Alright, Rhinos. It's the end of Week One, and we are getting ready to go into dreaded Week Two. We are in a war with Fairfield County, and we have to show them who's boss. It's time for us to kick in into high gear, so I think tomorrow needs to be Double Your Daily Word Count Day.

What is "Double Your Daily Word Count Day", you ask? It's a new regional holiday that I've just invented. It's a day where you write at least double your average daily word count, and thus give yourself a hefty boost to prepare for week two.

It works like this: Whatever your end-of-day word count is tonight (Friday night), you divide that number by 6. The result is your average daily word count, and your goal on Saturday is to write twice that many words. If your average is less than 1,667, and you are behind, then I challenge you to get to a grand total of at least 13,336 words- that's where you should be by Sunday, so if you make it there by Saturday then you will be a full day ahead.

Use this thread to post your magic number, the number of words you'll be writing tomorrow. Then, when you finish writing those words, post again to let everyone know that you are victorious.

There are no prizes for winning this challenge other than a virtual high-five, because this is a shoe-string operation after all. But you will have bragging rights, and you will get that warm fuzzy "Yeah I totally won that challenge" feeling. And if you don't get that feeling, then just keep writing until you triple your daily word count. Or quadruple it.

Just going by my word count at the moment (25,059), my magic number for tomorrow 8353. (I've never written that much in a 24hr period in my life.) I don't see myself writing that much unless I stayed up all night from midnight on. And since I've been up since 630am this morning... that would put me at 36 or 42 hours without sleep.

Nah... I'll pass. I've written too much too fast to take on this challenge. I'll stick to slogging through at my current 4176.5 wpd pace.

Good luck to everyone who can do it though!

Well, let's see. Judging by the goal I hope to meet by tonight at midnight (about 75k) and dividing that by six... that would give by 25k to write tomorrow. O.O

I'll try. That's the best I can give you. I'll do my absolute best. I've never written more than 15k in one day, but we'll see how it goes!

Good luck, everyone!! :)

How about aiming for 6264.75 words? That's 1.5 times your average, and it get you past 30,000 words total! ALSO, you would be able to claim a Rally Merit Badge by writing more than 5,000 in a day, even if you don't have the physical merit badges on hand.

25k is only 1/3 of 75k! If you divide 75k by 6, your goal would only be 12.5k. Much easier than 25k!

Wait, I thought we were supposed to divide it by 6, and then double it to get our goal for the day? Did I misunderstand you or am I just really tired? Or both?

Yes, 12.5k would be MUCH easier than 25k! My goal anyway for tomorrow was about 15k, so if I do end up doing 20k, that will help me along a good bit. We'll see...

Have a great day! :)

Lauren

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I forgot to say in my post that I doubled it after dividing it by six. Sorry!

8374.

I don't know if I could do that even if I did totally neglect my daughter, which I would never, ever do. Not only that, but I have to clean house for an inspection by the owner tomorrow.

... I wonder if I could just do away with sleep completely.

Probably not, since I only sleep a couple hours a night anyway.

Well, I'll do my best. Still, I have to go at a decent pace because I plan to publish, and I don't want to spend months editing this thing to perfection. Otherwise, I'd be done by now.

I need to write about 8k. I've done it before. I'll do it again. Hopefully, this weekend's push will get me out of the novel's set up phase (which is turning out to be chick-lit-y and boring as all get out) and into the good stuff.

I'll give it a shot. I got a bit sick earlier in the week and missed 3 full days of writing, since I was too busy drinking various cough syrups and sleeping.

So my daily average is a paltry ~1560 words.

If I can hit 6000 words tomorrow, I'll be back almost back on track, and if I can manage 10000 over the weekend, I'll be right where I want to be.

So I'll try for 6000. Yep.

Edit: Writing since about 10, and my average is up to 1664 words (total of 11497+, probably close to 11600). If I can keep this streak going, I should easily hit my goal. Good times.

Edit: Quit writing about 5p. I got to 13249 words, so about 2000 short of my goal, but my wrists started to really ache, and I got thirsty. Oh well.

I think I'll still try to hit a total of 10000 for the weekend. It's fairly early on Sunday, and I have virtually no obligations for the next 12 hours or so.

Ugh. I've gotten so behind ever since I realized that I've missed some rather big elements that are kinda crucial to my story. I wasted a LOT of time trying to figure out how to fix it. I'm aiming to maybe triple my overall word count. I will do nothing but type, and maybe eat.

And since I get distracted at home, I'll probably head out somewhere to do this. Curse you, shiny objects! CURSE YOU!!

I would have to write over 6,000 to double my average, and I don't think I can swing it. I'll keep aiming for what is my average (which is actually about 2x the required minimum), but I think I'm probably going to slow down a little bit from my current pace. Honestly, I haven't the foggiest as to how I've written 10k just since I switch stories. It boggles the mind! And I haven't even started the smut! (Erm, ignore that.)

Ha, ok so that would mean I have to write 6,360 tomorrow. That's not bad, I did that yesterday. But then yesterday I didn't have a 3 month old I have to watch all day. Aww who cares, her and my son take naps. And I can hand write some of it.

Oh, bring on the challange. I am doing it!

I'm about 200 shy of my 2,000 a day personal goal for tonight, so I'm going to attempt to make up that difference, and double the two thousand tomorrow. Which means that my goal for tomorrow is 4,200.

Easy peasy. Tomorrow's a Saturday and life is my oyster. :)

However, it's also my anniversary. If my husband decides to sweep me away, I can assure everyone that the word count goal will become drastically less important.

Sheila Lee -

I have a LOT of time to devote to writing at the moment, and I'm used to it (this is my third full-length novel), so I'm familiar with the novel-writing process. Writing is my number one interest and I plan for it to be a full-time career when I'm out of school. Also, I made an extensive outline before beginning. I honestly didn't know what my limit would be until I started, though - this is my first time.

Plus, I've set a ridiculous word count goal for myself, and so I'm basically giving myself a butt-kicking every day to try and keep on track towards that goal. I write during my breaks between classes and as soon as I get home. Oh, and I'm just in school, I don't work or anything (for a job).

And just so you know, I don't write at this speed outside of NaNo. I broke my lifetime personal best last Sunday, but I'm going to try to break that tomorrow for the challenge. I don't know if I can do it - I've never written 25k in a day - but I'll try!

Oh, and thank you! :) I see you're also ahead! Congratulations!!

Have a great day, and good luck!!

Lauren

EDIT: Oh, and I take frequent breaks. Like, everyone 100 or 200 words I stop for a little bit. If I write 100 words every six minutes, that adds up to 1000k in an hour, so I just write 100 words, stop for second, and keep going.

All right. My goal is to write 11552 words tomorrow. However, since that is only about 3000-ish words from 50,000, I'm going to go ahead and try to hit 50k.

4,858 would be my goal if I participate in the challenge.

I don't know if I'll get any writing time tomorrow that is one of the reasons I pushed myself so much yesterday, when J is home it is harder to find time to write (you would think it would be opposite right ?!)

Are we going to the same wedding? I have wedding duties that kept me from writing tonight and will keep me from tomorrow night. But I have enough days off to catch up. I am proud that I am keeping up this year a lot better than i did last year. last year i made it to 4k this year i have doubled that staying with the daily count. Yay me!!
