I always find it easier to write when I sit down and say "I want to make /this/ before I stop", or "This is what I want to accomplish today".

So how about a whole weekend?

I'll give myself a range. 25k at minimum, 30k at an optimistic maximum.

How about you guys?

It'd be nice to catch up, but I'd settle for an even 10,000. That's only . . . 7,875 words away.

Second week doldrums, why have you come when I only have a first week word count? I want my shiny new optimism back!

I don't know how you do 25K in a weekend, or even 10K in one day. I'm impressed. I can only sit down and churn out so many 1K blocks every day. I am going to give myself the non-stretch goal of keeping up with the daily average wordcount, since my kid is home from school all day every day. Good luck all, no matter how big or small your goal.

I will be happy if I keep my 2000 words per day goal each day of the weekend, which would put me at 16K by Sunday night. BUT I had such a good morning of writing today that I almost caught up to my schedule. With any luck I will have another stellar day tomorrow, so my stretch goal is to get to 18K.

vanillagrrl, the only thing that helps me maximize my word count is to keep writing no matter what comes out. Sometimes it is utter garbage, but sometimes it is surprisingly good. That's what happened this morning and helped my catch up a bit. I just stopped judging each scene, each sentence, each word, and I wound up with a more interesting supporting cast than I thought I had, and a broader impact for my story. And, 2300 words! It took me 3 hours today ,though, because I was taking my time. You may not have that time, and I often don't have it, either. It's best when you don't stop. I allowed myself to wallow in the good parts occasionally, which was my Saturday treat to myself.

In the next twenty minutes, I'd like to get to 8000. Then I'd only be 5000 words away from the daily goal. XD

It is definitely going better than I've expected, though. I actually do have something to write about! My story's barely started. :)

I've been doing it hundred-word increments. 100 words isn't that much. A paragraph of description. A couple of lines of dialogue. It all adds up pretty quickly. And after being bound with essay writing and word limits, it's nice to spew out my guts and make no sense and type with bad grammar and literally type blinded--as in not even reading what I've wrote.
