Incoherent Feet
an excerpt

“You’re nuts!” said Jason “why don’t you just let me go and we can forget this ever happened.”
“You’re right, I am nuts. In fact I’m a louse, a philanderer just like yourself, and slightly bi polar if the truth were to be said. Tell you what, I’m also a father. That last one I haven’t perfected which is probably why most of my kids pretend I don’t exist. Thing is jason, you seem to think I’ve done something wrong here. You’re the one who somehow, and it may just be God’s little joke on me, managed to sniff out not one but two of my progeny and screw with their lives. What exactly do you expect ‘we’ to forget about that matter?”
Jason’s head was pounding and he wondered how long he’d been out. The old man had clubbed him good alright.
“Okay, I’m a jerk, what do you want man?”
“what do I want?” King yelped “I want myu daughter off drugs, my grandbaby to be healthy, even if its yours, and I want you to stay out of Dolls life. Why didn’t you just divorce her? Why you wait all this time and then start messing with her now?”
“She cleaned me out, she took every cent we had and didn’t even give me a chance to explain.” Jason protested.
“Explain what? Why she wasn’t invited to your threesomes? At least her Ma knew when I was out. She never came home and found me he’n and she’n in her own house.”
“How do you know all this? How did you find me?”
“That Elaine is a real gem, Jason. You should have stuck around.”
Jason didn’t answer.
“You got nothing to say huh?”
“Man I feel kinda sick” Jason said “you think you game me a concussion?”
“Oh please, don’t be a whiner”King called to the back of the RV “it adds to my annoyance with you.”
Jason was wiggling his wrists, something seemed to be loosening. He hoped this guy had bought some bad duct tape.
“Jason, maybe you should just take a little nap again and I’ll keep driving.”
Jason felt one hand pulling free but he kept his position on the bed. Now King was fiddling with the radio and muttering to himself. Jason wasn’t hearing anything the man was saying.
Suddenly the RV swerved and King let out a vulgar oath. Jason felt the machine pull ontop gravel and come to a stop. He relaxed his body and waited. King charged back to the bed and reached for Jason who suddenly swung at the man’s head with all his might. The sound of his knuckle breaking was sick. He howled in pain and King grabbed at he hand and pushed it down to the bed.
“You never hear of a rear view mirror Dumbass?” King asked him. “That f-ing hurt didn’t it.”
Jason was writhing and King held his arm down. “Let go, let go, it hurts!”
“Well who’s goddamned fault is that Jason? You see who caused your problem there?” King was mighty annoyed.”Settle down and let me see what you did. You never punch a man in hius skull with your fist.”
Jason tried to relax but it hurt. It hurt a lot. King pulled gently on the fingers and assessed the damage. Now jason could do nothing but whimper.
“These fractures, they can heal funny but I can set it.” He said and pulled a towel out of a drawer. “Good thing I still have some of this tape left.”
”Please! Don’t do that, I need a doctor, hasn’t this gone far enough?”
“Jason you confound me with your levels of stupid. We got a vacation planned. Why would I want to take you to a doctor? You ain’t dying, I already told you I wasn;t gonna kill you either but maybe I should just put you out of your misery.” King saw the horror in Jason’s eyes and added “just kidding.”
Jason writhed as King wrapped his hand carefully. “You got any booze in here?” he asked.
“I got a bottle in the cupboard” Jason offered.
King found the bottle, took a big swig, grimaced and then lifted Jason up so he could drink when King put the bottle to his lips. Jason sipped a little and then King laid him back down.
“Don’t know what my girls see in you.”
Jason turned on his side with one broken paw was defeated. King returned to the front of the motorhome and they continued the trip. The shadows were growing longer and Jason hadn’t had anything to eat. The alcohol hit him rather quickly and he started to sob like a little kid. Also like a little kid the tears put him to sleep and they rolled on with King singing to the radio and Jason snoring, sometimes moaning, in the back.
