Note: One space available! If you didn't get a password confirmation and the key code for the building in an email or PM, you're not on my list. If you think you should be on the list, please contact me ASAP.
From 7 pm on Friday, November 13th until 7 am on Saturday, we will write! We’ll also snack, socialize a little, and play a game or two. The 12-hour lockdown is a great way to boost your word count.
Please:
- Be a registered NaNoWriMo participant
- Be actively working on a novel
- Be 18 or older – this is required by the Writers League insurance company
- Plan to stay the whole twelve hours – that’s why it’s called a lockdown!
- RSVP to receive the secret password.
Space is limited
RSVP is first-come, first-served. Once we’re full, we’re full. After that, I’ll start a waiting list. RSVP either to my NaNoMail, or to the gmail.com address I use for NaNoWriMo – lazymle. If you RSVP and then can’t make it, please let me know so someone else can take your place. Please don’t show up without the password!
What you’ll need to bring/do:
- Bring potluck snacks to share during the long long night
- Wear comfortable clothes, and bring a sweater in case it gets chilly
- If you think you’ll need a nap, bring a pillow/blankie
- Bring headphones – please make sure the sound doesn't bleed through
- Arrive by 7 pm if possible. We’ll post the phone number at the door for emergency late arrivals.
No drugs or alcohol allowed.
What we’ll provide
- Liquids – sodas, water, tea, and coffee, ice (there is also a soda machine in the building)
- Extension cords and surge protectors (though it wouldn’t hurt to bring one if you have it)
- Tables and chairs and one small couch
- Access to the internet for folks who just can’t write without it
- Access to the Writers League library
Where it is
Writers League of Texas, 611 S Congress Ave # 130, Austin, TX 78704
This is a tall office building a bit off the street on the east side of Congress. It is just south of Riverside. There is ample parking in the rear.

Did you host a lockdown last year? This is my first Nano, so I really don't know what to expect. Though I'm always down for a good pajama jammy jam, and may just go as it sounds like fun times. Albeit fun productive literary times (with a side of footy pajamas).

Yes - this will be - um - our fourth lockdown, and our second at the writer's league. Basically, we arrive at seven pm, drop off whatever potluck thing we've brought, pick a spot (usually at a table), get plugged in, and start writing. There's occasional chatter.
We'll have a chart where you can write your starting word count and then update it hourly. Last year, about half of us played "Apples to Apples" a couple of times - just to have a break. Mostly - we just write. And as the night wears on, the giggling increases.

Okey dokey!
Looks like we are full for Friday.
If you think you've RSVP'd but you don't have the password, there's a glitch. Mostly, folks, it's that I'm awaiting verification that you're eighteen, or someone else RSVP'd for you. I need to hear from you directly that you are coming. I don't want to hold a place for a phantom when someone else would like to come.
If you know the password and realize you can't make it, please let me know so I can open up the space to someone else!
I'm starting a wait list as of NOW. If you want to be on the wait list, please make sure I have a real email address for you, your NaNo user name, and verification that you are 18 or over.
Also, I could use a couple of helpers to arrive between 6 and 6:30 to help me set up the room. Thankee.

Some of y'all are asking what to bring - and it can be whatever you like.
Besides the liquids I mentioned in the original post, I'm going to bring some fruit juice, and probably a small bowl of fruit. And some nuts.
If people want to put here what they are bringing, that's great. If not, it will be a surprise!

I MIGHT be bringing sushi. I'm supposed to make it for one of my online foodie groups but I don't know if I'll be able to get it done before Friday eve. Either way I'll bring something yummy.
----------No one told me there would be *work* involved.

Not sure yet what I'm bringing - I might make some kind of mini muffins, but it depends how much time I have after work. Otherwise it'll be a stop at the store on the way down (and I'll check what's posted here to try not to duplicate!).

huxcanux is bringing a large pepperoni pizza. And gpanza is bringing whatever I recommended in an email. Unfortunately, I don't remember what that was. Either she'll post here or we'll be surprised. Actually, I think it might have been milk and cookies.
Also - I either emailed or PMed everyone this morning with a few notes:
They shut off the air conditioning in the building in the wee hours, so it can get a little chilly in there. You might want to bring a sweater or something.
They lock the outer doors to the building at 6 pm. I'll be monitoring the doors from about 6:45 to maybe 7:30. I provided the back door key code in my email/PM, just in case you need it.

Two people have cancelled now, so we have two spaces - if folks contact me soon. I live nearly an hour outside Austin, so I'll be leaving my house around 5 to get to the WLT and get the room set up. I may not be online again until after 7 pm.
gpanza, we are currently expecting about 23 people, though not everyone may want milk - just bring - oh, some. My preference is 2% or even non-fat. But you should bring what YOU like!

We WERE doing it right then! And we are doing it right now!
----------The room is full of people and all of them are typing. It's eerie. And wonderful.
A strange seriousnes pervades the room. That's kinda eerie, too.
I can't believe all the words that are being written.
We wish you were here!
