It's traditional to get together for one last, long, until-midnight write-in on November 30 to cheer each other over the finish line. I propose we do this at IHOP (1675 28th Street), since it's open 24-hours and has hosted this madness before. (I still remember, and may still have pictures, of SlyCrow bringing the Big Blue Pencil to the IHOP and posing as the NaNoWriMo Marathon Man. The restaurant staff were bemused, but amused.)

Suggested starting time: 6:00 PM, with option to start earlier if anyone wants to show up. First one there, put something identifyingly NaNoWriMo on the table, like one of the flyers or table tents you can download and print out.

It will be very useful to use this thread to find out who in fact plans on being the first one at IHOP.

Also, mostly because I am a very badly behaved ML who cannot bring herself to sacrifice watching her team play on Monday Night Football, I will be hosting a Final Push Auxiliary for Football Fans And Wrimos-Who-Drink just around the corner at Harpo's (29th and Arapahoe). The game starts at 6:30 and generally ends by 9:30 or 10, by which time any of us football-fan and/or drinking wrimos will make our way over to IHOP to join the main Wrimo contingent.

In case IHOP's wi-fi fails us at the last minute (it did, one memorable year), Harpo's is a useful back-up. It should be open past midnight, being a bar-type of place, but I've never seen them card at the door, so it should remain all-ages. (I will make inquiries and report back to confirm or deny their late-night all-ages status.) I've only seen its wi-fi fail once, and that was in a snowstorm. I can generally find a place to plug my powerstrip in there, too. Another option is the Baker Street Pub just a titch north of the 28th and Canyon. Again, reliable wi-fi and plentiful plugs at the 6-top booths.

This thread will make a useful place for reporting on the wi-fi situation on the evening of the 30th. Keep an eye on it in case of unexpected situations.

All right! Let's make some plans.

Sounds fun. I have that day off work, so I might start off early at IHOP, head to Harpo's even though I am not a football fan, and then back to IHOP depending on how much sleep I think at the time I will need to get to work by 7:45 AM on December first :/

Also, I have been slacking off and now must write 2714 words per day or so to finish. Chances are I might spend all day the 30th at the IHOP. I'll let everyone know if that's the case, and bring my "novelist at work" table tent with me.

Hi Jessie!

It'll be great to see you tonight. I don't know whether I'll make it to IHOP early, since I've got some afternoon things to take care of, but for sure I'll be at Harpo's by 6:30 if not sooner.

I still need to do about 2340 today. I hope to get a chunk of it done while the laundry is running this afternoon. After that, I'm thinking word sprints timed by football game quarters...

I will be at the IHOP but I will post my semifinal word count before I leave. I want to have at least the 50,000 words done before head over there just in case the wi-fi doesn't work.

That's wise - there was that one year when the IHOP let us down on Nov 30.

The wi-fi at Harpos is good! I am there now. I'm in the back room watching the Monday Night Countdown.

I am wearing my "Time to Write" NaNoWriMo shirt (on a field sienna*, an hourglass triumphant atop a book gules) and my New Orleans Saints scarf (on a field or, two fleur-de-lis sable). I have let both hostess and waitstaff know that "if anyone asks for the 'writing group,' I'm it." There are also a couple of Saints fans back among the pinball tables; expect a few shouts of "WHO DAT?" when touchdowns happen.

*Yes, I know sienna isn't a color used in heraldry. Too bad. It's used on my shirt. Or maybe it's olive, I dunno.

I'm holding onto my menu for when Jessie and anyone else joins me. I'm contemplating a pitcher of Avery White Rascal. I very much hope I will not actually have to drink the whole thing myself. If I do, I will be very entertaining when I get to the IHOP around 10.

All right! Time to start envisioning - and writing - my novel's final scenes. To the tune of ESPN HD.

Afterthought: Apparently sliders are a dollar each during Monday Night Football. This is worth knowing.

I'll either meet you guys at Harpos or just head on over to Ihop. We'll have to see.

Alright, vortexae. I'm going to stop by the longmont party because I said I would, and then head to Harpo's to meet you because those 1 dollar sliders sound awesome. I am not sure what pitcher you ordered, but if it looks yummy when I get there I will help you with it... Woooo :)

Yay! My evil tempting ways have prevailed! I did see that you were going to Longmont, so I was resigned to tasty drunkenness. It will be great to see you!

Stephanie (Doal) is here already with her notebook of doom, ready to clock her last 3000 words to goal. We are off and running!

Well I'm at the IHOP, apparently the first--so far only one--here. Everyone else must be at Harpos, but I'm not into the bar scene, or football so I'll hang out here for a couple of hours and see if anyone shows up. I'm on a Mac laptop with jeans and an ivory colored 'walk for the earth' tshirt in a corner you can't see from the door.

There's just two of us at Harpo's so far, no worries. I think we're all just a bit early all around.

Sounds like the wi-fi at IHOP is functioning correctly too!

It's a small group (me) at IHOP now, and I'm sitting in the back corner of the room at a two-top. No idea if there's any plugin nearby or not, but there are a lot of people here with laptops, so don't just look for that if you end up here.

Steve, have you and m_barnette_author found each other yet?

If you're where I think you are, (way back by the kitchen, to the right from the vantage point of someone walking in the door?) you can plug into the ceiling.

Nope. When I came in the door and looked around for her, I was told that the other novelling group people had already left, since nobody else had shown up. So it really does seem like it's just me.

We'll be by soon - the game's just over. Saints won, 38 to 17.

Congratulations, vortexae, on winning NaNoWriMo again! And on the Saints win as well. FYI: Jessie just left here and she planned on going directly home. I think she had told you she was dropping by Harpo's or IHOP.
