The Battle of the Elsewheres in the Rockies - BC vs. Alberta (Update: 11/30/2007)

After a brief discussion with the Alberta::Elsewhere ML, we've decided that it's time for a bit of friendly rivalry between the two rival provinces. Nothing dirty or cheap, just a bit of fun to keep the words flowing throughout the month.

As Aquadeo, the ML for Alberta::Elsewhere, described it: it's a contest for the next thirty rounds and shall determine the Championship of the West!

We outnumber them, guys, so let's make our numbers count. They've got some amazing writers over there so let's make sure that we don't fall behind and keep it going until December 1 @ midnight.

The rules are simple -- when the bell rings, start writing! The winner will be chosen through two statistics: the highest percentage of writers which surpass 50,000 words, and the largest average wordcount per writer. The respective liaisons will provide weekly updates, but the show's not over until the calendar says December.

Competition starts on November 1st, right at midnight. I'll make sure that there's a chat set up for our BC region so that we can confer, bounce ideas off of one another, and get our word count up!

So, if you're up to meeting the competition, toddle on over to the Alberta::Elsewhere forums, give 'em a friendly hi-five, and let's keep it clean, people! No Alberta jokes. :P

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

UPDATED 11/30/2007

# Average wordcount (affiliated) = 10172.40
# Average wordcount (BC-Elsewhere) = 14670.60
# Average wordcount (active) = 23609.42
# Average wordcount (active BC-Elsewhere) = 40285.92

# Average wordcount (affiliated) = 13321.92
# Average wordcount (Alberta-Elsewhere) = 23763.42
# Average wordcount (active) = 24199.45
# Average wordcount (active Alberta-Elsewhere) = 51720.39

Okay guys, we need to keep up to date on updating word counts on the site, otherwise Denton and his Wrimosaurs are going to continue to keep kicking us around! We can't have that, can we? I sure can't. The shaaaaaame.

Let's do this, BC Wrimos!
Nanowrimo Kootenay Cruise!

I brought these over from the other post:

Here's the ferry schedule:

From Balfour, the ferry leaves at: 6:30 a.m., 8:10 a.m., 9:50 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:10 p.m., 2:50 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6:10 p.m., 7:50 p.m., 9:40 p.m.

From Kootenay Bay, the ferry leaves at: 7:10 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:40 a.m., 12:20 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:40 p.m., 5:20 p.m., 7 p.m., 8:40 p.m., 10:20 p.m.

Bring printed highlights of your novel, or the whole thing as you prefer.
*With whatever carpooling arrangements, meet and get on the ferry at Balfour, I think it is (we'll need to check schedule for when)
*Even if it's the little ferry, we can squish in together somewhere and read each other's work
*Meet Katero at Crawford Bay and escort her back, visiting and reading each other's work (it's tough to read with visiting going on and there will be plenty of time for it as we soak our bones)
*soak away at Ainsworth, probably having something to eat at the restaurant later (I'm always hungry when I come out of there!)

So, are we looking at 11:30 to meet at Balfour or 1:10? 11:30 gets a little tricky for us church people, but exception can be made if 1:10 seems like it's a little late to get rolling. I think it's going to be a hoot to go on the ferry just to go on the ferry.

Regarding LangsVSAinsworth restaurant, there isn't very much of a difference cost-wise, (with a family of 5, A&W costs the same as Gabriels) it just depends on how much you order. So really it's a matter of preference. I think I remember Lang's having seating that can't be changed around, and we'd have a hard time sitting together. I've really enjoyed the camaraderie of this group, so I'm in favour of dinner at Ainsworth. Close, convenient, and tables big enough for all.

That however is just one vote, so by all means cast your own!

Because sifting through 3 pages sucks. ;)

So, plan for this weekend: write-in tomorrow, write-in Sunday. Monday has nothing planned thus far but we could potentially do one anyway, considering it's a long weekend! I know that I have a lot of words to catch up on, that's for sure. ;)

Also, I posted information about a Midway party for next Friday @ 7PM. It's a potlache so check the details in the event calendar!

Anything else that I may be missing, as far as planning stuff is concerned? Hmmm...

Well, we've got a victory thread for those of us who have crossed the finish line, but what about the rest of us who are struggling? And consequently want to beat their novels over the head with a rubber trout? Or a stick? Or a Fender guitar?

Prince George and area

Greetings one and all!

I enjoyed the trials and tribulations (and successes) of NaNoWriMo last year that I decided to go again this year! Last year I was travelling, but now I am home and looking for some fellow Prince George writers to perhaps get together with to share stories and keep up on how we are doing through the month of November!

I will be checking back here when I remember and will also keep an email subscription to this page in case anyone replies!

Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you, if you are here!
----------
If the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off"

Week Three!

How did week three go for everyone? Me? I actually had days where I did no writing... which was odd. I'm still struggling a bit but all of the support and writing mojo that's being shared in this forum is so inspiring.

What about you?
What's your profession/major?

Just wondering what it is that everyone does or is studying, since I know lots of us writers are college/university students or professionals. For those of you that are not easily categorized, tell us more!

Okay, I'll start the ball rolling!

For those of you that read the "Greetings" post, you know I'm a software developer. I didn't have a major in college because I took a diploma. I am, however, going back to school next year getting a degree in Computer Sciences with some sort of major (hopefully) in Multimedia.

What about you?

Cheers,
Week Two Check In!

So, whose brains have finally walked out of their heads from lack of sleep and overdose of novel madness?

I'm pretty sure that mine have. But week two was fairly atypical of what week two usually is. I felt overwhelmed, underslept, and overtired; also fairly certain that my characters were plotting against me for reasons that are currently unknown.

Tell me about your trials, tribulations, and successes of Week Two!
On the topic of creativity inspiring creativity in Kamloops

I hope you'll indulge me while I engage in a little bit of promotion. This weekend, Kamloops area residents have the opportunity to see what other creatives have been doing with their time in November by dropping in on an artisans' open house in Juniper Ridge. Among the participating artisans will be my sister, Daphne Sayler-Hust, a brilliant lampwork (glass jewellery) artist, along with many others displaying their beautiful products (including Kamloops' own Amanda Barker of Ovio Organico). Visit http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=14377&l=df8c2&id=559190263 for photos of Daphne's lampwork jewellery, and experience Christmas shopping that is both refreshing and inspiring at:

CHRSTMAS ON THE RIDGE

Friday, Nov. 16th - 5 - 8

Saturday, Nov. 17th 10 - 4

Location: 2808 Capilano Drive (Juniper Ridge in Kamloops)

Mulled cider and catered refreshments will be served as you shop in this show-home setting overlooking the Thompson River. Come and support your local entrepreneurs and if you yourself cannot attend, consider passing along this invite to someone else who might enjoy.

Thank-you and Merry Christmas!

----------
