...and get me to just persevere and get caught up! I'm serious! Please be mean... I'm so close to getting on task, but it's getting progressively harder the closer I get...

We're only one week in and you're already behind? What are you thinking? What happens if you get sick or take time off for family at Thanksgiving? Do you want to lose because you couldn't pick up the pace a little? Two or three 3000 word days aren't going to kill you. They may involve killing one of your characters to get the word count up, but that's up to you to decide.

If you really want something to get you going, check out Write or Die on Kamikaze mode- if you lag too long, it will eat your words. http://writeordie.drwicked.com/

Now log off the internet (seriously, shut your browser, your IM, your email, everything, off) start some music to cover any noises around you (I like Gerschwin or jazz), get out your notes, open up your favorite word processor (WoD would be an acceptable exception to the "turn off the internet" command- but nothing else should be allowed) and get to typing. It doesn't matter if all you type is drivel, but try to have fun with it.

If' it's already a chore to write, kill your plot and start a new one. Looking at your novel excerpt, take the mental break to write the "behind the scenes" documentary video scene- have you MC take a header into a service cart with someone's birthday cake on it (bonus points if it's her crush, double bonus points if your MC is allergic to something in the cake and has a nasty rash that shuts down shooting until her face clears). It doesn't have to end up in the final novel, but I will admit that most of my favorite romances have a middle where everything goes horribly, hilariously wrong before the MC hooks up with their crush.

If you've got some fun bits plotted out and some not-so-fun bits are slowing you down, leave them alone, get some momentum going on the fun bits, and then come back to the slow parts.

But whatever else you do, get off the forums and get back to work!

Okay, Liz. I'm coming off a week of being sick and right now my word count is worse than yours so here it is -- the communal flogging:
C'MON YOU! GET YOUR LAZY BUM BACK AT THAT COMPUTER AND START TYPING! DROP THOSE FINGERS AND GIVE ME FIFTY! OKAY, NOW ANOTHER FIFTY!
....and so on until you hit 15,000.
Feel better now?

Wait, did I miss the yelling? Can I scream instead? I like screaming.

Hey, you! Ninja Rose? More like Clumsy Rose. Your word count hasn't even got up to yesterday's total, much less today's. Quit reading this post, and write, write, write!

Are you still reading this? Shame, shame, deep shame on the NInja Rose. You'll have to wait to punish yourself until you've written at least what, 1000 more words? Make that 2000.

DUDE, YOU BETTER KEEP WRITING OR YOU'LL NEVER BREAK FREE OF THE SCRIMMAGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GRAPH AND THE ELEPHANTS WILL TRAMPLE YOU AND THE MONKEYS WILL EAT YOUR GUTS AND YOU'LL BE THE LAUGHINGSTOCK OF THE ENTIRE KC AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND WE WILL NEVER LET YOU FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/yelling]

...That was way too fun.

Go Lizabeth! Don't look back! Write like you've got a bomb behind you!

If all else fails, you can always pull the good old phrase:

"And now for something completely different . . ."

I wonder if NaNoWriMo Syndrome is a disease you can claim medical coverage for? I need surgery now to repair my dying fingers.

Way to go, Lizabeth Rose! wooot!

::takes a moment to be motherly::
Of course, be sure you don't live the entire month sleep deprived. Get some rest. If you haven't got your health, then you haven't got anything, as Count Rugen would say.

Keep on writing!
