But I do have 8887 so far on Day 6. This is good. What can one do when one falls behind? Change your subject. I find that if I switc from memoir to poetry I can get a nice poem written. About the time I finish that, I have more in my reservoir about my main topic. And the next time I switch, it is to an entirely completely different story that is being made up as I write it. I have no idea where it is going until it takes me there. And when I hit that wall, then I'm back on track with my main topic. Works for me. Especially if I don't have to go to a Baby Shower or out to lunch with a client or to hear TC Boyle discuss his latest book.

Suggestion:
Take the 1,455 words you are currently behind and divide that by the number of days remaining in November and then add THAT number to the minimum you need to stay on track: 1,667 words a day. Here, I figured it out for you: Add an additional 61 words a day to your 1,667 words a day to keep current -- that gives you a bare minimum of 1,728 words a day for the remainder of the month to stay current.
Just for whatever it's worth: I would trying to do an additional 100 words a day to give you some substantial wiggle room for the future rest of the month. . . .
Best of luck to you.

Herein lies the power of fiction -- You know the magic is there when your main character wakes up one day and takes that first faltering and raspy breath on her own and then announces that she has a much better idea than you did. -- JeH

Eh. I decided on Day 3 that my idea wasn't going to fly and scrapped the whole thing. So I'm starting over from scratch. Probably won't start writing till tomorrow, maybe Sunday. Still expect to finish on time. 1455 words behind looks good to me1

Here's the deal: think about how many words you say during the day. Or at least CAN say. How many words can you say in three hours? How many words can you read during the day? Hear on tv or being sung? It's really not a big deal. It's doable. Don't be intimidated.

You can do it. Doesn't matter how many words you are behind yet. It's how close you are by the 25th.

Hi, just cruising around the forums for a moment...I saw your post and thought, this must be my age-group if there's somebody here saying "yikes". I'm 48, so I guess it would have to be honorary status. I just got comfortably ahead as of last night, so...here I am cruising around the forums!

You are a lot smarter than I - here I am cruising the forums when I am very, very uncomfortably behind as of right now. Doubling my production won't get me to 10,000 words.
I was a late starter (on the 12th) - thinking that it was better to start, than to regret it for yet another year. (I haven't been reminded of NaNoWriMo until February or March in previous years.)
But I have yet to write 1,667 words in any single day. (And neither do I have a banner.)
Perhaps I should just import my forum output into my novel?
Hmmm ...

Life seems to get in the way. I was 8,000 words behind yesterday. After ten hours of pounding away, got caught up. Somewhat cross-eyed at the end of it all, but back on track. I put a sticky note above my desk: Park it, and write it.
----------John Grisham once said he was thinking about giving up writing as it was "too easy." I'd bet 99.9% of all writers wanted to bitch-slap him at that point.
