Excerpt: Maze

Prologue
When I was little, I made up a world. I bet you’re saying: “Well most little kids make a world of their own”. No that’s not what I mean. I mean a whole world that I truly believed in. I wrote little stories, I drew pictures of people and animals, even made good and evil. I was so into it that I deeply scared my parents.
I called it Maze. It was a cross between medieval fantasy and the supernatural. There were things that scared me but it was my world. Nothing could hurt me! I told everyone about Maze. Gave in depth descriptions of scenery and places. But of course, who would believe a five year old?
Eventually my parents took me to see a psychiatrist. I was seven years old and I was still believing in Maze. I was determined to make everyone believe my fantasy but it just gave into worry. From there on the weekly meetings made me forget about my world. It made me focus on the reality of my world. I became normal.
So, I went through my life, leaving Maze in the dust of imagination. I became a rather tall lanky kid and became rather popular in my Jr. High years. And as I became more aware of my popularity and my grades and of course girls, Maze became more distant and more fiction. Now, a beginning tenth grader with awesome sports skills I have left Maze so far behind I really have forgotten it.
But lately, I’ve been having weird dreams and I’ve been seeing weird things. I think something is after me or someone. Then today I found this book with my name on it. Xander Stone. In little five year old writing. I suddenly remembered Maze. And I don’t think it’s going to be a good thing.
