendency. Well, gotta make it work.::

::whispers to partner:: pssst. Hey, Scorpio. It may not be most covert behavior, to tell him we're going after him, is it? Well, okay, it's kinda hard to do a challenge without a touch of truth. And maybe it'll spook him into making mistakes.

Yeah, what Scorpio said. Interesting bit of data; the difference between my last two numbers: 2590; the difference between MOSchreck's: 2487. This just might work, if he's going to be that lazy.

And this morning I've been in touch with Israel, Germany, Norway, China, and England. Yeah. We can so do this.

We did it, Scorpio!

MO/S: 47774
agentT: 28047 + Scorpio: 22971 = 51018

The next few days will be rough running for me. I won't be available for as long a mission each day, because I have some responsibilities to carry out to maintain my cover. If I don't keep the factory putting out baubles, someone will suspect I'm not who I say I am.

So the question is, can we keep up with Schreck as he races to the 75k dead drop?

A member of the CIA has been watching you. Based on the information that's been gathered, so far, it would appear that inkwet has already accepted her impossible mission. And was then summarily trampled by a suburban buffalo. I sincerely hope she recovers. AgentT claims to have retired, taking it easy this year, but will most likely keep fighting that same old cold word war. Just as well, MO still needs a little push now and again regardless of whether or not the fourth wall has been torn down. Me, I think I'll target Y. My Intel (okay, it's actually AMD) tells me she's working on two projects for word domination. That just means she's twice as far behind me as she thinks she is. And despite her user name, I think she's French. The perfect adversary for someone who can occasionally talk in a British accent - just give me enough martinis. I'm edward, jmedward. Cue theme music.

Gee, and I thought Y was Japanese.

btw, you might send her a NaNoMail if she doesn't know you're challenging her in here. Poor Dr. teamevil didn't have a clue he was being called out. No wonder he was third in the list of those who crossed 50K...
---
I expect that bottle of invisible ink(wet) will get its words revealed soon enough. I'm watching her traces.

Meanwhile Scorpio and I are having to wait until the morning, it seems, to see if
Schreck is going to catch up from his -4602 dollars in the hole at the casino yesterday....

You're a rookie of a spy. You're so green a recruit. You really thought you had a chance of catching me on Day 14?
Of course, now it's a brand new day. Good luck to you and French organization...

---
Hmm. Schreck has gone deep. Has he really only written 48 words since Thursday morning? Not likely.
I would be nervous. But he doesn't make me nervous. He just makes me plan more...

Scorpio slipped out on me yesterday, too, though. I was sure he had made some progress on his part of the mission...

Schreck=52085
T 36233 + Scorpio 29036=65269

I think Schreck has some info that we just haven't seen. Scorpio too.

AgentT

Although you may have more experience, just remember you're only a short distance away and easily catchable.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I'm coming for you.

Your days are numbered.

agentT,

As we both know, there is a strong supply of Phlebotinum at the 50,000 word cash. Should you fail to reach this mark and remove the Phlembotinum before I do, the consequences could be...dire.

Let the games begin.

Isn't it so cute, to see those littlest spies gamboling about in the garden, pouncing on this chemical herring or that bud of destiny?

Sweet Fleur, earnest why boy Mankoi. I applaud your overachieving espionage efforts, when so many have already fallen by the wayside, led astray by attraction to schoolwork and social interaction and the interwebs. You are true to your separate causes.

It's too bad I'm going to have to crush you both. I have to charge on when 50 is oh so close. 45,654

But still, keep on your own tracks,
you honorable schoolboy, 40,301
you little drummer girl. 39,506

It will be interesting to see which of you reaches 50 first, after me.

Shcorpio? Hy don't know no Shcorpio. At least, not personally. Hy tink he's such a goot spy, though, don't you?

At any rate, Hy couldn't help but noteece that Agent Schreck has fallen behind dis Shcorpio and AgentT again. Hover nine tousand words behind? Dollink, you're pulling the joke. Dere's no way that hyu could bear to shtop at such lovely low numbers. Do hyuself a favor, Shveethot, and drop de palindromes. It en't fair to give dem under-overachievers false hope, da?

Dey arready got to zhe 75K. Hy tink Schreck had better geet a move on, palindromes or no. Eet's not to hyu reputation to look so far behind of dem, hokay?

Do svidanya, dollinks.

Scorpyo-yo,

you do know there are two of you, right?

but it's working.....I'm feeling more green than normal, I thought it was just my shirt, but it's more than that. Hulk smash!

the smart bombs are on the way, the radiation pills are hidden in your floor boards, the sounds you are hearing are the bugs that spy upon your progress.

you have already lost, señor, you just haven't felt that thousandth cut, just yet.

Agent Schreck, out.

Anti-Agent Madness here, challenging two of our very own! Agent Nai and Agent Darah! A race to the 35k line!

And for my own personal tracking, I've also challenged a friend that's NOT in this forum, but I need somewhere where I can see this daily:

I've been called out have I? The new agent given the chance to try her skills in the field. I accept your challenge! Now I must go interogate certain suspects.
