When typing the phrase 'second-in-command', as in, "I've lost my second in command," should 'second' be capitalized? I know that when referring to someone by a title, as in 'Second Silvani,' the Second should be capitalized, but I'm not certain of the other. |

In this case, no, it should not be capitalized, but it should be hyphenated (unless you're doing that deliberately to get more words).
